Great shop in merchant square! The store is full of anything you could want spice or tea related. I walked out with a beautiful green translucent olive oil bottle that I can't wait to use. They have your standard spices, but also curated spice packs that makes trying new recipes much simpler! If you know someone who likes to cook, this shop would be a great spot to pick up a gift. On the other side of the store is a wall full of various flavors of loose leaf tea, ranging from highly caffeinated black tea to herbal. They also have a small booth inside the shop where you can order a cup of hot or iced tea from any of the flavors in the store. Ohhh... this shop is full of possibili-teas! First of all, when you walk in, it smells fantastic! A wall of spices welcomes you and beckons you to add some spice to your life! Talk about "seasons greetings"!!! As you delve deeper into the store, another wall of teas invites you to "sniff" to your heart's content! The staff was friendly and encouraged us to open the "testing" jars and smell the various teas. What incredible blends... I'm an avid tea drinker and I found the combinations so tempting... the banana nut vanilla tea was spectacular... as well as some other autumn tea flavors that I purchased! I couldn't resist the pumpkin chai tea, so I picked out a fall sampler that I can't wait to try! I also purchased a couple tea infused candles, some cute enamel tea pins, and some honey spoons! So many cute gifts for the sinensophile or the spice lover in your life! They also have a "to go" counter so you can order a hot cuppa or a refreshing iced beverage! Been here while traveling to Williamsburg, and the staff here are welcoming. This is a good place to find all sorts of spices, teas, honey, and utensils, and they also serve ready-made tea from their selection, both hot and cold, so that you can taste it before actually buying the tea in bulk. It was a beautiful day to stroll Williamsburg shops. The sun was shining, temperatures were perfect , the birds were singing, and I had a drink in my hand... the mint chilla chai Nilla iced tea from the spice and tea exchange. It was just what I needed. I have been to a Spice and Tea Exchage in a different state. But, this location has some of the nicest employees. Nicole was extremely helpful. She greeted us upon entering and explained what we can do and can not do due to covid. She always had a smile on her face and a great laugh that just wanted to to go out and enjoy the rest of your day. She did wonderful at multitasking the register, greeting customers and making our teas. There are so many spices and blends to choose from here. We actually buy our spices in bulk. It is much cheaper and the quality is better depending on where you purchase them. We house them in smaller mason jars. Much easier to work with. The prices here are very reasonable and comparable to other spice stores. The bonus in this store is the tea selection. My husband and I love a good tea. I love that this location makes hot or iced tea from any of their selection. It's a great way to taste what they have and venture out to try new things. The store was very clean. It is tucks last back so it can be missed a little. We will certainly be back! read more

While a bit of a drive from me, my Grubbing Buddy and I took the trip because we are both interested in custom herbs and spices, and she's crazy about teas. In fact, speaking of teas, while there they will make your tea hot or cold to try and carry out While the prices can be steep, the combination of flavors will tell you it's all worth it. If you're into gourmet cooking, this is a must-go-to place. Their offerings list includes Lavender Flower, Hungarian Hot Paprika, Rose Petals, and hard-to-find Arbol Chile Honey Jar. Based on the reviews here, it seems my experience was out of the ordinary. I found the welcome here to be cold and harsh. I typically love tea shops but I felt like I offended the staff member with my question. So let's back up a bit. I stopped in yesterday with my mom after having brunch across the street. I love tea shops and generally will stop in when I happen to see one. Otherwise I had never heard of this spot. We were greeted almost immediately and asked if we needed help finding anything, which was great. I asked if they had any blends that could be beneficial for someone with anxiety and stomach pain. The staffer replied that they don't recommend tea for medicinal purposes as there's conflicting evidence regarding their helpfulness. Her tone was so judgmental (as if I asked her a ridiculous question), and I really feel like that was an unnecessary response. I wasn't asking for a prescription. Would she have replied the same way if I simply asked for a "calming" tea? I didn't really know what to say, so I asked if they had tea with peppermint. My mom chimed in that peppermint helps to settle her stomach. The staffer showed us a few blends, none of which I was too interested in, and then let us know we could walk around and smell the teas if we'd like. I felt really uncomfortable by that point, so we left. I guess my recommendation to future visitors would be to not mention medical issues even though people commonly use herbs and plants for such purposes. I would've loved to love this shop, but I can't say I'll personally return after that interaction. I've rounded up to three stars as they did have a wide variety of loose leaf teas available for purchase and the store was otherwise cozy. read more

Such a great place! I was dealing with some stomach pain and knew tea would be an effective remedy. I found this place through Yelp and I see why it's rated well. Upon walking into the store, I was greeted and helped by a very knowledgeable employee. She made great suggestions and within a few minutes of drinking a cup of the hot Cravings Blocker tea, I felt much better! I would give this place 10 stars if I could! I have shopped here several times and have never been disappointed in any of the products. The store has some of the best spices, teas, and honey's around! Top it off with such caring, kind, and thoughtful staff and you have a recipe for wonderful success. I could write a review for each item, but to save you time, I'll list some of my personal favorites, with pictures attached :) Honey straws- I mean, beautifully curated honey in a perfectly sized straw, what could be better? the blackberry blossom is out of this world good and perfect for a afternoon cup of tea. Himalayan Salted Honey- shew. this is a perfect addition to any cup of tea. It is an exquisite blend of salt- not too overpowering but gives just the right amount of flavor. Black Truffle Garlic- I'd bathe in anything truffle and this spice makes me want to do just that (not literally, please don't bathe in it, but you get what I'm saying) it's a perfect pair to everything I've used it on- to name a few, eggs, chicken, salmon, pork chops, you name it, I've used this spice on it. Carne Asada spice blend- Perfect for marinating skirt or flank steak (or any meat) for tacos, or whatever. I used it for tacos when I had friends over for a picnic, but you could get creative! All of my friends raved about this marinade Ginger Turmeric Tea- Yes, yes, yes. Perfect tea for me. I use turmeric for it's inflammation benefits and seriously, this tea makes my body feel so much better. Even better, all the ingredients are organic. I feel fueled by this tea. Ginseng Hippie- Let's talk brain. I feel better focused, more relaxed, but also energized. Again, all organic ingredients make me feel like I'm really treating my body right. Perfect amount of mint in the flavor, too. I'm obsessed. I've read a couple of reviews that the prices were high and I'll just say, you get what you pay for. Run, don't walk to this shop and buy one of everything. That's my recommendation. read more

Be sure to stroll downstairs and have a cup of tea on the house (only two choices previously brewed) but with real teacups and for nothing but a tip. This is a great little shop with so many amazing things! We came in looking for tea but spent a lot of time browsing and enjoying the smells of all the different spices that they had to offer. The people there were incredibly knowledgeable and gave us some great suggestions for the best teas for what we were looking for. We were able to buy exactly what we wanted and more! My favorite is the Marrakesh mint tea--it reminds me of my time in Morocco! The flavored sugars are amazing! They smell exactly how they're supposed to. Some of them are a little odd for sugar, but I was still pretty impressed by how exact the smells were to their descriptions. The spices were the same way as well. I really enjoyed spending time sampling the scents of all of the teas and spices. I can't wait to visit again and get more tea and spices the next time I'm in Williamsburg! read more

My husband and I were very impressed with the spice and tea selection. I liked that you could purchase by the ounce, that you didn't have to commit to a large portion. We got two different types of chai and two different types of curry. I have been using them since being home, and they are delicious. I discovered this spice shop this weekend and it was an absolute joy! Its a tiny shop with shelves filled with spices, teas, herbs, and even flavored sugars. I feel like I didn't get to see everything and am looking forward to making another trip back. This weekend, I tried the Herbs de Provance and the California salt-less blend which are both so wonderful. I've been using them on everything. I also bought the White Rose Tea which is fragrant and light. The owners were very helpful and friendly. Apparently there is a tea room downstairs and I completely forgot to check it out. I'll update when I do! In the meantime, I highly recommend checking it out! I also got a Rewards Card. You get a punch for every $10 spent and after 14 punches you get $15 off your next purchase. I stumbled upon this little gem when I was walking around Williamsburg, looking for a place to eat lunch. They had every spice I could think of! I love cooking with different spices, and it is difficult to find some in the Hampton/Newport News area. This place has it all! They have flavored salt (Bacon salt made with no bacon.that tastes like bacon) and flavored sugars. The employees are extremely friendly and give you new ideas on how some of the flavored sugars can be used (to include samples). I tried habanero lemonade and immediately purchased the habanero sugar. Another few ideas they suggested were raspberry sugar on top of freshly baked brownies or lavender lemonade. They also have great tea options from fruity to bold and caffeine to de-caffeinated. They have such a plethora of options, and some of the most amazing service! Such good luck to walk by there on the store's opening day! While it's a franchise of a national chain, the local shop has a sweet mom-and-pop feel. The atmosphere is wonderful, the staff -- incredibly friendly, and their goods -- interesting and high quality. They have informative books for the more unusual items. (I bought spices I normally use, but also was intrigued by something called grains of paradise, apparently also known as melegueta pepper, which we looked up together with a sales lady.) My wife and I stop in here every time we visit Wiliamsburg (about once a year). We really like the shop and like to try new things each time we visit. The last time we were there, I bought a new spice (Pirate's Bite) that I now enjoy several times a week with my breakfast. I was almost out, and we aren't going to be back to Williamsburg for a few more months. I called to see if they'd ship a refill to me. They were quite helpful and friendly. The package arrived super quick, and was well wrapped. The put the refill packet in another thick ziplock bag to prevent leakage. I am very pleased with their products, and especially their service. Spices are good. But call first. Tried to go there and they were closed for an hour for lunch! I had to change all my plans and drive back and forth because of this. There should be a back up plan for them so they can get lunch since apparently it's mandatory.
