I love this shop! I brought in about 20 CD's to sell and they bought them all for a good price - when does this ever happen?? The staff is very friendly and helpful. While here, I picked up Jennifer Egan's A Visit From the Goon Squad in excellent condition for $5 bucks. They also have a great selection of DVD's. This is such a cute shop! So vintage-y. The staff is always sweet and helpful. I LOVE the book selection and the fact that most books are under $5!! Shopping here has grown my book-interest repertoire. I'm more willing to try a new genre when I can get a book for $4! I've found so many classic Agatha Christie books (a childhood favorite). There are also DVDs and CDs for $1!!! I haven't tried selling yet myself, but I heard you get some $ back if that's what you want, OR you can receive more money if you get credit towards the store. Will definitely come back here- I'll check in every time I grab a coconut from Spice I A. I get lots of books for my students! read more

Update: It's 10+ years later and this is still the best used bookstore in town. Go buy some used books right now. Owned by a very nice couple active in their (your) community. If you like books, then it's your responsibility to support your local used bookstore. If you need a new book but don't know which one, then grab an ice cream cone at Tucker's next door and wander around until 1 or 10 jump off the shelf and into your hand. Read, repeat. I love this store! It is the perfect place to round out some time on Park St - they have curated finds that will surprise you. The board game you played with your family through the early 80s? The famous book on meditation your therapist recommended you buy but you don't actually read? Vinyl upon vinyl record so that you can look cool when your date comes over? They have books, music, vintage clothing, little giftables, all in a chill environment for browsing with lovely people behind the desk. They have a healthy children's book section as well where you can pick up well known titles in perfect condition for a tiny fraction of what they'd cost you new across the street. Go! I was strolling down Park Street and the cart of books caught my eyes. What surprised me the most these books are the best sellers/current hypes... maybe 12 months after the craze. I love this store, and I am a regular customer. But be warned: A LOT OF THE USED DVDs THEY SELL ARE DAMAGED OR DEFECTIVE, AND WON'T PLAY. (Unfortunately, I often don't find out until weeks or months after I make my purchase.). I don't know if they offer refunds, but I suspect that they do not if you don't have a receipt, and I generally will not have one if weeks or months have passed from the date of purchase. Lovely cheerful atmosphere. It incorporates everything that makes my little private world ie old books, vinyls and vintage clothes. For the latter, special mention to the gorgeous winter coats and their drop dead gorgeous buttons. On my days off I love to go thrifting. It's what I do, especially around this time of the year. I love alameda, and I love the location of the store. Alameda's little midtown is how I describe it. Yesterday being my first time there I immediately loved the set up. There were books to my left and clothing to my right before I went inside. They have some pretty good pieces of unique clothing in right now as well. Their DVD selection is eclectic and cheap. *growing up I loved Blockbuster and Hollywood Video, so it was a little nostalgic for me.* Anywho let me tell you about the book selection that I adore!!!! All of the books are under $5. Super cheap. Along with them being cheap the books are organized by genre. How neat! It made it easy to find anything. Whenever I go thrifting I never go in looking for something in particular, but if it grabs my attention you better believe I'm leaving with something :) Long story short, I'll definitely be back. Wow, if you are local, this is THE PLACE to contact during a pandemic. I emailed them looking for a few books, they found most of them for me (it is a used book store so they don't have EVERYTHING, but they have a huge inventory) and delivered them. From email to delivery only took 2 hours and most of that was because I was lagging on responding on email! They delivery for free within Alameda and I think for a fee nearby. I got free delivery but tipped anyway. It was immediate (yes, faster than Amazon!) and I know I'm supporting an awesome place. I can't really find anything negative to say about this place, their staff members are very helpful and friendly and their walls are flooded with tons of used and vintage items for sale at prices that will definitely have you returning for many more visits. I am a huge fan of vintage and thrift shops, so to have a place like this that does its part to extend the life of previously loved items is a godsend. I could spend hours searching through their shelves for treasures, most of their shelves are full of print media but they do also have an excellent selection of classic clothing and collectibles. They may not always have exactly what you are looking for but despite that, you will be sure to leave with at least one interesting item. read more

Picked up some great books (Stillness Speaks, The Mastery of Love and The Confidence Code) for really great prices! Blue Rectangle is so cool, like other reviewers have mentioned they project amazing black and white movies on the rear wall, high enough not to irritate you and interesting enough to keep you watching while you browse. Trip and I were drawn into the Blue Rectangle by their awesome VHS island on the sidewalk, I found Alex Proyas' "Dark City" for 94 cents! After heading inside Trip found a Goofy movie on VHS he really wanted and I found the movie "The Ice Harvest" on DVD that Borders and Barnes and Noble were constantly out of stock in. All the titles are not in alphabetical order which I think some people would find annoying, but it keeps you interested and browsing, plus if you ask the lady at the front counter for help i.e. "Have you seen that one movie with John Cusack and it's cold...and there's money...and it's funny..." she will reply, "Oh yeah, it's a white case with blue lettering, over here!" and will randomly pick it off the wall, amazing! :) What I really like about their movies is when you open them there's a little fortune cookie fortune thingie inside that says, "You will sell your used movies and books back to us." Plus they will take anything you bring, according to their pamphlet if they don't need it they will take it off your hands and donate it to someone/someplace that does, very cool stop. read more
