But here one can find handcrafted items with a St. John's theme, such as slate coasters, sun catches, wine stoppers and even switchplate covers. The St. John's townhouses are worked into many of these items. They also carry calendars and books about Newfoundland. There is also a selection of former independent Newfoundland postage stamps for stamp collectors. The shop is about one block up and two over from the cruise terminal.

You'll be greeted by hilarious anti-Harper propaganda and fantastic Newfoundland-themed graphic tees that are legitimately cool and anything but touristy. From simple 'Bayman' or 'Come From Away' declarations, to stylized illustrations of the zany Rawlins Cross intersection, to an owl that says 'what?' instead of 'who?', I loved them all. I mean, Godzilla versus the Puffin? This is just really rad stuff in a really beautiful space. The rest of the shop is a fantastic mixed bag of unique products. There's more refined fashions for both men and women along with ridiculously good gift shopping. Again, this is not a tourist trap so don't expect too much in the way of coloured row houses, but there's plenty of other goodies ready to catch your eye.

In St. John's (in their current location on Water Street), I found the Newfoundland Crafts Council store and had the pleasure of visiting it a couple times during our stay here. The selection did not disappoint, as I came away with a nice forged letter opener from the Green Family Forge (Trinity) and a nice St. John's house magnet from Northeastern Folk Art. I could have easily done more "damage", but it was early in our trip and I needed to pace myself.

This, along with the colors, gives her pottery such a perfect earthy, coastal feel that I absolutely love. It's like I can feel Newfoundland :) She also was very accessible by email and answered all of my questions and gave extra information. She packaged my 5 plates perfectly as well, and they even arrived early. What a happy surprise! I will definitely continue to monitor her shop for more of her amazing pottery!

Love this mall and I go here every year when I make a trip up to Canadialand. (I can call it that…read moresince I'm from there otherwise it would just be a mockery ;p). They used to have the swap meet here on the weekend. I found some pretty cool things here like photographs from locals and some historic dollar bills. They have since stopped the last time I was there... The shops here are pretty much what you can find in the states (except for Tim Hortons, of course!) Parking is easy, the food court has some fun restaurants to try out, but my absolute favourite thing about this place is the movie theater. It's a totally unexpected location in the mall and their food court is AMAZING! They sell TCBY, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, etc to take into the movie theater! Film buff heaven, right there!
