My daughter and i had a late lunch here. Place was clean and the servers were nice. You order at the front and you can see what they have on offer for the day, cafeteria style. I got a cheese chile relleno and my daughter got the chilaquiles w/green sauce and rice and beans. After, we sat down at a table. The lady brought us water, napkins and utensils. A few minutes later, she brought out our food. The first thing i tasted was the chile relleno sauce which was bursting w/flavor. Then i took a bite of the relleno itself. Lightly fried and a good amount of cheese, it was delicious. Very authentic to what i know of latin food. My daughter never had chilaquiles, but she loved it. Said it was really good and enjoyed the rice and beans as well. Bring cash or be prepared to pay a 3.99% surcharge to cover the cost of your credit card. Came here because it is my girlfriend's childhood restaurant, we ordered then sat down on our table. My in laws were excited as well but as we were chatting we saw people getting their food first before us. Then as we started to look more concerned the busser is the only employee who checked in with us. We finally got our drinks because of him. Waiter was nowhere to be seen. As waiter came to the table we received dirty napkins and spoons. When food finally arrived, it was cold so we had to wait a couple more minutes. Just my worst experience for my first time here. My burrito LITERALLY didn't have meat Also! The owner was a table behind us and I bet he was hearing us talk shit about this place and didn't say nothing. He was giving the VIP service to his buddies and the buddies were selling perfumes. He kept spraying cologne and perfume while customers were eating. I was eating at a Macys. HORRIBLE!!! This place is great comfort food. I usually go for the breakfast tacos, grab and go before work. When I get to sit and eat, I go with the Chorizo & Eggs with rice and beans. On the weekends they have a decent menudo too. Tamales are okay, they sell them by 3x or by the dozen. Servers are obviously over worked, just aren't enough folks serving food and waiting tables. While the food is good the service is not. I am in the middle of placing my order but the lady ditches me and starts helping the person behind me. Um how about finishing what you started with me? Why'd another worker have to finish what you started? It was very obvious at that point that she preferred serving the Spanish speaking customers. On top of that, why are you checking people's temperatures after they have already been inside for at least 5 minutes or so. By then the damage has already been done. That's supposed to be down upon entry. It's very apparent this is just another check box for you. What's the point of having all these signs if you're not gonna practice the safety guidelines properly? There was an elderly man sitting at a chair for at least 10 minutes not having his face covered at all and not one word from the employees. Saying "they didn't see him" isn't acceptable when I saw them clearly make eye contact with him and speak with him. Just another place in Chicago where all the safety signs posted are all just for show. Customer safety isn't a priority here, money is. Let me know when you actually got your act together. Being from Southern California, I've struggled to find good tacos in Chicago but I've finally found my place! The tacos de asada here were so flavorful and juicy and were very obviously freshly cooked and the rice and beans were an obvious perfect pairing. You can order your food to go or eat it in the restaurant and will pay after you're done eating. They do have table service after you order at the counter, with water, chips, and salsa coming pretty quickly after you sit down. So glad I found this place and can't wait to be back to try other menu items - I was eyeing the pozole that another patron had and will definitely be ordering it the next time I'm here! read more

Yes, this was a hole in the wall, with authentic decor and vibe. Unfortunately I am presenting my review with 2 stars as the food lacked flavor and depth. The barbacoa taco I had was very greasy and season-less; if you are looking for a kick to your salsas, this won't be it. The rice had a mushy texture, and the chips seemed to be packaged, not fresh. I know and understand how hard it is to run a restaurant, I will end positively with the fact that even though the Al pastor taco did not have its traditional pineapple garnish, I do know that it was made to order fresh. I love local establishments, especially within my Latino community, and do hope that value can be found in my review for future improvements. read more

The quantity of the food is not the same. The beans do not taste like the original from many years ago. Some of the newer employees are not as attentive as previous older employees. I lived on Loomis street and used to go to this place for many years! After moving I came here to continued to enjoyed the food. I had originally tried to be adventurous and try the "torta de Cameron" which is wet shrimp bread in salsa with nopales. My mom recently went to this place. In the morning; she goes very often because her job is near by and even shops at their grocery store almost every day. 2 employees were very rude to her when she asked about how long the order would take. That's a reasonable question to ask when you're ordering food, especially in the morning and are on the way to work. One lady told her "I don't know. How ever long it takes to cook" and the other lady working there told the first rude employee "tell her you're not a psychic" Is this how you treat your regular customers? This is a small hole in the wall type of place, nothing fancy but a lot of heart and soul. There are definitely a team of abuelas (grandmothers) in the back making some delicious authentic Mexican food. When you walk in it is cafeteria style and you have to walk up and order. They will accommodate anything you want to eat. You can mix and match and it pretty much a Buffett style. You can also order off the menus but once you see the spread you will not want the menu. The waitresses are very nice and they do come by the table and will wait on you after you sit down. My group and I all shared and made it family style. They have some of the best champurrado and tamales you can find in Pilsen. The only thing that takes away from the experience is having to line up cafeteria style to get food. Generally I will stop in for a drink or some tamales that are located right by the cashier (grab and go items), but for whatever reason they make you wait behind everyone waiting for food on the other side. What would take 2-3 minutes ends up being 10 sometimes 15. There's been excruciatingly cold days I've considered running in to grab some and risk the next bus not coming for another hour. I know they can't fix the CTA bus but if they could make their lines more flexible that would be a game changer. read more

It's my mother's birthday and we need to buy the ingredients that we need to prepare the food for the party. We shop here in La Casa del Pueblo because it's near our house. It's spacious and clean. You can see a lot of sections for a different variety of food and drinks. It's well organized and fully stocked.   We started finding the ingredients we needed. The staff help us to easily find the ingredients. We bought the ingredients of salad, carbonara, spaghetti, macaroni and chicken. We also bought wine and beers for the party later. Everything we need is already in La Casa del Pueblo. Because we bought a lot, the staff helped us push the cart and helped us put it inside the car. So for being helpful we tip him and he thanked us.  I highly recommend this grocery store not only because of the variety of food but because of the good customer service.
