A yummy (big) cheeseburger for at least the past 13 years+ that's consistently delicious! What more can you ask for? Well, there's Hershey's dipped Ice Cream and shakes, Icees, a candy wall, pucker powder station and bagged candy. Grill choices include burgers and sandwiches, chicken tenders, tots, and lots of tasty snacks like cheese sticks and nachos . . . The lever was broken so it poured wayyyy more than I wanted. The owner told me I HAD to take it. I paid $26 for candy that I was only going to get maybe $10 worth. She blamed me for not reading the tiny writing on the handle that said the handles are faulty and pour too much. Rude, told me I was threatening her when I said I would dispute the charges. She was the owner, so if she allows that to happen in her store then I can only imagine the experience others will have. Just do yourself a favor and don't go or the broken candy dispenser will aid in their fraud. You cannot tell me that she couldn't take the UNTOUCHED bagged candy back. She knew I'd have to pay for the $26. It's a scam on purpose. Be aware! read more

The best beignets I've ever eaten and grew up in New Orleans! Fresh, hot and a little more dense (not too heavy at all) compared to Cafe Du Monde or Coffee Call in Baton Rouge. Absolutely wonderful customer service. The cook came out and asked was it good and if we needed anything else. The food was absolutely delicious! I've never had anyrhing else like it. My family went in to the store to purchase some candy several minutes before closing. The owner yelled at us, ""We're closed" and ran us (and several people who had been standing in line) out of the store. Definitely wouldn't recommend and will not shop there ever again! read more

This afternoon, we visited The Wharf for the second time this year. One of our favorite places is The Sugar Shack & Cafe. The hand dipped ice cream served here, made in nearby Mobile, AL, is absolutely divine. There is quite a varied assortment of old school candies, too. Several customers were also enjoying sandwiches from the lunch menu. Jacob, the hard-working young gentleman who served us, was so welcoming, polite and helpful. Our entire family was immediately impressed with him. We told him he should be rated a five star employee. We truly enjoyed our experience at The Sugar Shack & Cafe and can't wait to return on our next trip to The Wharf. read more

Food: 2/10 overpriced candy. However, I left my daughter go in for the experience. I actually saw some childhood candy from the 80/90s. But nothing special here. Service: 1/10 rude and stared the entire time. I almost told my daughter let's go! But you know what I didn't. I have the mindset that I don't spend my money where I'm not welcomed. She got a very small bag of candy and I swear it wasn't a .50 pound but we spend the $9. Ambiance: OLD SCHOOL inside / nice on the outside. Stopped in for a snack and was pleasantly surprised that the hotdog was actually pretty good. It was served split down the middle and nicely charred. My partner had a chili dog that he says was tasty. They've also got lots of types of candy and ice cream, hence the name. Didn't have any of that, so no comment on it. read more

Went with a couple of friends and some of them bought ice cream. But as we sat down, we were kicked out because the "others" didnt buy anything. Felt discriminated because we were asians. The shop was empty and we were quiet and respectful, but asked to leave the shop to friends who didnt purchase anything. The candy is ridiculously overpriced to start. $25 for a 5 oz bag of freeze dried skittles and bulk candy that costs $15 a pound. The person working behind the counter was not very friendly and had a staring issue. I watched a little boy accidentally drop some jelly beans on the floor and the guy working the counter came out and picked them up, weighed the dropped jelly beans, and forced the parents to pay! The sugar shack has been my place for an excellent burger since 2014. They have only improved the menu since to offer more variety but I'm here today eating a burger that is out of this world good. My son got the fried chicken sandwich and when he took the first bite he lit up and said "sorry Chick-fil-A the sugar shack wins". Lol he is an avid chicken eater and knows his chicken. The owner is kind and always amicable when I've come in all these years. Come for dessert but if you are hungry don't pass up on the other menu items. I hope they last forever here! read more

Yes, it's a little pricey, but I enjoy giving my money to small businesses. The food was good, and the staff is friendly. It captures the vibe and flavor of an old-fashioned counter service diner, so don't expect gourmet gastropub faire. Sometimes a good burger is just a good burger. Surprisingly good burgers. My office is at The Wharf, so I've made my way around to all the restaurants. The Sugar Shack, surprisingly - is a bright spot in an area/ shopping center with many VERY mediocre restaurants. Try the burger - one of the best on the island. I scoffed after hearing the recommendation from a workmate, but it's no joke. If I have a complaint - they've adopted the "sweet bun" in lieu of a regular buger bun thing that restaurants all appear to be doing all of a sudden, which isn't really my preference. Recommended. We needed something very quick before the start of a movie at the AMC in the wharf. They said no problem and delivered. Came out fast, was very good, and also a good value for the money. We came to the Wharf today while waiting to check-in to our condo. One child in our family has celiac disease and requires a gluten free diet. I asked a simple question about if any of the items on the menu were gluten free that commonly are gf depending on the brand and how they are prepared. (For example, hot dogs or hamburgers without the buns, nachos, taco, etc). I was directed to the manager. She not only acted like she didn't have the time to talk to me (we were the only customers there) but before I could even finish my sentence she answered "NO". I asked her if she knew what brands they served. She informed me Nathan's hotdogs. I informed her these were gf and she just shrugged like she couldn't care less. Needless to say, my family left. The others in our group would have left too in support, had they not already ordered. You would think in a tourist destination they would be more knowledgeable/tolerant/kind to those with legitimate medical conditions that require a modified diet. Very disappointing! read more
