My Boyfriend and I were part of a private tour of restaurants/tastings at a number of Williamsburg's places. Our first stop was The SPICE AND TEA EXCHANGE OF WILLIAMSBURG. They had an assortment of Teas and spices to select from. What a treat! The aroma was delightful. We purchased a few things there. Teas and Spices. The next stop was to The Hound's Tale pub. This was nice, we tried their Brussel Sprouts. The portion was generous. Our next stop was to say hello to Chef's Kitchen and we were able to speak with Chef John Gonzales. He had some wonderful suggestions for pairing wines. The nice thing is all of his wines were only $10 and they had been for many years. We can wait until he reopens his kitchen again. On to PAUL'S Deli, WOW!!!!!!!!!! The PIZZA and the Holly SUB was amazing and very tasty. We tried a variety of local beers and ciders. TOTALLY suggestions trying PAULS Deli. Thank goodness this was a walking tour. I was stuffed however we still had more to see. Next stop Blue Talon Bistro for Mac and Cheese. NICE again generous portions for tasting. Then we went to Kilwins for Ice cream and Fudge tasting, WOW they were so nice and very welcoming. The ice cream was very creamy and a lot of favors to taste. Next was a small PEANUT SHOP, they too were nice and gave us samples of peanuts to try. Last was the WYTHE CANDY Shop....Did I say I was STUFFED? YES We had plans to go to a nice dinner but I couldn't eat anything else. Our tour guide, APRIL, She was knowledgeable, humorous, and attentive. She kept us engaged with food and restaurant information as well as sharing some of her experiences and insights. She gave us a history lessons and went above and beyond to make sure our needs were taken great care of. She was very friendly and always offered to take photos. This was a complete waste of $60. I see why we were the only ones to go on the tour. .. Tour guide Emily. FIRST STOP: They give you samples of peanuts which you can go into the store and receive for free yourself. SECOND STOP: Spices and teas with some ounces of sugars cheapest $4.00 so that is $64.00 for a pound of sugar??? THIRD STOP: A slice of regular doughy pizza ($3.00) FORTH STOP: A forth of a Hot Holly sandwich because they cut it up into 4 pieces ($2.50). FIFTH STOP: Next you get 3 samples of beer which equal (7.50). SIXTH STOP: You than get a forth of an ice cream sandwich (2.00). SEVENTH STOP: Than you get an appetizer of regular not gourmet mac n cheese TO SHARE with 4 people again (2.50). EIGTH STOP: You than go to a fudge store (free samples) and a goody bag with a small pretzel ($2) NINTH STOP: Candy store where (free samples) and you get a coupon for 10% and a good bag with 2 small chocolates ($2) you can buy at your local store. Very very disappointing tour and than our tour guide waiting at the end for a tip ($20) which I was dumb enough to give and tells us to leave a review on Yelp so she can get more money on top. The overall value is like $25 for food and you are paying $60????? Plus tip OMGGGGG. My husband and I do food tours all over the United States and Europe. We've been on over 30. I would say that this ranks one of the best. April did an amazing job. She was fun and funny and full of energy, knowledge and history. She's comes from a long line of locals who have many good stories. Everything we tasted was delicious and there was plenty of it. no one on our tour was able to eat everything. Fortunately she let us brown bag whenever we needed to. We learned all sorts of fun facts about Williamsburg and the people who settled here. Our group was 11 guests and we met all kinds of new fun foodie friends. We were even lucky enough to meet famous celebrity chef from, "A Chef's Kitchen", John Gonzalez. I can't Wait to go back to some of these restaurants and shops. It was an excellent value for the money. I read some other reviews complaining about the amount of food for the price. Yes if you spend $60 in a restaurant of course you're going to get a full meal. But this is a "tasting" precisely. The value is in the time the guide spent educating us on the area and helping us find the best spots to go back to for meals in the future. read more

My mom and I went to this food tour as a first stop on our mother daughter weekend in Williamsburg. It was a perfect first stop for us, April showed us all around the local spots that weren't too touristy and told us all the neat stuff about the town and the food we tried was delicious and it felt like we were touring the town with an old friend. In addition to the tour she gave us great recommendations for what to do that weekend that I couldn't find online when I planned our trip, we even bumped into her at a super fun local band concert she suggested! Would definitely recommend to anyone who's visiting Williamsburg for the first time and wants to the get the most out of their visit. read more

Let me provide everyone an update...6 months later they've claimed to have addressed the issue by blaming it on the places they visit. What a joke. You'd have more fun lighting your money on fire and eating the ashes. ___________________________________________ If I'm being honest, our entire group was very underwhelmed with this experience. We've done 5+ food tours in multiple cities and found this one to be considerably lacking by comparison. Here is some of what drove our poor experience: - In the candy store and peanut store, it seemed like the businesses weren't expecting us. It was extremely crowded and we were basically told to stand around while we waited for some very bad candy. In the peanut store, I heard our guide asking if we our group could get a discount on a later purchase and was told no. - We didn't make it into whatever the "herb store" was supposed to be - In the first restaurant we went into, they asked if we would wait outside. It was 40 degrees and pretty windy. It's not unreasonable to expect a better experience considering we booked a food tour. The mac and cheese was fantastic here. - The pizza restaurant was pretty bad in our opinion. The pizza was subpar, but the portions were at minimum decent. - The night-club was great. The server did a small presentation and the food was great. - In the place where we had wings, I would guess that people averaged one wing per person. - In the final restaurant, there was no where near enough food to go around. Everyone got maybe one bite of each dish, maybe. I thought I heard the comment made multiple times by our guide that people were added onto the tour. This really showed in the quantity of food and some of the places we visited almost seemed annoyed at our presence. Considering the cost associated with this tour (which is average for a food tour), we expected a much more accommodating experience with more food to go around. Our first food tour and nothing to write home about. Average food,except for the wings at the Amber Ox which where very good. The give aways at the chocolate and peanut shops can be had by anyone. Our guide did not seem to be into it, Not much of a talker or foodie. We could have gotten the same food and treats for about half the price. Would rate the guide 2 stars, food 3 stars. Don't waste your time. Free samples at restaurants that already give out free samples is not a food tour. We got two samples of food- Macaroni and Cheese and Blue Talon ( which was delicious) and ribs at The Seasons ( which was ok). The rest of the tour was sampling free food at different establishments that already give out free food. The kicker was at the end of the tour, when all 8 of us split one cookie at a sweets shoppe. Couldn't even spring for half a cookie? I declined because I felt it was ridiculous to split a cookie 8 ways, but then again I was starving from lack of food so maybe I should have gone for it. You need to do this. Our tour guide, Nicki, was so knowledgeable and friendly. I was impressed by the fact that we visited stores, ate samples and dined at sit down restaurants. The mac and cheese at one restaurant was nothing short of amazing, and the last restaurant was a great place to complete the tour. Nicki encouraged conversation to flow freely, and the group enjoyed great conversations as we ate and traveled between spots. Plus, the tour moved at our speed - we were given time to shop as we visited various stores. The tour is well worth the price, and if you look in some of the tour books, you'll find coupons for money off, which is a bonus. read more

Where do I begin? We waited in the snow for someone to show up to take us on what we expected to be a wonderful experience. We repeatedly tried to call their office and only received information about the tour, with no way to leave a message or to request that that they call us. I will say that our guide Marc was a delightful young man and did his best to make the best of a horrible experience. Never in my life, have I been taken to retail stores on a food tour and the only thing offered was a 10% coupon and samples that I would have gotten just by visiting the store, without spending money to go on a tour! Moving on from peanuts, tea and spices, we were next offered what can only be described as "college food", really, pizza, chicken wings and a horrible sub are the best you had to offer! Trust me I can get pizza, chicken wings and a sub in just about any town I am in. Then on to a fudge shop and a candy store, where again we were given a coupon and samples that were there for everyone to sample. I expected a "Taste of Williamsburg" to offer a taste from the excellent restaurants in Colonial Williamsburg, not a tour of food places for college students. Very disappointed in what was offered. Paid $47 to sample a few things in a few shops i could have done on my own. Two hot wings and a slice of pizza at two locations. This is not a taste of WILLIAMSBURG it is a taste of college. We bought this through Groupon and I was disappointed. In our opinion, calling this a "food tour" is being generous. It started with booking and a mysterious $5 per person "tax". Hmm. It seemed fishy to me, but I didn't want my Groupon to go to waste, so I booked anyway. We started at a candy store. Each of us was given a small bag with 3-4 pieces of candy. The candy ended up being all prepackaged that I could have gotten at the grocery store (my husband's had a pack of Juicy Fruit...) From there, we went to a peanut shoppe, with the only samples being open to everyone in the shop, not only those on an overpriced food tour. Next was a tea and spice shop - no food to taste here. Retro's for fried pickles next. We're not fans of fried pickles, so passed ours on to another couple on the tour (the tour was advertised to have frozen yogurt at this stop.) We then went to the Blue Talon and were told they couldn't accommodate us for at least an hour. Our tour guide then took us on the tour of the William and Mary campus. Our tour guide was nice, but didn't seem that confident with what they were presenting us. You could tell they were more into the tour of the campus than the rest. It took me back to being in college and bragging about my school. We left campus and headed to College Delly and hot holly sandwiches. Okay, but nothing to write home about. Lastly was Blue Talon with the gourmet macaroni and cheese. This was more of what we were expecting and what we enjoyed the most. The macaroni and cheese was delicious, but definitely not worth the rest of the tour. I feel like the tour is disorganized and misleading. Taking your tour to stores that sell food doesn't constitute a food tour. The establishments should be expecting the tours when they arrive and they should arrive at a pre-scheduled time. The weather was nice though and we enjoyed walking around outside. But this wasn't worth the cost of the Groupon and definitely not worth the full price. Also, I really think this is one of those companies born of Groupon and Living Social and wouldn't exist without them. Save your money and go to each place individually. And so you don't get your hopes up, only ONE of the pictures on this Yelp page is representative of the food you'll have. read more

Absolutely terrible. They never showed up at my time. Their phone number they gave me went to voice mail. After waiting 30 minutes walked across the street to go to a for lunch because we were starving, In the interim I write them an email, and I guess someone on their end saw that because these clowns then call me 45 minutes later saying there waiting for me at a different spot which is Bull. There website had a different address then the email, but I was at both and actually my wife was at one while I at the other because we had no clue what to do. We asked the places of business that they told them to meet us at, and the store owners were like "we get this a lot and we have no clue". So while I'm sure you may get a good tour, don't waste your time. All the places their taking you have the stuff for free to give anyway. Then when I disputed the charge on my credit card, they told my credit card company they were waiting for me at the location and calling me for 20 minutes and I decided to cancel which is crap and lie. I showed my cell phone records proving that everything they said was a lie and they didn't have a leg to stand on, they just want to keep my $100 because there a bunch of cheap bozos, probably college kids. Just a super shady operation. It's easy to do this once or twice with a group of people you know, and get a few good reviews, don't let the reviews full you. Look at the bad ones and listen to them. I have never had a company lie as bad as this one. And to top it off I was looking forward to this tour, and wanted to go on it, but when you don't show up at the meet location, don't answer the phone when I called a dozen times, and then your employee calls me 45 minutes after our start which only happened because I wrote an email, and your employee is at a different location then we agreed on, and your employee told me you would refund me for my inconvenience, and then you tell my credit card your employee was at the meet spot trying to get a hold of me for 20 minutes, and then I show cell phone records showing I had no incoming call from you until 45 minutes after we started but it shows me calling your company like crazy at the start....and the sad part is this is all true. If you want to associate with this shady operation be my guest, but I'm filing complaints with BBB and district attorneys office because I got them caught in a huge lie over a lousy $98, and I just have no patients for liers. Taste of the Worst Food in Williamsburg plus free samples at retail shops. I have been on many extraordinary food tours, including ones in Seattle, New Orleans and Austin. This was a scam...a joke. The four of us paid $200 and wasted our afternoon being served college student quality pizza, wings, and sandwiches. Plus we were taken to the peanut shop, spice shop and chocolate shop and got samples any customer gets plus a coupon. We figure the owner spent $30 on food (if it costs him/her anything at all), paid the excellent guide kid $20 and pocketed $150. This is an embarrassment to all the wonderful food tours and honest businessmen and businesswomen around the country. The only reason we didn't leave the tour early was that the tour guide was a fine young man who we enjoyed talking with. read more
