The elevators were extremely slow. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. We had the Coastal King, which included a king bed and a sofa bed. Perfect for 3 adults + 1 kid. The bathroom sink was my only complaint. I had to keep turning off the water to let the water drain. Maybe they need to collab with Draino? The view from our room was spectacular, overlooking the Nanaimo harbour.

The only suggestions are to put bath soap or body wash in the bathrooms (there was shampoo and conditioner but no soap) and to provide additional towels, as we ran out. There was also no paper towels to wipe up any spills, which was annoying. Other than that, we slept well and had a comfortable time.

Overcooked scrambled eggs, a toaster that didn't work very well and took forever to make any toast at all. A waffle maker that a guest told me not to use because it didn't work. We showed up for our reservation with a party of 6 and there was no one at the desk - just a sign that said that there was no receptionist and to call a number. But lo and behold, when you call the number it just rings a cell phone on the front desk! Waited for an hour before a "manager" showed up. His first question was "what time is it?" before attempting the most half-hearted of half-assed attempts to assauge the many angry guests in the lobby. At some point he told all of us that the rooms weren't ready, they won't be ready any time soon, and that it is what it is. Did I mention he reeked of alcohol? After about 10 minutes he seemed he had enough of this whole ordeal and sped off on his golf cart. I counted at least 4-5 other groups, each with probably worse stories than ours. Showed up on time to their reservation, no one responding to them for hours, before an aggressive and confrontational man did. A lady, Erica, finally showed up to try and fix everything that had happened, but you could already see how far south things had gone. The only phone line was being left unmonitored for the entire day (a busy Saturday weekend). Guestrooms that you could literally just walk into, in various states of disrepair, some having been clearly left for multiple days with garbage piling up into the corners. Erica told us her partner, the owners nephew, was coming over to remedy the situation - but that it would still take another 2-3 hours. Erica eventually managed to get us some bedsheets and toiletries. But even after we personally lined all the beds and threw out all the garbage, it was still way too gross to sleep in. So we left. Got back on the ferry, cancelled a weekend trip and just - left. It's crazy. You pay $300+ a night for a room and you get service worse than a dive motel. I'm sorry but avoid avoid avoid. We spoke to multiple people who had come by who all voiced their concern that management had gone extremely south. Owners, if you're reading this - take control of your business before its too late. And Erica, bless your heart - but run far far away from this, for your own sake.

The location is super. Your view is a quiet marina and the mountains and ocean surrounding. See my photo. We got our exercise walking up and down the stairs several times a day to chill on the dock and relax. The hotel rents boats and kayaks but we didn't partake this time. Our room was very spacious and was clean. The king bed was comfy and there was lots of room for luggage. The bathroom was big too and seems fairly recently reno'd. There is a jetted bathtub but unfortunately the night we tried to use it we ran out of hot water before it could fill. The kitchen has a full sized fridge and dishwasher but isn't fully stocked. For example, there were no paper towels, recycling bin, or ice or ice cube tray. We had to buy ice from a bar around the way. The BBQ worked very well! The room was somewhat dated in terms of decor, especially for the price, I would expect a bit more. We used the hot tub daily. The sun deck area has a beautiful view but sadly, only 2 lounge chairs on their last legs. As we treated the trip as "glamping" this was not a huge bother but those expecting a 5 star resort should lower their expectations. Overall, I would return as the setting and vacation was enjoyable for us and we felt very comfortable at the resort. I could have used another day!

I was locked out of the main building twice before we even got all our bags in the room. This doesn't happen at hotels...ever. I tried to get another set of keys but the two staff members I managed to talk to couldn't help and the owner is completely hands off. The manager wasn't there either. I walk with a cane and had to go up and down a flight of stairs just to get some ice as my wife had the only key and she was asleep. Also, this place is NOT handicap accessible. The gravel on the driveway alone is enough to stop a wheelchair before you even get to the front door. Breakfast our first morning was pretty bad. We ordered when we sat down and had a choice of eggs, sausage, fruit bowl and toast..aside from some pretty thin orange juice and coffee that was all. I ordered eggs over medium and got completely hard dry eggs. They seemed confused by "over medium". And the blueberries were small and tart. Meh... The next two morning was a breakfast Buffett..scrambled eggs,sausage, toast, fruit bowl and also cereal and yogurt. Better, but still rather limited.. There was supposed to be a pond, but I didn't even want to get close as the sulfur/bog smell was too strong. And the "tide pool" had perhaps two shellfish and that's it. The weather was nice but a bit warm..if it were hot the ac unit in the room was terrible. Super loud so my wife wouldn't let me turn it on. It was one of those portable units with a flexible hose for the exhaust. Cheap, ugly, loud. A mini split would have been much better. There was a very small kiwi orchard...I was told that the previous owners were very involved in the farm aspect of the property, but the new owners didn't care at all. Evidently just want tourists money. The lamps by the bedside were blinding. The light bulbs stick out above the lamp shade. I had to throw a towel over the light to read at night. I saw more bats than birds, and a few rabbits. Plenty of plants to see, but very few animals. We were there for 3 nights. Luckily, very few insects, and only a couple of mosquitoes. This place really could have been better.

It is situated along Ladysmith Harbor, just beyond the kiwi farm behind the lodge. My room was comfortable and really cute. I also had an amazing view of the kiwi from my balcony. There are multiple entrances and exits, so you don't have to always go to the lobby to go in and out. I enjoyed taking walks behind the lodge, out to the harbor. I saw many birds, some wild bunnies, and felt really relaxed and at peace there. Breakfast was fantastic with friendly service. It was a lot of food! I had 2 eggs, sausage, toast, and a starter which consisted of fruit and yogurt. Doug gave us some a good recommendation for a place to eat since my colleague and I were only there overnight. He also was an excellent host. I would definitely recommend Kiwi Cove Lodge to anyone who likes the bed and breakfast type of atmosphere, or who loves taking walks outdoors. If I am ever in the area again, I'd go back.
