I visited this Marstons Pub on the day after it opened in June. I'll say from the off that the reason for 4 stars as opposed to 5 is the fact that I personally find new built chain pubs a little sterile.
Don't get me wrong, it's very spacious and has all the facilities you'd want as an individual, or a family.
I didn't visit for the surroundings, however, I went craving a lovely pint of Marstons Pedigree & a Carvery and was left wholly satisfied.
I've heard mixed reports since, but I can only comment on the experience I had.
The Marstons beer, as always, was excellent and very refreshing on a Summer's day.
The Carvery was fantastic value. I had a mix of roast beef & gammon with a giant Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, vegetables & cauliflower cheese.
The beef, with a nice dollop of horseradish for spice, was tender. The gammon was flavoursome, the Yorkshire pudding was crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, as were the roast potatoes. The vegetables had that lovely rustic crunch and the cauliflower cheese was very tasty.
You can return for as much of the accompaniments as you can manage to eat.
I can't say that I'm a regular carvery eater in chain pubs, but those I've had vary greatly in quality, sadly.
All I can say, is on this particular day & at this particular time, the food was superb.
As this was the opening week, hopefully standards will be maintained.
I've since been back for another pint of that delicious Marstons Pedigree, it won't be my last! read more
