After 30 years she finally had her Store front Congratulations to The Tamal Lady They accept Zelle!! The place is spacious and the service is great! The food is savory and just right on the spicy! See photos below so you can see just how big the Oaxaqueño Tamal is. I didn't order a regular Tamal bc I wanted to taste the Oaxaqueño ones first and they didn't disappoint! The price for it is $6.06 and it is worth it. It's like having 4 tamales in one. I'll be going back to taste the regular ones. For now my review is only on the Oaxaqueño Tamales.

The renowned tamale lady that used to sell delicious tamales off 21st and Damen now opened up her own brick-and-mortar establishment.

Strawberry tamales, Red pork tamales and large Champurrado (caramelized sugar cane, cinnamon and chocolate drink)
    Mario T.

The former street vendor now has a brick and mortar business. Great portions for the price plus the flavor that others lack on their tamales. The champurrado is as close as to authentic as you can get. Fast and friendly service. Now you can dine in not just carry out. Come check them out on Cermak where the old ice cream place used to be a few doors down from the breakfast place.

In 2019, been to Chicago twice. Twice. Also the number of times I got tamales from The Tamale Lady. Keep this in mind. I live in Southern California. Rain or shine. Or even snow. She's out there. Until she runs out. Heard people line up to get some of her $1.25 singles or $15 dozens. Pork. Chicken. Spicy. Non. I liked them both. I prefer the pork. Decent size for the price. I like the meat to dough (masa) ratio. Not all masa. Vendor operates out of a cart. No table service. No food delivery. Cash only. Limited English. But delicious food. Haven't had their drinks. Yet. Side note: Tamales will warrant an inspection by TSA at O'Hare. Happens when you're carrying two dozen in your carry on.

I have lived in this city my whole life but I have never once stopped in Humboldt Park. Yes I have…read moredriven past it and around it but today I drove through it and did I find some fun, cool and interesting places to eat. My second stop was at Papo's Taco Truck...he had a sign hanging out that said $1 Taco Tuesdays...deal of the day if you ask me. So we stopped by and I noticed that there location was not on Yelp yet, so I decided to add them. The first thing I noticed was how clean the truck was. I also noticed that they could tell I was not one of there regular customers. The staff inside of the truck was so friendly and nice. I love customer service and this location was so welcoming and inviting. We ordered a Relleno de papa...which reminded me of an Italian Riceball. It was a Potato ball that was deep fried and had meat inside of it. It was really good and was not greasy at all. Check out the picture...sorry for the bite but my wife could not resist before I was able to get the photo. She did sell me on the fact that the picture looks better if you can see the yummy meat inside. So I will give her that one. I also had a Sorrullo which was a sweet corn bread that was deep fried with cheese on the inside. I really liked it...it was like a desert and a meal all in one. One of the things I noticed was how clean this food truck was. In fact, the back door was open so you could see directly into the food truck. They have nothing to hide here just there good food. We also met a few customers who were sitting at a table just behind the truck enjoying some lunch. One of the patrons showed me his Jibarito Sandwich. It looked so good...it was grilled steak with grilled onions in between two fired plantains that acted as the bun for this amazing looking sandwich. He even let me take a picture of it...I really wanted a bite but that would have been too much to ask for after just meeting this nice guy. We then started talking food and after a while I found out that this customer was also the owner. He was such a nice guy and told me next time I come back I have to order the Jibarito...I said, "But it isnt on the menu!" And he told me, "Just ask for it!" I love that! It's like knowing the secret menu. I loved meeting the owner because he loves his food truck. He is also one of the newest food trucks in the park...only being here for a year. He first started out with Mexican food but has since also added Puerto Rica Food too. As we talked food we were able to meet another owner of the food truck down the street. He came over for some lunch...talk about respect between the food trucks in the park here. It is like one big happy family and they were so accepting of me and my wife. He also invited us down to his truck to eat but honestly I had no more room to put anymore food. I really feel like I stumbled on some hidden food truck mecca in the park. This truck also has a TV mounted on the back of the truck, so you can check out some TV while you are eating your food at the table. Now I went during the week and it was not that crowded but I heard that on the weekends it can get really crowded with all of baseball and soccer games going on in the park. I am proud to be the first person to find this food truck and add this location to Yelp. Being open for a year and not a single review on Yelp makes me so sad. I also encourage other Yelpers to check out all of these amazing food trucks in Humboldt Park. You can drive around and see all of them out or just stop at each one and start eating. I love Chicago...this new adventure makes me feel like I am in some foreign place...but I am so excited for a new found place to eat in Chicago. I am coming back for that Jibarito!!! And if you never seen one of these delicious and unique sandwiches, then check out my photo of it!!! YUM!!!

I ordered the beef tamales, and they were phenomenal. The beef was incredibly flavorful, the masa had the perfect texture, and there wasn't a single bite that disappointed. They didn't need to drown them in toppings or reinvent the recipe--they just made a really, really good tamale. What I appreciated almost as much was that they seemed to know exactly what they are. No flashy sales pitch, no trying to be trendy. Just good people serving great food from one of the most memorable food trucks around. I'm not a tamale connoisseur, and I'm definitely not one of those people who can tell you what region a recipe came from. I just know when I finish eating something and immediately start thinking about when I can have it again. That's about as high of a compliment as I can give. I'll be back for the beef tamales. Repeatedly. If they ever start a loyalty program based on poor impulse control, I might accidentally become a platinum member.

We've never had better service. From the moment the team got here until the time they left, we felt fully at ease. Blanca headed up the team. She also bartended and was phenomenal. Truly. She was thoughtful, took a leading role in managing our expectations, and made us feel so comfortable. They also helped arrange for tables, chairs, and other rentals which saved us having to source those things ourselves! Our guests could not stop complimenting the food and the service. The menus, presentation, and clean up was so quick and painless. They parked the food truck outside and the whole neighborhood could see the celebration was ongoing! Truly, we didn't know what to expect but as we shared with the team during the party, we will be using this group again and again. We are just so impressed and couldn't be more grateful. Well done, Manny and team!

It was much smaller than previous years with less food choices and fewer authentic vendors and had bad music, at least during the daytime when I went. I usually stay to hear the musical lineups but this was so boring I stayed long enough for the kids to get tacos and look at the 3 shops that were there. They even had some band singing sweet dreams singing the wrong words! I hope the fest will go back the way it was then I'd return. If not I'd say skip it.

I enjoyed listening to various types of performances from rock, DJing, to an amazing musical family band called Cielito Lindo. There is a lot of cultural aspects to this festival including Chinelos, a dance from one of the Mexican regions. It was so much fun to participate in! There are various businesses from Pilsen area that participate to sell food including Taqueria y Restaurant El Buen Valle, which had delicious tacos, and had tons of drink options like agua fresca and alcohol.
