The spa itself was very beautiful and relaxing. I think to really get your money's worth, you should spend the whole day in the spa and take advantage of all of their amenities. The quiet room upstairs would be perfect with a book and an afternoon nap. The massage I had was fine. I got the summer special, which was a massage and foot scrub. I didn't realize that they weren't both full time treatments, so my 50 minute massage ended up only being about 30 minutes which was not ideal especially for the price. My husband and I had a great visit to the Old Edwards spa! We've visited highlands many times, stayed at 200 main but never indulged in the spa. Literally worth every penny. Come early and enjoy the amenities! Put away your phone and enjoy the cafe in your robe and slippers, hot tub, sauna, steam room, etc. Everything was perfect. Had a massage with Preston who was fantastic. 10+stars. I honestly was a tad skeptical but am a believer now for sure. Great job everyone and thank you for a great experience! read more

This is the best spa I have ever been too, hands down. Everything about this place is incredible, comfortable, welcoming, and relaxing. I've had several services here but the facials with Nang are not to be missed! I had the European Double-Lift Facial last time and it was so relaxing. This includes a massage of your face, neck, shoulders, arms, and hands. She hit all the right pressure points and relieved so much tension in my body, all while my facial is taking place. I had never had such a relaxing treatment. The overall experience of the spa is fantastic! The selection of beverages to enjoy while you relax by the fire, in the pool, by the waterfall, or in the serenity room is fantastic. The areas each have their own feel, including temperature variation and humidity, allowing you to find a spot that is just right. There is a cafe inside where you can enjoy food and a more extensive array of cocktails and wine, all while wrapped up in your luxurious robe and comfy slippers. The 16 head showers are invigorating and all of the toiletries on premise are Molton Brown and smell incredible. I would simply live here at this spa if I could, but there's no better place to be in the Blue Ridge Mountains than right here! This is not a vacation that disappoints in the least. *If you are wondering why you can't find more photos of the spa, it is because technology is strictly not allowed. I was a bit weirded out by this at first, but trust me when I say there is nothing to worry about. This place is utterly beautiful and serene. It might behoove management to add more photos to their website to avert any misgivings on that front. I am however so grateful that I got to enjoy my experience without having to hear phones ringing, buzzing, clicking, etc. read more

OEI is amazing. Post-Covid, however, the spa has drastically gone downhill. Don't get me wrong, the amenities (mineral pool, relaxation room, 12 head showers, steam room and sauna) are as fabulous as always but the massages are hot or miss. Pre-Covid it was consistently the best massage anywhere. And for the extremely high price tag and difficulty getting in, it should be. Post Covid, however, they don't seem to have decent providers. Of my last 3 massages there one was fabulous, the other two were blah. I'm not sure what's happened over there but it's nowhere near the spa it used to be. It's also extremely difficult to get in anymore, also suggesting a lack of providers. Here's hoping as time goes on they rebound but for now, I'd save your money and go to another spa in town. read more

I went to the spa with wonderful expectations. I have visited Highlands for 20 years but have never gone to the spa. I gave it to my daughter for Christmas and the experience was not great. They only have one tiny hot tub then 2 steam rooms. You are told to arrive 30 minutes before but you can spend an hour in spa areas after spa treatment. I get to my treatment and they tell me that what they are going to put on my face is a cold treatment and can't be hot for 2 hours so you. Can't go back to enjoy any of the spa area which honestly are not that great. They don't tell you that when booking.. I think they tell you this because they overbook and want you to leave. The person that did my facial talked for first 10 minutes then when I was relaxing rummaged through drawers. She never rubbed my shoulders or arms. Simply just put different products on my face. I will say at the was my face felt good but it was not a relaxing experience I've had at every other place I have been in my life. This is the first time I ever remember writing a negative review on a business but it was just a terrible experience for spending $500. I've been to a lot of spas in my life, but this one leaves all the others in the dust. Every single staff person I met (there were five of them!) went out of their ways to make my day visit as relaxing as a whole week at a resort. One even brought me a Band-Aid for a hurt finger! My body polish and massage were just what I needed for a big surgery coming up. Lunch in the spa cafe was light and delightful (including the gin-less gin & tonic). The only downer was how many customers ignored the signs asking them to leave their electronic devices in their lockers. One woman sat in the whirlpool with a cell phone AND a tablet perched on the ledge beside her. But that's on her, not the spa. Yes, it's expensive, but it's also like visiting Downton Abbey for a day. The next time I need a serious uplift for body and soul, I know where I'm going. read more

This is a fantastic spa. I've visited Highlands many times, but this was my second visit to the Old Edwards Inn spa. Their top service and relaxing atmosphere are so worth visiting. From the attendants in the women's lounge, to the waiter in the spa cafe, everyone went out of their way to be very accommodating and very friendly, but respecting your time to relax at the same time. I had a hot stone massage, and it was incredible. My massage therapist was very excellent, and he really worked with me to give me the massage I was looking for. It was the best hot stone massage I ever had, and the aromatherapy offered was excellent. I had the aromatherapy to help with your respiratory, and it was great. I only wish the massage was longer, as it was so amazing (and it was already 80 minutes long). The Jacuzzi in the women's hot tub is great. It's very deep, and has stones at the bottom for your feet. I loved that there was a bucket of ice cold towels to use right after the hot tub. The temperature was perfect. The steam room and sauna were unfortunately closed due to COVID, as they are in many other spas as well. But I still got a steam room type experience, because the shower was incredible. There were 14 jets in the shower, and you could change the speed/temperature for each one. The room was huge. I love all of the Molton Brown products offered (which I believe were also sold in the spa shop). The changing room was also very nice, with products such as toothbrushes and hairbrushes offered. It was great to sit down at a big mirror and use their hair dryer and straightener. The women's lounge is decorated so beautifully. The bathrobe and slippers were so comfortable. When I came in, the attendant realized the bathrobe in my locker would be too big before I even put it on, so she went to go get another smaller robe, which I was pleased about as many spas only have one size robes. The spa cafe was delicious. Unfortunately when we went, they were only serving light fare and not lunch. My partner and I shared the smoked trout dip, and had the "Spa Day" cocktail. It was great. Then I stayed in the meditation room, which is a beautiful room, overlooking Highlands, with very comfortable chaise lounge chairs. The water and tea they offered in these lounges were very refreshing. I can't wait until the next time I can visit the Old Edwards Inn Spa. It was truly a fantastic day, and I only wish I had time to stay longer and relax. read more

There is no place in the spa to read on a Kindle or an iPad. I believe this policy is new. They make you sign a form that you won't use a device. I read on my Kindle to relax, so this is crazy. I won't be back to the resort. I'll have to drive to Grove Park Inn in Asheville for the next get away. read more

I have been vacationing in Highlands for many years. However, today was my first experience visiting the spa. I only made an apt for a one hour massage because we were leaving to drive back home. Let me just say, from the moment I was checked in until the moment I left......superior service. The spa is extremely clean, quiet, relaxing and run so professionally. After my massage, I went into the peppermint steam room for about 10 minutes. Wow, I could have stayed there all day (not literally but you get my point). I only wish I had gotten the chance to stay longer and receive more services and enjoy the amenities.....like lunch. I cannot wait until I am back in Highlands because I will absolutely be back to the spa! read more

A sign in the reception area states that they received the only perfect score in the history of Conde Nast and I experienced the reason. Incredible staff, beautiful facilities and talented masseuse. We have been going to the OEI spa for some time, Of course we were looking forward to our couples massage as one of the highlights of our trip. The Spa had called us the day before to move our appointment back a half an hour---no problem. However, when we showed up 30 minutes before our appointed time, we were told that there was a mess up and that they could not accommodate us. The biggest disappointment was both that they told us they had tried to call us, (which they had not!)and that they did not offer us anything as consideration for their error. read more

This spa is overpriced and pretentious and the massage and hair-styling services were awful. The visit was a gift from my husband for my 50th bd and I had to lie and tell him what a great experience it was, but it wasn't. I think places that rely on tourist business don't think they have to provide the same service as those that rely on repeat business. This is certainly a case of that. read more
