2 years ago, my mom took her newly adopted cat for first visit; the vet grabbed the cat and…read moreroughly placed her on side. My mom was shocked (she said he slammed her down). He looked her over, says there is ear infection then gave her vaccinations. Gave her a tube of medicine to place in ear. Within 3-4 days, the cat's face was swollen; she then took her cat to a different vet. The cat was febrile, had fever, ear was much worse. Needed IV hydration, antibiotic injection, and 2 meds for ear. My mom has not been back to Dr Hines. She was very upset by his behavior and poor care. The office and techs are nice, but he needs to retire. Shameful

I have a HUGE rescue dog who is scared of everything and everyone. After owning pit bulls my whole life, even my non aggressive dogs have been treated poorly. Not here! I called to schedule an appointment and the lady who answered was pleasant and scheduled us at a time where there would be minimal exposure to other animals and enough people to accommodate any situation. They came out to the car to get us and brought us directly back to the room. My dog immediately got scared in the room and started barking and growling. He's a big boy at a solid 80 pounds. By the time we left the vet had removed the muzzle. They knew exactly what to do to make him feel safe. I will never go to another vet. Thank you for all that you do. We appreciate you more than you know!

Our dog is a rescue who had a lot of issues when we first adopted her, and a neighbor in our condo in Chicago recommended that we send her here for training, because she was very happy with the training her dog had received here. Kathy and Perry owned Markay back then, and we were so pleased with their work that we continued to send our dog there every time we needed to board her. My confidence in their professionalism grew over the years, so we were concerned when we heard that Perry and Kathy were selling their business, but we need not have worried. David and Joanna bought the business without an interruption in service, and the transition was seamless for us. They give our dog the same loving care, and she has come back to us safe, happy, and healthy every time. They pick her up and return her punctually, and comply with our requests assuringly. We have gone there to meet the staff on occasion, and have always left feeling confident that they hire assistant caregivers for the dogs very carefully, because the entire team has always seemed highly competent, kind, and conscientious. I can't say enough what a relief it is to be able to leave our cherished pet in such caring and scrupulous hands.

The training has stuck, and everyone in our house is now happier! Every time we leave town we also use the castle for boarding, I have personally taken a tour of the facility.......cleaner than my own house.....and I am a clean person. They also do pick up/drop off service in Chicago! Makes the responsibility of owning a dog easier on everyone...dog included!

    Kasten's Dog Training

My 6 year old border collie had always been a nervous dog and did not like strangers around her…read more She would nip at people without warning, so we did not take her anywhere. Even though our family was pretty social, she was never part of our social life. When people came over, we put her in a locked room. She rarely went in the car anyplace, and going to the vet was a nightmare. Last summer, I turned Aubrey's world upside down. I got married and moved into a new house. This household included another dog and a special needs 26 year old. The first few weeks were stressful. Aubrey was very anxious and my stepson did not read her cues. There were a few bite incidents and nobody could relax. I didn't know what to do and thought I would have to surrender my dog. I looked online and saw Kasten's Dog Training, which I knew to be close to my new house in Elkhart. I truly doubted that anyone could help my six year old dog. I called and scheduled an online interview. I remember feeling very optimistic after that first phone call. Right away, I felt like there was someone who understood what we were going through, and was going to help me keep my dog. I had nothing much to lose, so I signed her up! Aubrey participated in Program 5- Behavioral Modification for Aggressive Dogs and Dogs with a Bite History. She spent 21 days at Kasten's split into two sessions. After the first 9 days, I came to pick her up and immediately noticed a difference in her demeanor. She completed the second half of her training right before Christmas. When my son came home college, he was shocked to see how much better she was behaving. She had a new confidence and was no longer so anxious. She was a treat to take on walks and we didn't have to worry about her darting out the door anytime it opened. We have taken Aubrey to Kasten's for boarding several times in the past year. Being able to board her, and know she is safe, has been such a blessing. The fact that she was receiving refreshers as she stayed there was an added bonus. Before coming to Kasten's, I never would have even thought that I could board her anywhere. The trainers at Kasten's were so helpful and did such a great job with Aubrey. They worked tirelessly with her, and I could see the extra effort that they put in to get her to feel more comfortable, and eventually enjoy training sessions. Kasten's Dog Training has improved our family's life. We can now enjoy our active social lives and include Aubrey. She jumps happily into her kennel when told, walks on a leash like a show dog and even goes on trips to the hardware store several times a month. She and my stepson have a mutual understanding, and both of them feel much safer around each other. Making that phone call to Kasten's was truly one of the best decisions that I have ever made. Thank you to everyone at Kasten's - you have made such a difference in our lives!

Highly recommend! Lovingly took our rambunctious dogs and taught us how to be better puppy parents.read more
