Moss remained on portions of the roof, a shingle was knocked loose, the roof treatment was insufficient, and the gutters were not cleaned as agreed. What disappointed me most was that there was no quality review or follow-up by management to confirm the work had been completed properly or to obtain my approval before considering the project finished. A-1 offered to return and redo the work. However, when a service falls this far short of the agreed scope, I believe either a different crew should be assigned or a refund should be offered. I was no longer comfortable having A-1 continue with the project. I hired another company to complete the same scope of work. They performed the work thoroughly and professionally. After seeing the condition of my roof, they commented that A-1 should not have charged me for work that was not completed. If you choose to hire A-1, I recommend requesting a thorough quality inspection at the conclusion of the job and providing final approval only after verifying that all work in the proposal has been completed. I also recommend questioning the requirement for a 50% down payment, as the company appears to have minimal upfront material costs for this type of service.

Initially quoted at three weeks, the project dragged on for an excruciating eight weeks before Roose abruptly vanished. He then demanded full payment since it took him so long and couldn't earn money on other projects. When he was informed that we were not comfortable with that, he used explicative language. The result of his work is an eyesore, with primer peeking through in every room and trim riddled with visible nail holes. Instead of employing proper techniques, Roose opted for a makeshift approach, using colored string chalk and drywall compound, leaving behind unsightly blue patches and uneven surfaces. While Roose may have had good intentions, it is evident that he was ill-equipped for the task at hand. His lack of attention to detail and disregard for proper procedures have left us facing exorbitant costs to rectify his shoddy workmanship. The current bids to remedy the situation exceed or match his original quote, largely due to the extensive cleanup and repainting required to salvage our home's appearance. Compounding our frustration is the chaotic manner in which Roose and his crew operated. There was a distinct absence of organization, with workers scattered across different rooms and no discernible process in place. This lack of professionalism only exacerbated an already dire situation. Furthermore, Roose's association with other contractors in the area, who similarly engage in underbidding and substandard work, raises serious concerns about the integrity of the local contracting community. His candid admission of their disparaging attitudes towards customers serves as a cautionary tale for anyone considering their services. In light of these circumstances, we feel compelled to warn others about our harrowing experience with Roose and urge homeowners in the Ocean Shores area to exercise caution when hiring contractors.
