Basic, functional, and fine for a quick work trip. I came here for work, and it was exactly what I needed...just a room to hold my luggage and give me a place to sleep. Nothing more, nothing less. There's a strict no-visitors policy after 10pm, which gave off a slightly sketchy vibe and made me wonder what kind of crowd this hotel usually gets. That said, I had no issues during my stay. The location is solid, with some great food options nearby. The hotel itself, though, lacks any real personality or charm. Getting off the Rocky Mountaineer, paid for this place through them. Web says standard rate of $70 per night, yikes. Be prepared to lower your expectations. When you pay over $7,000 for a party of 3 to ride a train I expect at least a chocolate of the Belgium kind to be on my pillow next to the hunk of a man that is a debonair tree logger or a lovely cannabis rancher. I speak in Jest about a man in the room, just good chocolate. This place had nice staff to welcome us with a sign on the desk stating no check ins after 10, say what? Agatha Christie wrote about this place possibly. It may have been built back in the stone age, way outdated, the dinky cupboards in the room were there for a purpose in someone's imagination, configuration was not HGTV fixable, 3-4 feet above my head. I shared an adjoining room, with a similar poor layout but no cupboards that were not within their reach. My double bed was squashed in the teeny room, no nightstand available because a murphy bed opened up into my bed. How does that work? Beats me. Disgusting to hear road noise all night which is in the same category of snoring. One good thing was they had a tub so I could soak for an hour. Did not feel safe, disappointed that Rocky Mountaineer would stoop so low for their guests. FYI, perhaps it is all Kamloops could offer, but me thinks not. I stayed here mainly, because I got sucked in from the photos on the website of the pool, which looked awesome. That,and they had a 2 bedroom suite at a decent rate, and they were located Downtown. We arrived late Thursday night. Check in was quick and easy, but when we got to our room, that was all it was - a room, not a suite. We went back and quickly got keys to the new room. Now yes it did have 2 rooms, but it wasn't much of a suite . There was no sofa or separate seating section. Just a bed and one chair (with dresser & mini fridge) in the main one, and just a bed that took up most of the room in the other. The room, as well as the entire hotel was really in need of some updating. In the morning, they served free breakfast. It was downstairs in a large room with tables and chairs. It consisted of sausages, eggs, bread, bagels, pastries, muffins, yogurt, cereal, juices, milk, coffee, tea & a make-your-own-waffle iron. There were also bananas and apples. It was decent, but after 3 days of the same thing I was pretty sick of it. They also have a 24/7 business centre that's in the lobby In a small glass room. It had 2 computers, a printer and some books. The pool and hot tub are just steps down off the lobby. To get there, you go through a fairly large games room. It had pool, air hockey, and some other games as well as some bleachers for people to sit on and cheer on the action ?? The best part was the 4 large extremely comfy leather sofas that had 2 large TVs above them. This entire game room was open 24/7 along with the gym. The pool however closed at 11 pm. It was rather chilly, but the hot tub was super warm. The first day it was great, but a few days later it was super scummy and we had to let management know. The day after this it was closed down -and had a grim yellowish colour! We booked our first few nights on booking.com. When we wanted to extend, the hotel quoted us a price higher then what hotels.com had it listed for. They did a price match after we brought this to their attention. All in all, our stay was pleasant, but in no way the type of accommodations I am used to. I think next time if I had to return to Kamloops, I would probably stay somewhere a bit more upscale like Sandman Signature. But that's just me I guess. Solid 3/5 read more

I've stayed in Kamloops approximately 25 nights a year for several years. Because of the Memorial Cup my usual hotels were booked or very $$, so I tried Thompson. I'm trying to be fair but I got a $100 parking ticket for parking in the lot they told me to park in, albeit apparently I was too far left or right (I cant recall). Called them and they refused to do anything. Hotel is dated, not well maintained but rooms were fine given the price but if you add in the parking ticket the value is not there. read more

This hotel presented a bad first impression with awkward parking, a long line at check in, and the front desk clerk informing me that the room that I booked was not available. The clerk was not welcoming or apologetic, and he made it seem as though it was my problem that the room was not available. He eventually downgraded me to a basic room at the price that I had booked online. Upon entry to my room, I discovered stained pillow cases and towels. Also, there was a used band-aid sitting beside the hot tub. During the night, the room shakes whenever a train passes. Despite these major turn-offs, this is not a horrible hotel option. The mattress was comfortable and the sheets high quality. The room itself was very clean. The pool and hot tub have extended opening hours. The complimentary breakfast is a nice bonus, and the staff at the breakfast were cheerful and en pointe. I've detailed the food offerings below this review. This wouldn't be my first pick for a hotel in Kamloops, primarily due to the front desk staff and poor customer service. The Thompson Inn has all of the elements of a great hotel; however, the level of service needs to be improved. I would not have stayed here by choice. This hotel was chosen by Rocky Mountaineer. It was like a flash back to the late 80's. The toiletries were in large bottles, so it looked like it was for multiple uses, like in a locker room. No Thank you! Luckily it was just 1 night. They had free wifi, so that's good. I don't know if I would stay here again. Then again, I don't know if I would ever return to Kamloops. It was a pass through for us. read more

I am so disappointed about the birthday party. The children expressed it was the worst birthday they've ever had. Im still in disbelief about how awful it was. Never in my life have I experienced such a massacre of event coordination on the behalf of a company. If I could give a zero I would. I can't even go through all the details because it's so upsetting. Future post to come with details. Not only was their website not up to date or accurate but it took me two hours on the phone with an Expedia agent before the would honour their reservation and then "upgraded" me from a deluxe King suite to "double queen with a view" I'm travelling ALONE and Booked the suite I Wanted which was A KING so it was not an upgrade it was an unwanted Down grade and the view was A PARKINGLOT from the second floor!!!! And don't even get me started on the "games room" that consists of 6 arcade games that I watched two separate families use and NO ONE SANITIZED ANY OF IT??!!!?? read more

Stopping in Kamloops was a horrible, horrible idea this summer. I came into the city during fire season only to find out that the PM 2.5 air quality was over 400, when the recommended safe levels are less than 30. However, the hotel was a fairly reasonable place to live in, even while the city itself was in poor shape due to the wildfires. Wi-Fi here was fast and fairly consistent, and the hotel rooms were of decent quality. The showers were somewhat scruffy and dirty, and the sheets felt like they were changed haphazardly but the room had comfortable sheets, plenty of towels, and provided soap and other basic necessities. The water pressure in the room was fine (we were on the 2nd floor) and I was able to sleep through the night with no issues. Breakfast here was not as good as it could have been, definitely not a top notch continental breakfast but filling, at least. The room was a little cramped and the dirty dishes were just placed messily on a tray instead of properly dealt with, but overall good breakfast - waffles, bagels, milk, yogurt, etc. The place has parking, I can't recall if it was free or not, but there were plenty of spots, both in the underground garage and the outdoor parking lot in the back. Not a bad place to go in a pinch, but I would only recommend to people who are driving through kamloops if they need to stop. read more

Booking went thru online by accident. Supposed to be a summary page to review before but there was not! I contacted them IMMEDIATELY and they still charged me. They said "too bad" drove by after and it was super sketchy! Exactly what I expected after their reply. Parking is inpark with no security and very sketchy people around. When checking in the two fellas seemed very confused an overwhelmed. We only stayed one night, but it is nothing like the pictures they use. When we got to our room, it was clean, but certainly dated, could use some updating. We booked a 2 bedroom suite, and was nothing like the photos at all. Although there were tvs in both rooms, there was only one remote (i know nothing to complain about lol) We did call for another remote and were told someone would be up but no one came. There were no glasses or plastic cups in the room. The bar fridge seemed to keep a good temperature. I would say overall the hotel is quite wheelchair accessible and the sink in the room was about my waist height, and I am only 5'2 so I could see it being cumbersome for a taller person. The swimming pool was quite small although the hours were good 7am-11pm, the hot tub, was adequately warm, and your usual size. The games room was quite big, with pool tables and foosball and air hockey as well. The breakfast that comes with your stay was decent, with a variety of juices, milk, coffee fruits, breads, yogurt, waffles *make yourself, eggs and sausages. Parking, you have to pay for, but it is cheaper as a guest, it was 8$ for the night. There were however, many restaurant choices within walking distance which was nice. The train yard is adjacent to this hotel, so if trains are not your thing, I would venture away for this location. read more

We found The Thompson Hotel & Conference Centre on booking.com as the deal of the day and booked it online 15 minutes prior to our arrival. At the check in the friendly lady already had the booking confirmation printed and all room keys were ready to be given to us. The room was not as big as we expected it but the interieur was nice and it was clean. Secure parking is included in thhe rate and selfparking is underneath the hotel. We have chosen this hotel as we wanted to relax in the spa area after the long 6 hour drive on the Trans Canada Highway coming from Calgary. The hotub and the pool were as we expected it to be, clean and relaxing. We had as well a cool time in the game room playing pool, minibasketball and, of course, air hockey. After a relaxing sleep in the cozy beds we started the day with a good breakfast in the dining room and the lady there was really making us feel welcome. All after all The Thompson Hotel & Conference Centre is worth to stay in although the shape of the building is causing long ways from the lobby to the rooms and on the way you'll get frozen twice or three times by the aircon. read more

Needed a place to crash after a long drive from Edmonton, heading towards Vancouver. This place has decent nightly rates and was able to give us a small bit amazingly appreciated discount after learning that we only needed to stay for 8 or so hours to sleep. This was a great value for my family at only $116 a night as we traveled across western Canada this summer. The staff were super helpful and pleasant and were able to direct us to places to eat when we arrived late at night after 14 hours of driving. We were also pleasantly surprised that the pool was open from 7 am to 11 pm so that our tired and stir crazy kids could catch some much needed time in the pool before bed. My 10 year old was also super happy to see they had a game room with free foozball, air hockey and inexpensive pool tables. Other reviews have said the decor was dated but it was just fine and perfectly clean in my opinion. Nice to have four pillows of varied firmness to choose from as well. I really appreciate that. The free breakfast was also way more generous than we'd expected with omelettes, boiled eggs, waffles, cereals, fruit, yogurt, coffee/tea, and fresh juices. It was also pleasant to find fresh creamers in out already cold room fridge for in room coffee. read more
