Possibly the WORST eating experience I have EVER had ! We booked a christmas party meal here well in advance. The menu looked very nice offering a choice including Venison and Beef Wellington. The food was pre -ordered a week or so in advance as required and the place boasts a Michelin star chef. So the party of 12 arrived, hardly a coach load and we decided to have a drink at the bar first. This should have been the first warning sign, the barmaid appeared to be having a bit of a do with another member of staff and was clearly not in the mood to work as she was constantly swearing under her breath. An attempt to make a drinks order led to us being told 1) There was no coke. 2) There was no slimline tonic 3) There was no ice. Not quite being able to beleive a bar would not have these available at 8pm we selected for some alternatives and had a chat between the group for 10 minutes or so before being ushered upstairs to our table. The table had been decorated quite nicely though we did have a jovial remark at the fact that there was only 3 settings with napkins and all of the knives and forks had been placed the wrong way round though this was amusing rather than an issue. 10 minutes later the starters arrived, mainly prawn cocktails or pate with bread rolls, though no butter to put on them was to be seen. One of the party then handed her bread roll around to the rest of us to show just how HARD it was, it was like a brick. We asked the waitress for a fresh one which she replaced and apologised very politely. Fifty minutes later, we had to find a member of staff to ask if they would like to come and take the plates away and possibly bring the main course. The starters were cleared and then the main course came The vegetables and roast potatoes were shrivelled and stone cold, the meat was stone cold and dry, good news though, the plates were warm. This was the final straw and we made the decision to leave as the best and only possible way they could do anything would be to microwave the already gasping food. We asked to speak to the owners and were told that only the manager was available. We told him about the food and his reply was I can assure you its not cold as I have just taken them out of the oven myself We told him that the food WAS cold and to go and feel it for himself and that we had now had enough and were leaving and not be paying for the meal. With this, he shrugged his shoulders, stomped off, kicked open the kitchen door and we could hear him banging around obviously trying to make as much noise as he could. As we had paid £70 deposit for the meal we left a request for the owners to contact us to hopefully get an element of this reimbursed but they have failled to even pick up the phone. We are normally quite tolerant people but this really was THE worst ever experience that we have EVER had in ANY restaurant. I have given this review a one star ONLY because it wont allow me not to give it any stars !! read more
