Awesome staff! I was looking so a guitar with a specific sound. I had been to this shop in the past and knew that had a limited inventory so I decided to go to guitar center for more options and boy was that a mistake. Ending up leaving there in tears and coming here and the staff was phenomenal. The previous front desk woman( she has since moved on) sat down with me, explained how every guitar they sell is hand picked, and played every guitar for me. Some more than once until I narrowed down the one I wanted to they helped me pick out what I needed and set me up with lesson. My teacher was also a super chill guy who you could tell truly had a passion for what he does. And the owner is also a very kind man. I now recommend this store to anyone who will listen! read more

My MIL painted this door harp many years ago but never finished completing the strings and wires. We found it tucked away amongst her belongings after she passed away and vowed we'd complete it. We bought an unfinished door harp online and tried to use the parts from it to complete the project. It was an epic fail. We could not get the correct tension on the correct wire as hard as we tried. We stumbled across a store called the Strum Shop in old town Roseville on our way to lunch. Yesterday we picked the door harp up. I took my Martin guitar into a music store in Carmichael for an adjustment (a string had fretted out) and got it back with the action pretty messed up (it was difficult to play the guitar). Older lady sitting at front desk falsely accused us of stealing, "stuffed pockets" when we were walking out. We immediately walked back in and showed the contents of my pockets. No apology from the lady like she didn't believe us. We did appreciate the gentleman who spoke up and thanked us for coming back in. My boyfriend and I came in while window shopping and we didn't buy anything. As we were leaving, my boyfriend put his personal items back into his pocket. The lady at the register that was conversating with other people asked us if we were looking for anything in particular and we said that we were just looking around. As we were walking out, she says loudly to the other people that my boyfriend had stuffed his pockets, in which we went back in to explain that we hadn't stolen anything. She was rude and made my boyfriend show her what was in his pockets, and she says apprehensively "okayyy..." like she didn't believe us. One of the people she was talking with kindly explained that they had a bunch of shoplifters and thanked us for coming back to explain the misunderstanding. We are definitely not happy with the passive aggressive behavior of the lady, since we felt like we were profiled for being young Asian adults. However we do appreciate the man that thanked us for coming back. If we were truly shoplifting, why would we come back and explain we didn't steal anything? read more

Good people, only reviewing a low score after noticing damages on my hard case housed 40+ year old acoustic, years after having it set up/restrung at The Strum Shop. There is a massive dent/indent on the top left neck, looks to be from a clamp? And one of tuning key/peg cover, on the back of the neck, is missing, after 40+ years. Timeframe window is long gone, since the repair was done 3+ years ago. It's unfortunate that I just noticed these damages now. Will have to find another luthier, and a replacement tuning peg/key cover. read more

Two gentlemen helped me out with a guitar repair, I believe one of them was named Ian. I brought in my guitar and let them know I was having some buzzing on the high E string; they inspected it immediately and explained what could be causing the issue and how they will try to remedy it. They had a few repairs in front of me, so they advised it'd be ready in an hour or so. They held up their end and gave me a call when the guitar was ready, the issue was resolved, and I was a satisfied with the repair. I appreciated their kindness and professionalism. Oh yaye, I get to review this place from a totally different standpoint now. For the last few months I have had one kid taking violin and the other Ukulele. Jon Gowin has been our Ukulele instructor and my kid thinks the world of him. I have a painfully shy and particular child too, so this spoke volumes. Jon's style is laid back and fun but with structure, so progress is made each lesson. Brien Thorpe is our violin instructor, for the younger kid and he is also a great instructor. Violin is a very difficult and complex instrument so he breaks things down in a way a young child can understand. Molly and Dan have this place running smoothly, both on the scene and behind the scenes (with scheduling/billing etc). They are friendly and flexible, open to changes and requests. I've come to learn that this is a tightly knit music family. I love the vibe here and it draws birds of the same feather. Highly recommend. read more

Bought an Islander MT-4 tenor uke for my niece. Im currently in Kona and had my brother pick the item up in Roseville. Although i shouldve paid thru PayPal which wouldve saved me $20 it was worth it bc I needed the item to be in Sac by Saturday so Im happy that The Strum Shop had it in stock. Molly was assisting me on the phone and she did a superb job! My brother picked up the uke the day after it was purchased and walked out with ease. I found the strum shop through Google, their website was a lot easier to browse and to separate what I was looking for. I went through several websites and was overwhelmed at how unorganized everything was until I came to the Strum Shop. The only reason why i didnt pay online was because I wanted to be sure the store was legit and real lol, also my brother would be driving 40 min to this place. I would definitely suggest this place to anyone that is looking for an uke. They had some updated ukes on their site, i cant speak about the actual location because my service was through networking and phone and it was great, even down to the point where Molly texted me how the uke looked like which assured me, everything is gonna be ok! I took in a used acoustic guitar to be restrung and have a set up. Im a beginner player and dont know anything about guitars. I did know that it had horrible used strings and the action was super high. Guitar came back great! It is really playable now. Im really enjoying learning to play. Nice people. Talk about customer service!! Wow! My husband and I had just come from another guitar store where we were totally ignored. Stood there for 15 minutes waiting for someone to help us. I must have discovered that same formula the invisible man used in that old movie! lol. So we arrived at the Strumm Shop and were greeted by two women at the front desk with great big welcoming smiles on their faces! "Hi, can we help you find something today?" Well, I'm looking for a classical guitar.... there happened to be several of them hanging on the wall just a few feet from me. I was helped and allowed to try out as many guitars as I wanted and was told about each guitar. All of the prices were very reasonable. I went from one guitar to the other strumming and picking and sticking my ear on each one to get the resonance coming from each guitar. They offered to let me use a private room, but I didn't want to schlep a bunch of guitars back with me, so there I stood talking to myself about how each sounded! Long story short (?or not so short?? lol) I picked a beautiful mid price guitar that was made in Spain and it sounds just lovely! They are helpful, friendly and have an excellent selection of ukuleles and other instruments. They offer private lessons, group lessons, concerts, and many free community classes as well. Small shop with a decent selection. I went in for a guitar setup and the store owner helped me out with it for a fair rate. I was really happy with the job as well! He offered to make any adjustments as I saw fit, but I was already happy with the job. The staff are great here.
