I'm really not sure what happened this past summer. I had used Mark and Tammi for my returns in 2016 and had very little issue with their customer service. I submitted my taxes in September and had them done three weeks later in October. So I told my new wife they were awesome and saved me a lot of money and were even willing to have our back in the event of an audit. So we switched from her accountant to Mark. I felt like the man! Then came the embarrassing and emasculating events of last summer. We bought a house in April, so we filed for extension. We gave our tax info to Mark in May with the expectation that we would have them done in July. No problem, he said, We'll have them done in June! We didn't hear back from him after multiple phone calls and emails until late July. Finally we received our taxes back but and I'm hoping they are correct. Maybe something happened with their health or a family emergency but, they never told us. All we got was radio silence. Given the state of disarray at their office I was really concerned that they lost our taxes entirely. If something is going on with them I sincerely wish them the best, but don't risk people's financial lives if you can't be healthy enough to manage it. Mark Mannhalt and the NW Tax & Accounting group are GREAT! I walked in, dropped my stuff off, talked with Tammi for a minute... Tammi is super helpful and walked me through the process. Mark was able to tell me how much to add to my IRA to lower my self-employment tax by a considerable amount, and he went through my old returns to see if there was anything we might have missed that would also help reduce my payable taxes. Last year, I went with a recommendation on the cheap, and the lady who ended up doing them filed without my husband's W2 - a SIGNIFICANT part of our income. She also told me that I didn't owe quarterlies in the first quarter because of my husband's income. Mark and Tammi outlined how much I should be paying quarterly in self-employment income tax so as not to incur payment penalties. The greatest part? Bam. Taxes done. No stress, no fuss. A couple emails and the security of knowing that this guy knows his stuff. A+ for my neighborhood tax joint. read more

I have had the good fortune to have Mark Mannhalt help me prepare my taxes and give accounting advice for the last 12 years -- he is friendly, very professional, always has helpful advice and eases away any stress and worry about taxes. I will never return to have my taxes done by Mark. I wish I could give him zero stars. We told Mark and Tami we had a deadline to get our taxes done and the deadline came and went with them telling us "it will be done tomorrow" and it never was. Mark has done our taxes for the last 2 years. We realized this summer that he had spelled our daughter's last name wrong our our taxes, resulting in the IRS asking us to refund our child's deduction a ($9,500 refund!) We called and emailed for the interior month of June and heard nothing back. Luckily we were able to fix the error but only after the IRS threatened to put a lien on our house, and the IRS finally letting us update the error instead of Mark. Since June we have reached out so many times, even stopping by the storefront and they have never gotten back to us. read more

Mark the accountant was good, and helped a lot, but after I left the office my taxes were never actually filed. I called a few weeks later to follow up and the admin lady told me that she had mailed me some documents that I needed to sign and mail in myself in order to actually file my taxes. I never received ANYTHING from them in the mail. Moreoever, when I left the office in the first place I asked if they needed anything else from me, and they told me that I was all set and my taxes would be filed right away, and I could expect my refund in about a month. I never received anything from them in the mail and am so irritated, as I was really depending on receiving the refund quickly. Instead of getting my refund in 21 days as the IRS says, it will now be 6 weeks for physical processing PLUS all the weeks I lost when they didn't mail me the packet to sign and mail in myself. As they charged rather a lot, I was deeply disappointed with this experience. read more

When we set up the appointment at the beginning of February, we were told that we would have all three returns filed and we only received two on April 11th, 2015. Given some unfortunate health circumstances on their part, we were told that they would still file our taxes (after not reaching out to us to tell us that our appointment had been cancelled). The lack of communication and customer service has been appalling, a simple email or phone call saying that you couldn't do the taxes would have sufficed. We have literally had to show up at the business establishment after not getting returned phone calls or emails. Now I will not have to opportunity to have the 2010 return filed at the same time as the current ones. I do know that the older one would take a lot more time to be evaluated than the current ones, but I still expected to have then both done at this time. Form costs were never discussed, $150.00 for what I usually do at home in 5 minutes... Live and learn! read more

I had a very similar experience to what Kurt described in his post. My sympathies go out to the owners for the unfortunate state of their health . However, the lack of communication made my experience in getting my tax return complete far more complicated and time consuming than necessary. read more
