I worked for Pandora's Box for six years, including nearly three years as manager of the Inverness…read morelocation. During that time, I worked at all six stores the company operated, so I had a firsthand view of how the business was run. Unfortunately, I watched a pattern repeat itself over the years. Whenever a store closed or was sold, employees were shuffled between locations, and the burden often fell on loyal employees and managers who had no control over those decisions. The situation that led to my resignation began after the Crystal River store was sold. Employees were transferred between locations, and a Beverly Hills employee was moved to my store. This resulted in one of my own employees being terminated to make room. She was a dependable employee who lived only minutes from the store and had been doing an excellent job. From my perspective, she was not let go because of her performance. She lost her job because of a chain of staffing decisions. In my opinion, the decision appeared unfair and raised concerns about possible favoritism. That decision also left me permanently scheduled to work Sunday double shifts from about 8:45 a.m. until 10:15 p.m. I warned against the arrangement and initially tried to say no, but I was eventually persuaded to accept it despite my gut instinct telling me it was not sustainable. The replacement employee could not work Sundays, so I was expected to cover a nearly 14-hour shift every week. Most businesses in town are closed on Sundays. That is when people are usually spending time with friends and family, while I was stuck alone inside the store all day. Not once did either owner call to ask how I was adjusting to the new schedule or check on how I was doing. There was not a phone call, a text, or even a simple check-in. When I spoke up and asked for help, I felt like I was met with a cold shoulder, silence, and brick walls instead of empathy or a genuine effort to find a solution. Over time, that lack of support and human concern contributed to the loneliness I experienced. Ironically, the owners had previously said permanent double shifts were a bad idea because they were difficult to cover when someone called out. I professionally explained that these shifts were taking a serious toll on my mental health. They left me feeling isolated, depressed, burned out, and disconnected. I offered several reasonable alternatives, including working any other shift or day, dividing Sundays into normal shifts, or shortening Sunday business hours. None of those alternatives were accepted. After six years with the company and nearly three years in management, there was still no meaningful effort to discuss possible solutions. My concerns were dismissed through a brief text saying that my request could not be accommodated. Despite everything, I still gave a full two weeks' notice and completed every remaining shift professionally. I did not leave because I was unwilling to work. I left because I no longer felt valued, supported, or respected. Loyal employees deserve better than being treated like numbers on a schedule. Another pattern I observed was the number of managers who ultimately resigned. During my six years with the company, I watched multiple managers leave over issues they believed were outside their control. I was not the first manager to reach that point, and I doubt I will be the last. I hope the company takes a closer look at how its staffing decisions affect the people who keep the business running. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I cannot recommend working here.
