This should be considered a must-do if you are visiting San Juan. What an amazing way to learn about the history and culture of Puerto Rico, while drinking amazingly crafted cocktails and eating bites made with local ingredients. I am also incredibly grateful for their flexibility with planning. Originally, we were supposed to be a group of 13. Then 3 dropped out of the trip. Then 6 more dropped out of the trip. Paulina and her team were great to work with! I thought it would be difficult, but they were extremely easy to communicate with and were very transparent. They also accommodated a gluten and shellfish allergy with no problem. The tour itself was amazing. Our tour guide, Pablo, had a very warm personality and was very knowledgeable about not only the history of PR, but of the current food scene happening. He was able to answer all our questions and I really like how it felt more like a discussion than a Q&A. Loved it! As far as food & drinks - 10/10. The tour started off with a light meal (which was incredibly thankful for later on!) and a drink, and as we moved to different bars/restaurants, it felt like just the right pace and the right balance. Our experience was great! Our guide (new to the company) was Sheyla. She was early at the meeting spot, very energetic and enthusiastic, encouraging us to get to know one another on our 10 person tour and excited to share authentic Puerto Rican cuisine and her knowledge of Old San Juan. It was no surprise at most of the stops as I've read reviews of the same places (Deaverdura, Hecho En Casa, Trapiche Gelato, Club Spritz & Cafe Negro). Each stop had its charm and local feel (especially those places without air conditioning- the heat is no joke, dress accordingly). The food was tasty and Sheyla explained how everything was made and seasoned! We explored the city and learned some fun facts along the way. My only constructive criticism is that the gelato place didn't feel as authentic and we would have liked to try something different for our "sweet". Gelato seems like a new fad when we were expecting more old flavors. The tour ended with the most fantastic flan in the world. So don't get me wrong, the gelato didn't taint our experience! We loved the mofongo so much at Hecho En Casa that we came back the next day for another serving. read more

I couldn't drink because of medicine and she was able to remember at every location to provide me with a virgin option of each drink. Gustavo was great! He was friendly, charismatic, and very knowledgable. We met up with him at a plaza near the fort and walked to a nearby cafe for some amazingly smooth coffee. Gustavo shared great information about the company and the historic building we were in. Along our walk to the lunch location, he pointed out great landmarks and explained the historical significance of each place. Lunch was amazing! A real local place! Elliot did a great job today on our walking tour and food tasting in Old San Juan. The food was great and there was a lot of it! He was careful to point out bathrooms and shops and other amenities that might interest the tour group, taking care to provide for guest comfort. They asked everybody about dietary restrictions and made accommodations as necessary. He had everything pre-arranged so that we had a very smooth transition from place to place. We did not have to wait to get into any of the restaurants. He was very good about explaining how all of the dishes were made and how they related to the primary cultural and Cuisine influences that is the indigenous people, spanish, and the African culinary traditions. My husband and I love to eat and we read such great reviews about this company. We decided to go on the Old San Juan Walk and Taste tour since we wanted to see Old San Juan by foot and have time to go to the beach in the afternoon. We went on tour with Nicole. The tour consisted of us and another couple which made it easy to walk around in the narrow streets of Old San Juan. We started our tour by El Morro where Nicole told us about the history of the fortress. We liked the fact that this tour combined San Juan's history, as well as showing us around local food spots. We were then taken to Don Ruiz Cafe where we had cafe con leche and a plain mallorca. While we ate breakfast, Nicole taught us about the harvesting and roasting process of Puerto Rican coffee. After breakfast, we then walked around some landmarks in Old San Juan while being showed places to we could go to eat or drink in the area. We stopped in for a brief visit at Don Collins Cigar and Rum shop. There we had a shot of local rum. We then walked around the town some more and saw more sites. At the end, I was surprised to find out we were eating again. We were stuffed from the coffee and the mallorcas but weren't going to turn down more food! We went to Manolin Cafe where we had mojitos and mofongo. Everything was delicious and we were all stuffed at the end. Nicole made sure we knew where we were going at the end of the tour. Overall we were very happy we listened to all the great reviews. Nicole was a great tour guide and told us about many places to eat and see while we are in Puerto Rico. She's new to this company but you wouldn't know it, because she knew her stuff. We highly recommend booking with this tour company. If we had more time, we would've gone on the lunch tour as well. With a love of food and cooking, my mom and I booked this tour when we were in San Juan on a cruise in the spring. Our guide, Pablo was amazing. You could feel the love he has for his city and island radiating off of him. We went to five different places ranging in price point and type of food (risotto, farm to table concept, an ice cream place, mofongo, and one more). While walking between, Pablo did an amazing job of sharing history and architecture facts about the city while also making certain to answer everyone's questions. Last week, my parents returned to San Juan on a cruise. They were incredibly happy to hear that Spoon Food tours was back up and running!! We thoroughly enjoyed our walking and tasting tour of Old San Juan. Pablo was great and showed a good time. We visited six different restaurants and sampled quite a few native dishes. My favorite was probably the pork shoulder but I'm also partial to mofongo and I enjoyed that too. Next time we come back to San Juan, we'll go with Spoon Food Tours again but this time, will probably try the offerings on Calle Loiza or maybe we'll do the brunch tour of OSJ. I attended the Spoon Experience food tour led by Pablo. He was an amazing tour guide! He's a San Juan native and knows his city quite well. Even though it was raining, he coordinated the tour without our group getting too wet. We tried Puerto Rican coffee, a traditional Puerto Rican meal with roasted pork, rice, and chickpeas, Puerto Rican chocolate, and a Puerto Rican popsicle store to end the experience. He gave the background and history behind the foods we sampled. Along the way we visited highlights of old San Juan. This tour was a great value and so much fun. We tasted food at 2 restaurants, a bar, and 2 coffee shops. I can't recommend our tour guide, Rocío, enough. She had such a great attitude and was very knowledgeable. You could tell she was really fond of the sense of community that exists in Old San Juan.
