I noticed that after she applied the hot wax, she walked away to get the waxing strips, which allowed the hot wax to burn onto my eyelid. She should have had the strips ready instead to immediately apply. The next two mornings of having a sore spot on my eyelid, a red scar appeared, which may eventually fully scar permanently. Also, when I asked her to trim my eyebrows she recommended not to have that done because she said the brow hairs would stick out. I routinely get my eyebrows waxed and never have I heard someone say that or refuse to trim because trimming is an essential step in shaping. That kind of threw me off... I just hope my eyelid heals.

It is true that strip wax is…read moremarginally less painful than normal waxing but, let's face it, waxing is- and will never be- pain free. That said, if I must put myself through torture there is no better place to do so (although Ministry of Waxing on South Molton St is comparable). The rooms are all individually decorated and the place has nice, thoughtful touches like sanitary products in the loo and baby wipes in the rooms. I've been using Strip since it opened over three years ago and I've almost never had the same therapist (admittedly, I've never asked for the same girl as I'm not good with names!) The skills and attention to 'wax detail' varies a lot so if you find a therapist who does a good job, I'd ask for her by name the next time you book and appointment. It's not very cheap. I'm on a second set of a courses (from memory, buy six, pay for five) but once the course I'm on is done I won't be getting another one. The thing I liked (note past tense) was that one could use the course at any of the branches. Since Strip has expanded into the City and West End, however, they've stopped allowing courses to be used across branches which makes it much less convenient for me as I liked to have the choice of going to a branch near home or near work. I believe this is because the branches are franchised out. But, honestly, should that be the customer's problem??

I was seriously considering downing a double whiskey but: A: apparently it is frowned upon to drink alcohol before you have had breakfast B: I really don't like whiskey I entered the salon and was greeted by Balo, this beautiful woman with a warm smile. She showed me to the room and asked me to get ready. As I took my clothes off I thought to myself: don't let her kind smile deceive you Alex, she is about to cause you some serious pain. She entered and soon after Operation Hair Elimination started. Now I'm not saying I didn't feel anything; I was stone cold sober remember. But Balo had this incredible way of making me think about everything else but that hot way on my skin. During the session we talked about Camden Market, the history of Afghanistan and the different dialect of Nigeria (thank you Wikipedia for making me sound like an intellectual!) and before I knew it, it was over! Balo was so thorough; not a single hair to be found. I would be lying if I said that my dislike for waxing is now gone; but at Phoenix Beauty Point it feels like a beauty treatment and not torture. I would definitely go again and I would recommend it to a friend. I also had my nails done with them the following day and she did a great job. It's not in the same place as the beauty parlour, it's about 50yds down the road in a salon. My nails (false ones, french tipped) are amazing. They have survived my big day and don't feel like they're going anywhere soon! Thank you ladies!!
