He was very communicative--even with the 13 hour time difference, I was able to coordinate with him easily. I had my husband be taken out of the house three hours before the party to set up... the balloon arch was delivered right on time. The photographer showed up half an hour earlier than the party. The magician I wanted to hire was booked somewhere else and I only found out a few days before, but the balloon sculpture artist Mark recommended instead was an absolute hit with the kids as well as the adults, which was a pleasant surprise. He made my husband the most outrageous birthday hat. Right when he was supposed to be done, one of the kids tripped and popped his balloons and got upset, and he stayed longer to make him (and a few other stragglers) more balloons. Truly kind. The photographer David was also really so helpful, friendly, and on it! He came early and helped with some of the set up... he was attentive and also very nice to talk to. Very natural (sometimes it's awkward when a photographer's in your face taking pictures but it wasn't awkward at all). We got a USB full of pictures right after the party! Thanks due to Wells Crandall of Sugartown Industries - an amazingly talented, down to earth DJ who would likely sooner face plant into your wedding cake than play "The Chicken Dance" at your reception. Wells works to avoid cliche (and let's be real, boring!) songs and aspects of a wedding reception ::cough:: bouquet toss ::cough:: My husband and I met with Wells three times before the wedding to plan the ultimate playlist. These meetings were relaxed and fun, as Wells has a cool demeanor that makes meeting with him seem like an old friend. The day of my wedding I was a bit nervous that the music might be too mod for my family's conservative midwestern ways ... this was not the case! The genius of Wells is that he quickly picks up on the crowd's tastes, and incorporates a variety of music that is both popular and fun. No song is played in duration (unless the crowd is raging), and the variety and lack of slow songs keeps things moving. When the dancing portion of the evening began, my guests flooded the dance floor like there was no tomorrow. I saw some family members bust moves I did not know they were physically capable of! In an unwieldy testament of the awesome music, my guests did the following (amazing!) things: - A double dutch dance with an invisible jumprope - Lots of (literally) ass-busting breakdancing - A human train that weaved throughout The W hotel - Shattered many a glass on the dance floor ( yeah, we know how to party) - Refused to leave! As the clock struck midnight, we demanded one more song ... and our wish was granted. If it were socially acceptable, I would build a tiny musical shrine of old CDs dedicated to the fabulousness that is Sugartown Industries. Instead, I will make due with the playlist Wells provided after the wedding, which I listen to often to remind me of what a great event we had with the help of Sugartown Industries. As Mike has been in the business for 20 years and the glowing reviews on Yelp, WeddingWire, and the Knot, I made the mistake of booking him. Mike loves to march to his own beat and is extremely disorganized, ill-prepared, lazy, inattentive to details, unprofessional, outdated, lackadaisical, and quite frankly a bozo. While I was impressed by all of the vendors at my wedding, I was seething and cringing by Mike's countless mistakes. As other Yelpers have noted, Mike is highly skilled at mixing beats for Hindu/American fusion weddings and getting everyone to hit the dance floor. However, Mike caters to the crowd rather than to the bride and groom. There's "no magic", here are Mike's top 8 blunders which I confronted him at the end of my wedding night: #1: Using an old schedule that was 2 months old! After 3 phone calls with Mike and sending him a few revised schedules based on feedback that he provided, he used the 1st schedule that I sent him with wrong bridal party names, songs, and times! He neglected all of the changes that we discussed on the phone and failed to use the new schedule that I sent a week before the wedding like he requested. When 5 names are mentioned, but only 2 women and a man walk out to "Sister Sledge" playing, that's a blunder! #2: Missing Cues/Repeated stepping of glasses. My fiancee and I are highly private people and don't enjoy long kissing sessions in front of our parents and friends. We actually took out all kissing pics from our slideshow. During the reception, after a big frown and shaking of the head after the 1st stemming of glasses, Mike initiated and continued to round up the crowd for additional stemming of glasses. It got so bad that some of the bridal party members broke some of the glasses in retailation. The stemming of the glasses is a topic that I also wish Mike discussed with us before the wedding so we could have easily prevented this embarrassing mishap. #3 Announcing the grooms name first and then the bride's name. A big no-no! "Peter and Aarti Pruitt". Mike believes in men first, even at weddings. #4 Playing songs on the "Do NOT play list". I hate "Gangnam Style" with a passion and it was among the 20 don't play list. Not only did Mike happily play the song, but he refused to change the song when I asked him to! That wasn't the only one... #5 Begging for a Big Tip. Mike isn't shy about charging top dollar $3K and the audacity to ask my father for a big tip before the event! The bozo loves to overpromise and underdeliver. My dad was way too nice to tip him $200. As a firm believer of tips, I honestly would NOT tip him. #6: Trying to Upsell at the WRONG time. Mike and I had a couple of minutes before the reception started. Rather than using this crucial time to discuss making any last-minute changes to the schedule (ex. moving things up as we wanted to skip sunset pics due to the weather), instead Mike kept trying to repeatedly sell us on the dhol guy. I hate BHANGRA, why would I pay extra for it? #7 Forgetting to play the cake cutting song. I was looking forward to hearing my favorite Baby Love during the cake cutting, too bad I never got the chance to hear it! #8 Not taking full ownership. After confronting Mike about all of the blunders listed above, he kept deflecting and making excuses. Despite repeated emails and phone calls before the wedding, Mike was very ill-prepared and was "winging" it at the wedding with sheepish grins. While I appreciate Mike's apology for his mistakes in a follow-up email that he sent, he doesn't take away from the painful memories that I experienced due to his careless mistakes. He single-handedly ruined the reception. Not once did Mike make it about the bride and the groom, it was more of Mike's day and pleasing the crowd. If you want to make your day special, I recommend tuning him out and enjoying the beat of someone else.

The place was packed and exciting and the area that was reserved for us allowed us to take in all the action. Josh gave me his personal cell phone number in case I ran into any issue, but I never felt the need to use it. My event went off without a hitch and that would absolutely not have happened without Partners in Sound. Leading up to the event - Anthony met me at the space to do a walkthrough and gave me great pointers on set up and layout of the space. Anytime I had a question he was very easy to reach through call / email / text. Day of event - their team arrived on time and ready to go. Set up and break down of 40 large banquet tables, many bistro tables and chairs is never easy. They nailed it. They even had tech staff onsite throughout the entire event to monitor the sound and ensure that everything was running smoothly. Their prices are extremely fair. For an extra cost you can hire their team to fully assist in the set up and breakdown and it is completely worth the money. This is a one stop shop for any sort of event planning need that you could have. Event planning is stressful and I am so glad that I had worked with Partners in Sound. It had the look and feel and energy level of a Saturday night party. Michael's dance team was amazing. Our guests are still talking about it. We added a saxophone player and drummer as well. Michael was referred to us by a friend at our temple and he did not disappoint. We liked the fact that included in his price were games during the cocktail hour. The only extra was the pop-a-shot and his crew had it set up for the cocktail hour and then seemlessly broke it down and reconfigured it in the main room in advance of the main doors opening. We used his photo booth as well, which was a lot of fun. We didn't want to do frames and he was able to get us vinyl sleeves and tassels so the pictures can be placed in the sleeves and it became a bookmark. Our venue had built in lighting so we used the venue's lighting; however, you can use Michael as a one stop shop for lighting, video, photography and more. I selected 20 songs in advance, I didn't keep track but the DJ knew exactly what was current and the music and flow was excellent. We also did a trivia game suggested by Michael.
