Loved this cute little thrift shop in a quiet neighborhood in Alameda. We stopped by while in the area and luckily found cheap street parking right around the corner. A quaint store with good lighting and friendly staff, this thrift shop isn't big but does curate a nice little collection - I saw cute tops, dresses, scarves, handbags, and jewelry. Everything was tidy and in its right place. I'm not sure if there's a dressing room since I didn't use one, but there are plenty of mirrors around the store that you can use. Bonus: all proceeds go towards their affiliated animal rescue! I picked up a patterned skirt and T-shirt here for less than $20, and my friend got a few items as well. Checking out was easy breezy, and they let us know that they're able to take most donations (though if you have anything large, best to call in ahead of time). All in all, not much more I can ask for a pleasant thrifting experience. read more

I love going in to admire the wonderful second hand, new to me, items at Thrifty Kitty! I often buy the pet items but I have also bought jewelry and next to new clothing as well as a few kitchen items. It's my way of recycling, saving money and helping a good cause all at the same time! The volunteers are always so kind and the staff is always helpful. The best part is knowing they're there to help the Alameda animal shelter ! Similar to Diggity Dog on Pacific and Webster! Stumbled upon this store as I was walking around the island. Great selection inside with some designer brands like Roberto Cavalli and Theory. Wildly overpriced at times but well curated thrift shop. Current clothing, vintage porcelain bits and bobs, costume and artisanal jewelry. Nearly everything is in pristine condition. Lovely employees, imperious (think Queen Charlotte of Bridgerton) manager that gleans the best for herself. Regardless, it all rolls along and funds the local animal shelter. read more

Friends of Alameda Animals Shelter (FAAS) is the organization operating this thrift store. They have been opened since July 1, which is about two weeks ago. After seeing the ad, I decided to browse and see what kind of items they were selling. Wow! All their merchandize is beautifully displayed. I am totally impressed. There is an assortment of tops, blouses, slacks, dresses, scarves, women's accessories (jewelry, purses), household items. The Longchamps 6-pc. crystal glasses were nice to look at. However, I have no place in my home for storing them. Yes, I did see something I like very much - a cream colored canvas tote bag for my shopping needs - and the price was reasonable ($12 plus tax). The bag had my name on it (just kidding) and I was not leaving Thrifty Kitty empty handed. After paying for it, a donation was placed in the birdcage next to the front counter. I love this thrift store since it is within walking distance from my home. Oh, it is so convenient and a neat place to visit and shop. I love shopping at Thrifty Kitty! The manager, assistant manager, and staff are all so nice and welcoming. They have a good selection of clothes, shoes, handbags, scarves, books, home decor, pet items and lots of fun jewelry and the pricing is very fair. Although the store is a thrift shop, it feels more like a boutique. It is nicely laid out and decorated and they always have a nice seasonal or holiday display at the front of the store. It's such an enjoyable experience just to browse through all the items in the store. They are always accepting donations and I am a frequent donator. The best part about shopping at this store is that all the proceeds go to FAAS (Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter) and it's a good feeling to be helping such a worthy local non-profit. read more

The store has a wonderful assortment of reasonably priced merchandise. Beautiful clothes and accessories! LOVE every haul. For the most part, staff and volunteers are friendly but there is a nasty unwelcome from some staff toward certain customers. I think on an occasion or two, the customer they were rude to should've pushed back and corrected that behavior immediately. There is disrespectful conversation about customers after they leave, unkind comments about customers in the back of the store employee/inventory area, and colleagues don't hold them accountable. Certainly no words of correction were heard in the same decibel as the words of disrespect. Any public apologies and familiar, "we here at such&such establishment don't condone xyz behavior and want ALL customers to feel welcome..." afterward are moot because adults and especially retired volunteers know better and their politeness should not be selective.These are dangerous times to be relying on other peoples civility and belief that such lack of manners won't be met with aggressive correction, and a well deserved verbal lashing--mind your manners at all times. I've considered stepping in once, but I think this climate makes teachable moments of implicit bias, and subtle disrespect difficult, especially when it's evident there is an allowance for the subtly rude or subtly discriminatory mannerisms. It's a nicely inventoried space for a super great cause, it just needs a team meeting to remind staff that it costs nothing to be kind to everyone--especially customers who are polite to them and the more dopamine felt from thrifting, the more contributions to the animal shelter! read more

A true gem of Alameda! I've shopped here and loved it! They have a variety of items and styles available. They have a legit changing room too so you can try on items before you purchase. I scheduled my appointment a few days in advance, and today I was greeted with a smile by a caring staff member. I was able to offload several bags of clothing. This is a huge win for me and for my closets. I love that the proceeds contribute towards cat rescue! They are short on space so I wasn't able to give them my two boxes of mostly housewares. Pro tip: schedule your Thrifty Kitty drop off time slot a bit before Goodwill's 2pm donation cut off time and you can go there right after with anything they can't use. Adopt don't shop!! I went in looking for accessories to go with my dress for a wedding I was attending, and the volunteers picked out the best jewelry and Steve madden shoes for me! Also found the perfect shirt for my man. Everything is perfectly priced to sell and the best part is all the proceeds go to the animal shelter! What an amazing find! This thrift store has a ton of amazing products at incredible prices! The folks volunteering there were kind and helpful. I discovered Thrifty Kitty because a friend volunteers there, and I was curious! I'm getting a puppy in 6 days, and having fun finding some useful items for the early days. The first time I went to Thrifty Kitty I got a beautiful dog step stool, with 4 steps, wooden with carpeted steps, perfectly sized for a puppy. Although I don't want the dog on my bed, I think this is good for training, and the wood is almost the same color cherry as the bed! And a great deal! $20, brand new. Today I found a "Magic Gate," another item I need to keep the dog in the room until he's trained not to go into the other room. Only $5! Brand new, perfectly good items, and useful. I've bought things for me, too! The prices are all good, everything that's been used are clean and in very good condition. Alameda is lucky to have another well-curated, well-priced thrift store. I recommend Thrifty Kitty to everyone. read more

I LOVE the Thrifty Kitty and try to get over there often for a quick therapeutic/recreational/treasure hunting session! You can tell that the staff and volunteers really care about the shop (and the animals that benefit from this store!) because special attention is given to creating a fun, tidy, colorful, boutique-like shopping experience.
