My friend who knows Groningen recommended this place so we came a few times during our stay in Groningen.
The first thing to know is the experience was quite inconsistent for us. It really depends on which bartender is helping you. My friend went first and he had a great conversation with the bartender who made drinks for him and another friend that they loved. This bartender really nailed their tastes. We came in for my first time and they were transitioning from the fall to winter menu so they told us they had like three things left from the fall menu. They literally said we have two of that drink left. I guess this is an efficient way to run a bar but they should kind of say that when you make the reservation on the phone or something. We came back AGAIN and now they were in their full winter menu. We each got two drinks again and this visit is when I started to notice that their drinks kind of taste the same, regardless of what you order. My friend also tried to engage this bartender in a conversation to see if he could get a specialized recommendation again but this bartender was not interested and just said whatever. That's why I describe this place as inconsistent. They have great bartenders and less interested ones so you could have a great experience or a meh one.
I mentioned this above but a few of the drinks kind of taste the same. Maybe I ordered two things that are similar but we did come in multiple times and tried a lot of drinks.
The vibe is nice, especially when it's not crowded. It gets crowded easily because it's quite small inside. They're trying to do a prohibition/speakeasy theme and it mostly works. The background music was wildly different between my two visits. The first time was like modern music done in Elvis-style (this is the best way to describe it) and that was memorable for us. The second time the music was just normal. See? Inconsistent.
Check it out when you're in Groningen because it's an experience, and hopefully a better one when you're there. read more
