Unfortunately there was a lot wrong as well. I was told that this was one of the cheapest second hand stores to visit, however when visiting I really found the opposite. In fact, a lot of their prices were higher than Goodwill (which was mind blowing too me.) There were carts full of inventory sitting out which I felt was very disorganized. The prices were just uncomfortable high. So I went looking mainly for items that had the color sticker of the day. Also the toys were all up on top of clothing racks. I am 5'8 and had to stand on my tippy toes a bit to see the stuff up their. I can imagine this is done to keep kids from playing with them. However, this also feels like a bad situation for anyone who would fall under my height. What was really disappointing was that there VHS tapes were .99 cents. In this area (where most stores offer them at 10 cents each, it was steep) I did find a couple I liked and purchased. Had they been about half that price I would have probable helped clear their shelves a little better (or a lot). However, the worst part of this trip came when I found a Mixer, very pretty it had a sticker on it of 3.99. I plugged it in made sure it worked (which I think is a neat feature, most stores you are kind of taking a guess). When I got up to the register though the lady behind the counter discovered another sticker underneath(for 14.99). She called in someone else, and their tone was very accusing. I left the stores with tears in my eyes and will never return. I believe a class in how to handle people with Asperger's/Autism is needed at this store.

I have been a member of the Y for almost ten years and since the move to the new facility, families and children have been just an afterthought. The Y provides beautiful accommodations and work out areas for adults equipped with saunas, lounges, television, etc., in both the men's and women's locker rooms, but the family locker rooms are almost prison-like and substandard. They have only six changing rooms, compared to the hundreds of lockers and space in the adult locker rooms. They have no sauna or shower access. They are cold, mildew filled title floors. The only thing that children can actually access for fitness is the pool and even the lifeguards discriminate against children. There is no fitness area that is provided for children. There is only limited child care. Any parent who wants to actually be physically fit after paying the membership and monthly fees has only limited availability and usually has to find outside daycare just so they can work out. Limited fitness hours, lack of child care and poor amenities are the best that the Dow Bay Area FAMILY Y can do? Funny that they gladly take many families' membership money but don't care enough about those families to provide the same accommodations and fitness programs as they do for adults without children. This is exclusion and discrimination at its worst...which is a poor reflection on Dow and the YMCA/YWCA organizations. I recommend that you not become a member if you have children and actually want to use the facilities.
