We gave it a try, as it seemed pretty popular here. All the tables were pretty much occupied. The tables were small and wooden with little stools to sit on. I ordered the Burnout ($12.70): This consisted of a char-grilled chicken breast with bacon, lettuce, avocado, mustard, aioli sauce, and a stilton sauce. The breast was kinda thin, but the bun was pretty huge. It was a soft sesame seed bun that actually held up quite well. It did get kind of messy halfway through eating it, but we were told by one of the workers about how this little cardboarthing called the Doofer. This doofer was an intuitive piece of cardboard that you fold up, and it cradles your burger. Pretty cool, as it totally helped out. No issues with service. The girl behind the counter was humorous and cordial. She was even the one that explained how a doofer is used. Would I come back? Yes, probably just to try a different burger. But the next time I've got that "burger craving", I probably won't be thinking about this place in particular.

The food took about 15 mins to finish and we were out of there. They did have tomato sauce, as well as garlic aoli sauce, free to take as much as you want. I ordered the White Lady, which is one of their signature burgers. It had a beef patties, Scotch steak, Colby cheese, bacon, fried egg, grilled pineapple, fried onions, lettuce, and tomato. It sounded like a ton of ingredients, but I figured I had to try their namesake burger. I had taken my food back to my hotel, which was only about a 10-15 minute walk back. Understandably, the burger was a bit soggy. That wasn't the worst part though. My main gripe with this burger though, was the Scotch steak. It was probably my fault for not entirely knowing what a Scotch steak was. The steak was chewy and I was NOT able to bite it off each time I took a bite of the burger. After a couple bites struggling to separate the steak from the rest of the burger, I ended up just taking the steak out and eating it with a fork and knife. I cannot understand why you would put something on a burger if it cannot be bitten off solely with your teeth. It goes against the point of having something handheld. On top of that, the steak was very bland. The burger patties itself was okay, nothing amazing. I come from the United States, the home of fatty foods and the best burgers, so maybe I just have high standards. For me, this place was a one and done just to see what the hype was about.

It is all very impressive and very beautiful. We spent a good 15 minutes admiring the decor and its intricate details. We expected great things. From the new Winter menu we had the Shared Plate (tempura prawns, serrano ham croquettes, Szechuan salt n pepper squid, pork belly caramelised apple $49). The croquettes are out-of-the-world amazing. So. Incredibly. Delicious. The salt n pepper squid though was a terrible letdown. The batter was hard, thick, stale and flavourless. We sent this feedback back to our waiter who tried time and time again to justify it. It felt like they were trying to prove us wrong. The market fish risotto ($34) and the wild boar ragout ($33) were the best of the four mains we had. But at that price we've had better. The kingfish ceviche had an overwhelming amount of sauce, it was way too sour and you couldn't taste anything else on the plate (and usually I am a big fan of sour things!). We'll probably go back for those heavenly croquettes and a drink for a chance to sit in those beautiful booths and enjoy the atmosphere.

As this was my first visit, I decided to order the largest burger on the menu (the Bastard) as a Low Carborator, which is nice because bread tends to get in my way when I eat. The Bastard is a grass-fed beef patty with cheese, avocado, mango, and beetroot, and the Low Carborator version nixes the bun for a lettuce wrap. Whilst this makes for a tad bit of messy eating, they include special boxes so that your burger patty doesn't go anywhere when you bite into it. So juicy. Soooo tender. Almost made me wish I ate bread (struggling Paleo). I also ordered a side of kumara fries, because burgers and fries just go hand in hand. I believe these were the purple kumara fries, as opposed to the typical orange kumara you see in most restaurants. The difference, I noticed, is that the purple kumara (which turns yellow once you cook it) tends to be more substantial in taste, almost heavy tasting. All in all, tasty burger joint, but I will have to come back and try their vegetarian onslaught, which include tasty looking bits made of pumpkin, chickpeas, ginger, and other goodies.
