I really like this barbers…read more.. I commute to work in Kilcock and have tried all the barbers over the past year. New Lane barbers is definitely the best one. In fact I used to get my hair cut in Dublin and they always cut off way too much. So now I wait until I'm in work in Kilcock to get it cut. The lady here listens to what you want and my hair always comes out looking great. She is also very funny and friendly and is always giggling and is very sweet If your looking for a barber who is friendly and skilled at her job then you should try out New Lane Barbers. This is located on the main road in Kilcock and is open, Mon Tues Thurs Fri Sat she told me she closes Sunday and Wednesdays Opening hours 9.30-5.30pm

The price of a cut has escalated over the years as well so I was surprised when quite a fussy friend of mine raved abut this joint. I brought my mop and scepticism along and fell in love, why? Not the cheap price, the friendly staff, the current magazines or the lack of snobbery. These things all helped but The Academy has the one thing many Irish barbers don't. The town is coming…read moredown with barbers - heard there's even a part of the town nicknamed 'barbers tow' because there's so many of them, like an even pub:barbers ratio. Anyway - the guys that work here are all friendly and they all get along extremely well with each other and their customers. It is always very clean and well maintained, with two TVs tuned to SkySports. I'm sure there's other barbers that are pretty good in the town - but since I started coming here I've never felt compelled to go elsewhere. I usually go to Rob, he's a good dude and is quick with the shears. Always has a story and laugh so it makes a trip to Rory's a good little visit instead of a chore for a mundane task like a haircut. No complaints here, can only encourage you to give Rory's Barbers a go.

But I've been out of town for quite some time so lost touch.... wow, how things have changed! I was recently given a gift voucher for the place. I was well chuffed, and was very much looking forward to getting the value for money and treatment I had enjoyed before. Alas this was not to be, and I have to bid farewell to O'Hara Byrne and say "back to basics lads!" ... I don't know what's happened, but the service I received was well below par, and at the end I was given a lick and a promise and all but ushered out the door after my own discarded hair clippings. The chap who cut my hair was quite heavy handed, to the point of discomfort, and when I went to get my hot towel beard trim and shave, well ... in/out/gone faster than the blink of an eye ... none of the leisurely attention to detail that the place USED to be famous for. Now, perhaps I fell into the trap of letting the owner know I had a voucher up front, so regardless of the fact that he had been paid for my visit months in advance, he wasn't inclined to give value for money. That would be, well, slightly understandable yet unfair, if it was some kind of massive discount voucher. *BUT IT WASN'T* ... I later found out that the person who gave me the voucher had paid *through the nose*, to the barber, at *well over double* what the advertised rates are and what I had previously paid. So - enough said - I'm not going back and can no longer recommend them - I thought this place was one of the last remaining bastions of "no rip off" ... sadly, its not the case - daylight robbery is at home to stay at O'Hara Byrne in Carlow. Shame guys, shame on you.

Let me set the scene for your - It's a somewhat sleepy Saturday evening in Carlow town. The town is busy but not crowded. I'm came down to visit some friends as I live in Dublin. My friend mentions he needs to get a haircut. We go to O'Hara's as my friend is a regular. Says hello to guy working there etc and we sit down. I'm take out my phone and start to text my better half. There is 2 people before us in the queue with 1 finishing getting a hair cut. The place has room for about 8 - 10 to sit and wait altogether. From here it gets interesting - The hairdresser stops cutting the persons hair, walks over to me and asks what am I getting done. I said I'm just waiting for my friend to get a quick shave. I was then told that I'm not allowed wait inside the shop for him and I'm to "leave". Shocked, I ask if he is serious and he delivers the whopper that if I sit there [in the back unseeable from the window] people won't come in for a haircut. He then tells me again to get out. My friend gets up to leave. Amazingly the hairdresser doesn't even try stop him and doesn't even faint an apology but instead keeps talking about how me sitting there would stop customers coming in. We went elsewhere and it turned out to be cheaper and much better service. When it first opened, I heard this place used to be all about the customer and giving that premium experience to new and regulars. Clearly, now it's all about getting as many customers turned around as fast as possible.... poor show!
