What a great place for a good meal at a reasonable price! Walter's Table is a local family…read morerestaurant in Downtown Woodstock which serves up fresh and homemade food for breakfast (anytime), lunch, and dinner daily. The casual dining room is very clean with wood floors, table and padded booth seating (along the walls), and high wood chair seating up at the counter. The food offerings here sound appetizing. For breakfast, they offer egg dishes, omelettes (3 egg), pancakes, French toast, and breakfast sides. For lunch, they offer appetizers, soups, seafood chowder, sandwiches, burgers, pitas & wraps, pasta, pork chops, souvlaki, Salisbury steak, fish & chips, chicken tenders, bangers & mash, liver & onions, and more. Homemade pies and puddings offered for dessert. They offer daily specials posted on the big board. Pepsi products and bottled beer served here. The prices (before HST) here seem reasonable, breakfast entrees priced under $10, lunch sandwich platters $8.95-$11.95, and complete dinners with dessert $8-$15. I stopped in at Walter's Table for lunch and I was told I could sit anywhere I'd like. I sat at a soft booth seat along the wall and a waitress arrived with a menu 2 minutes later. The place was moderately busy on a Sunday afternoon. For lunch, I ordered the Pork Schnitzel Dinner ($12) served with 2 scoops of mashed potatoes (or fries), vegetable, soup (or salad), and rice pudding. The cup of Harvest Soup was served very hot with a mix of cabbage, celery, carrots, & ham in a light broth. The main entrée had a big hand breaded pork cutlet, which the meat was very tender coated in a homemade crispy breading topped with a red & green peppers, sliced mushrooms in a creamy gravy, 2 scoops of chunky mashed potatoes (butter on the side) and steamed vegetables (carrots, green beans, wax beans). For dessert, the Rice Pudding was served chilled topped with whipped cream & cinnamon, sweet and refreshing. Overall, the food I had here was very good and the portion of food was generous. The service was pretty laid back here as I received my food in staged order, soup first, then entrée 20 minutes later, followed by dessert promptly after I finished the entrée. The check ($13.56 total) was settled at the table, cash or credit (with portable machine) by the server. In all, I would definitely recommend Walter's Table for good meal for those traveling through Woodstock. (4.5/5.0)

How does this happen? You visit a local restaurant periodically and suddenly realize it has been…read moreover three years since you last updated your review. Yet indeed, I have no revelations or big reveals after revisiting this popular local haunt. The ice cream is still very good and the window service polite and capable. We also recently decided on a rare sit down meal here. We fancied some seafood for a change of pace and rather than driving a dozen or more miles away to frequent our favorite seafood restaurant, we opted to eat locally. And besides, we had tried Lakeshore's clams and scallops when we first moved here and liked them. So one of us ordered the scallop platter and the other clams (full-bellied of course). The servings were slightly smaller than at our favorite place, but also a bit less expensive, so it is a choice whether you would rather take some home for a second meal or save a few dollars in the short term. As we remembered, the food was good, so no complaints. If I push the issue, I have to say the meal didn't quite live up to the other restaurant, but that is why we have fave places, isn't it? It is only logical to occasionally test to see if others are ready to take over top spot! But there have a varied menu. And as a side note, the town of Dexter has implemented a remarkable renewal and improvement project of the neighboring beach and facilities, including building a new covered dining and activity area, which can be reserved or used more spur of the moment as available. There is a fair bit of parking , though very busy with locals and nearby camp visitors, and there are public restrooms just behind the restaurant.
