Meadowmont Village is the place my wife and I have visited the most during our time in Chapel Hill…read more(2020-2024), mainly because of the Harris Teeter here, but also because of the property's restaurants and other businesses. This is a nice mixed-use development on the east side of Chapel Hill, close to the Durham border. It's just a short drive down highway 54 from I-40 exit 273 and it's not far from 15-501 either. Meadowmont Village sets itself apart from competition in the area by simply being nicer with a cleaner and more elevated atmosphere. The architectural design, layout, and landscaping make it a quaint, relaxing place to walk around. The tenant mix is a good combination of chain and local. This isn't a bigger, destination-type development like Fenton in Cary. Instead, it's smaller and quieter, and that's part of the appeal. It's never felt crowded or uncomfortable all the times I've been here. It's easy to get in and out and there always seems to be just the right amount of people, even when it's busy (e.g., active patios at Brixx, Bluebird, and Kahlovera). There's a pond and trails nearby and overall, the entire neighborhood is well-kept. When we first moved to the area, my wife and I frequented the Harris Teeter up 54 at Hope Valley Commons in Durham. We then switched to the Harris Teeter at Meadowmont Village because it's more secluded and has a calmer, more peaceful environment (inside and out). While I think the Harris Teeter at Hope Valley Commons is a little bigger with a slightly wider variety of inventory, that difference hasn't been big enough for us to switch back to the Hope Valley Commons Harris Teeter as our primary Harris Teeter. But if that doesn't apply to you then this fancy shopping area will work out fine. They're trying to be European and stuff, and it's cute. Reminds me of some of the fancier parts of Northern Virginia or Maryland, but it's not cheap here. It's a cute brand-new shiny shopping center with some boba tea and some desserts and some food and a lot of high-end shops. They tried to make it like a little shopping Village and while it does seem fake it and contrived, it also is a really nice place to hang out and get some stuff - and it's peaceful and safe and quiet and reminds me of Virginia in some ways.

Very nice bar, too Lumina Theatre is so nice and this Village has music on lawn all summer (Sundays) & movies outside on Fri & Sat. Some nice stores (Bloom & Cottage Shop) so you can skip the shopping center.

But the village itself lacks personality based on my few visits. It's out in the country--far away from downtown Chapel Hill. There are some office spaces, but mostly the village has restaurants and other businesses. Behind it is a neighborhood. Parking is plentiful, and it's decently designed so that it doesn't feel like the handful of shops/restaurants are swallowed up by the giant parking lot. However, the whole area seems to lack personality or anything to give it character.

My biggest…read moreconcern is that the shop seem to be well attended, but also overpriced, and frankly, you can't even use the bathroom without talking to somebody who owns one of the establishments to get a code to use the restroom. Doesn't feel very inviting and the parking requirements. Here are such that if you even leave this establishment for five minutes, your car is gonna be towed and you're gonna get a bill for over $200. It just gives me the willies to come back.

We might come here for the other restaurants (e.g., Grata Diner, Venable Rotisserie Bistro), but other than that, there's not much for us here. Carr Mill Mall is a shopping mall with restaurants, a grocery store, and local boutique shops. The mall is named after Julian Carr, whom the Town of Carrboro was named after in 1913. It used to be a cotton and hosiery mill. The cotton mill was built in 1898. The original brick structures have been renovated and repurposed into the mall it is today. Like other converted developments across the country, the complex has an industrial/warehouse vibe and it's got some charm to it. The grocery store is Weaver Street Market, a local chain of cooperative (community-owned) grocery stores. There are four Triangle locations. The aforementioned Venable Rotisserie Bistro is presumably named after what the Town of Carrboro used to be called, Venable. The mall is located in/near the heart of Carrboro, within a short walking distance to a lot of local businesses. According to Yelp reviews from 2011 to 2023, this property has been strict with parking enforcement and quick to tow. Being from a big city like Atlanta, I'm used to it, but I wouldn't expect it in a town like Carrboro. I've personally never had an issue parking here and judging from the reviews, I wouldn't leave my car here to walk to another place off-site.

Size, color, plating) I had checked craft shops and stores, but couldn't find anything that was a good match. Earlier during a quick trip to Chapel Hill, I remembered this shop was in the same mall as Mulberry Silks and we decided to stop in during our next visit. It's kind of across from Mulberry Silks and is near a ladies boutique and the CBD cafe. The shop offers jewelry making tools, beads, closures, and some pre-made items as well. There is a small workspace where you can make jewelry there and I suspect that they may hold workshops or classes from time to time. (There are signs saying that the staff could also try to design/help create custom jewelry pieces for customers if they are interested.) I believe we've run into the owner both times I've gone in and she's usually working on something but will look up and greet customers. If they have questions, she is happy to help. I like that there are closures and jewelry parts available that are 18 KT plated gold, and in addition, there are some gold filled ones as well. We did ask the owner to take a look at our chain to see what size of the 18 KT plated closures would fit or suit the chain we brought best. She pointed out two sizes and felt we could go either way. We didn't have the proper tools at home to install the hardware onto the chain, so the owner was gracious to let us use the workspace and tools to attach the hardware to the chain. Prices for the hardware were reasonable. Also I appreciated that she had the workspace available for us to utilize when we needed the correct tools to add them to the chain. With regard to parking, it can be a toss up. There are a few surface lots you can park in, but one of them is shared with Harris Teeter and can get full.

Clearly a shop catering only to older women, I went in to browse and was ignored by all three women…read moreemployed there. Finally, I purchased one small item and walked to the counter, but I was not greeted and was basically ignored until she said, 'Put your card there.' This was the worst service experience in Carrboro, with a limited selection and overpriced items.
