The last time we were here, I got the Chicken Shawarma and a side of Hinterland Cheese Curds (must order!). Our friends got the fish & chips and they loved it. The batter looked very crispy and our fries were on point. Megan served us and she was very friendly and attentive. They've made upgrades to their menu and I think that their food options are getting better each time we return. I would have given The Som one star, but since we dined here on Valentine's Day and the restaurant was fairly packed, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that the food and service are usually better. The positives are the décor and atmosphere. Lamps softly light the tables, and there's comfortable seating suitable for parties of any size. Service was a little slow, which I attribute to how busy it was, but the staff was friendly. Unfortunately, the drinks were awful. The Long Island tasted like a premix, and the rum and Coke was watered down with too much ice. I ordered the butter chicken--it was filling but very bland. My lady ordered the birria tacos, which were extremely dry and unsatisfactory. Overall, this wasn't a good experience, and I'll be skipping this establishment the next time I'm in Burlington. read more

Stopped by for lunch while visiting Burlington on. Wednesday. Solid choice. We had the Choripan Burger and steak tacos. Loved the burger - tacos were good. Sat at the bar. This place feels like someplace you'd find in a big city. The food has big flavors and there were some unique menu items and the menu rotates. Staff was friendly. I'd highly recommend the chicken pita-every component had unique spices or flavor. The homemade fries were delicious. The cheesecake, made in-house was a little heavy and lacked peanut butter flavor. Really cool bar/entry. Loved the atmosphere, has one of the neater old fashioned bars around. Decor was quirky and fun. I got the blackened fish tacos, and they were excellent, loved the avocado in it. My wife got the burger and wasn't overly impressed, but she's a tough critic. Service was solid. read more

The veggie burger is probably the best vegetarian burger I have had in my life, and I have had many. Apart from that, the menu is really great and the items have fun names. Our waitress was pleasant and prompt, and the atmosphere overall was inviting and fun. Definitely check it out! read more

Stopped by on our way from PA to Mt. Pleasant on a Saturday. The place was hopping. Great selection of burgers, sandwiches, tacos, and bar sides. Cocktails looked yummy but we had a drive ahead of us yet. Ordered the cheese curds with ranch, burger to go with fried cauliflower and drank a beer while we waited for our to go order at the bar. We ate the cheese curds when we got to the car and they were gone in about 2 minutes. Great homemade ranch. Burger delicious. On a road trip through Burlington, we were looking for a good burger for lunch and stumbled on to The Som. What a great find! We were seated right away and the waitress was very helpful. My children each ordered a burger and then customized it with their favorite toppings. It was really easy to build the burger you want! And they have three different types of fries. We had sweet potato fries and straight fries. The sweet potato ones were served with a dipping sauce that looked like mayonnaise or ranch but was actually a sweet frosting like sauce. Once we got over the initial shock, it was very tasty. I had the Buffalo wings. They were some of the best wings I have had...smoked and fried to a perfect level of crispness. The blue cheese dipping sauce was amazing as well. They have a bunch of local beers on tap and a variety of cocktails. Being on a road trip, I didn't try any, but they looked fun. The Double flat burger was good, although there was no seasoning I had to separate my bread from the cheese to add salt and pepper. I could suggest offering a pretzel or thicker bun because the sauces and juices from the burger creates a very messy eating process. The sweet potato were the best I've had yet, way to give the people what they want. Had to eat them fairly quick do the air blowing strong on the food. One of the better food options in Burlington. The menu is pretty extensive and the cocktail list is superb for the area. There usually plenty of parking available. Prices are a little on the high side but the quality is good. On this occasion we had the birria tacos which was delicious, the meat was tender and topped with cheese that was grilled to perfection. At 4 tacos per order, it was very filling and decent value for money. Tried the yuca fries and cheese dip as sides, both of which were also excellent. The waitress also recommended the Honey Bunny cocktail. It's a good choice if you like sweet cocktails, it has a unique taste that is almost like liquid Skittles but with some very light froth from the egg whites. read more

Olivia was a delightful server. Her beer recommendation was spot on (the Key Lime beer was interesting for a light summer beer). We had the Pig and Goat Burger and the Not Your Daddy's Chicken Sandwich. The sweet potato fries were good, and the sweet maple dipping sauce was a great match with the salty sweet fries. I used to go to this bar years and years and years ago and it was basically a place to go for beer and a cheeseburger. When we wanted to pay back a couple for a doing us a big favor, they picked the Som. I thought, your kidding. ok......wow. we had excellent service. The music was loud (so loud you could not hear, we saw others putting their hands around their ears to talk} so we asked politely if it could just be turned out a bit. Fun bar vibe for a Saturday. We sat at the bar since there was a wait for a table. The bar is weird with a shelf for your feet but it makes it so you cannot get close to the bar with your feet on the shelf. It makes it hard to eat. The Bloody Mary was nothing special. On Saturday afternoon I had a SOM burger with cheddar, garlic aioli, Sriracha mayo, onions, and jalapeños with fries. The burger was delicious, with good beef flavor, and just a little char that enhanced the beefy flavor. The fries were only warm when served and cooled quickly, but that didn't stop me from cleaning my plate. Big problem was getting served. It took 45 min to order and get my meal.
