I'm a fan of independent toy stores so it's no surprise that I'm giving the Toy Box 5 stars. I was in the area & needed help finding a present for my son's friend's birthday party. The girl working went above & beyond helping us make a selection. It seems we went through every bit of the store looking for the perfect gift & went away satisfied. We even received complimentary wrapping on the present. Even though some remaining toy stores have higher prices they had a few sales selections which was cool. There's something for any age child here. Lots of Bruder cars/trucks. Lots of hands on toys & educational stuff too. It's big enough where you can take your time looking through all the cool offerings but not overwhelming. I know you can shop at Walmart & other big box stores but it'll never be the same as these small shops. The quality of toys & selection here are top notch & it's always great to keep money in the community. read more

Cute store! I love these kinds of toy stores. The local toy store that sells stuff you're not going to find in a big-box store. I have a lot of nieces and nephews, and I find the selection of toys at Toys R Us to be extremely limited. Here, you find all kinds of unique stuff they simply do not carry at Toys R Us. Get all kinds of ideas here. I picked up a few things (Christmas is coming!!!). They have a good range of small stuff for stocking stuffers too. I had a good time browsing this place - checking over all the different stuff: Art kits, board games, stuffed animals, playsets and dress up things. It's a great place to check out!!! read more

Another reason that The Toy Box is the best is that there are horse dolls. They are speckled and white and black and brown. There are dragon dolls, too. In Amherst town is The Toy Box. You should go in the middle of the day. Save up your allowance so you can get some toys! read more

I really like this store. The toys are not your standard issue Target Walmart Frozen Avengers stuff. It's more toys that sparks imagination, science toys etc. they usually have something I want for my son and sometimes stuff for me. It's not always cheap but most of the toys are well made so the stuff they have is usually worth it. I do wish the had Matchbox and or Norev cars. My son and I like cars that look like normal cars and Hot a Wheels seldom does that. read more

Just to respond briefly to Katherine G.'s response to my original posting. I am, in fact, not Liz, but a full-fledged person in my own right who just so happens to really love The Toy Box! I did stress in my posting that The Toy Box are open and closed according to their posted hours, but that is because I'm also an employee at a small retail establishment. It's difficult (and potentially dangerous) for employees (especially when they're alone!) to let customers in after-hours when registers have been closed down and money is out on the counter. Most often, the best thing to do is simply NOT let them in, however much that may be to the chagrin of said customers. I posted so emphatically in response to your original post, Katherine, because it seemed to me that you were taking things to a personal level, calling out The Toy Box for not being sensitive to the needs of a busy mom, when nothing could be farther from the truth. "They were closed and wouldn't let me in" also struck me as an insufficient reason for saying you had a "really bad experience" and condemning a really excellent local business with a one-star review, especially when the employee in question was clearly engaged (on the phone). I assure you, had you gone to A to Z outside of their normal hours, they wouldn't have let you in either. read more

My daughter and I regularly frequent this toy store. Their toy collecion is outstanding. In addition to this, they have toys to sample & play with throughout the store, which makes the shopping experience so much more enjoyable! We try a few toys & buy a few toys. It's win-win. I'm surprised by the other reviews of this store. I was visiting a friend in the Amherst area recently and remembered, to my dismay, that one of her kids had just had a birthday and I was not prepared with a gift. Luckily, I stumbled upon this store (great location, by the way!) I found the selection to be great, and in my experience the service was wonderful. I had a young woman named Maddy help me and she went out of her way to help me both find the perfect gift and also work with my limited budget for said gift. Sometimes you get attitude from someone if you mention that you're on a budget, but this was not the case at all. I ended up with a gift I was happy to give, and was VERY well received. I don't live in the area, but I wish I did- this place would be my go-to place for kid's gifts. read more

I would normally never give things like this a second thought, but when i read Katherine G's review, I had to put in my 2 cents about her comment, and the toy box.... the toy box is GREAT! i wouldn't call myself a regular, but when i am in need of a gift for my niece or nephew, kids of my friends, etc. etc. I go to the toy box. why? they have unique toys- and toys that are produced by social conscious manufacturers. the staff is ALWAYS friendly, and willing to help you find just what you need. now, call me crazy, but if a store is closed, it's closed. the woman who commented earlier certainly has unrealistic expectations if she thinks a store will open it's doors just so she can LOOK to SEE if they have something she MIGHT want to buy. I was floored! To top it off, it sounds like she is a working, busy person- take a look at the person who was working! don't you think that person wanted to go home to THEIR family? If put in the same situation, I'm sure Katherine G wouldn't have opened that door either. Today, the public treats sales help like servants! It's ridiculous! i will continue to support the toy box! Keep up the great work!! and PS- of course a to z has a bigger selection, the store is 10 times the size of the toy box!! read more

Liz knows the ins and outs of what she's selling and has thoughtful, expert recommendations for all ages and types, which is really a terrific help. I love the Toy Box. My kids are getting older and I still like to go in and browse. The items they carry are great quality, and I often find really unique things. My daughter's current obsession is Momiji dolls, which are so fun. I have never seen them anywhere else. The Toy Box also has a good selection of board games that are great for the older set. Can't beat it when you need a birthday party gift, and they wrap things cute also. I highly recommend the Toy Box, and love having them in town. read more
