I've gone over a week with no AC in the middle of summer, I've ran into numerous homeless people past the lobbies asking for money, and there's a constant smell of weed due to a zero-enforcement policy on smoking in the building. Do. Not. Move. Here. If you notice a large amount of five star reviews, that is because there is an incentive program for doing so. You've been warned! EDIT: I also forgot another terrible fact of living here. Pet owners will DAILY leave dog pee/poop on the elevators and in the common spaces, and the building at best will clean it up once a day. I've been a resident for 2 months. Move in was smooth but the curtain soon fell. Biggest takeaway, if this is your only option, make sure you get an apartment in the west tower. Let's talk about safety - we pay $160/month for parking and people are having multiple tires stolen off their cars at night. There's a man who is seen on door cams checking for unlocked apartment doors. There are homeless people living in the stairwell of the garages. The doors between the garage and the apartment building are continually found propped open. A man was robbed and assaulted in the lobby of the east tower. All of this is within the two months I've lived at The Veridian. Part of this is just living in a city, my problem is the lack of communication and basic steps (such as cameras) from the property owners. The water - be prepared to buy bottled water, have a filter on your sink for cooking water, and just to be disgusted by the smell of the shower water. This might be pretty standard but you'll have to run your microwave fan if you cook anything because the smoke detectors are right in the kitchen and are super sensitive. I do appreciate having a gas stove, though! I moved in without the stainless steel appliances I am paying extra rent for. They've been "on order" since I moved in with no delivery date. You would think with a concrete structure it would be quiet, but I can still my upstairs neighbors walking, my direct neighbors with their tv playing, and absolutely anything happening in the hallway. I just renewed my lease at the four year anniversary mark. The location of the building--walking distance to so many things in downtown Silver Spring plus a Giant grocery store 4 mins walk away --was what had me originally choose it via a video tour and cross country relo at the end of 2020. The amenities are good, the staff in the office are always responsive, pleasant, and communicative. Parking is onsite (another company). They take care of critical maintenance on things for safety/legal compliance as well as in response to issues tenants alert them to. They took my deposit which should cover the cleaning repairs & charging another 400$ on top of paying my last month rent . They will also call to have your utilities cut off a week after your move out date . I had move 5/24 & my move out date was 6/7 . On the first day when I moved into the building, the concierge screamed in my face because I asked her to tell me where the loading dock is and she couldn't describe how to get there and refused to provide a luggage cart despite having one available. A couple of months in, the electronic fob system completely broke. The building first hired security to remedy the issue while they replace the system which will "take months." The building, without explanation, stopped employing security a few weeks after. Recently, the building introduced a "package room" instead of the concierge receiving packages. This is a closet unlockable remotely by app. Residents and whoever else can get in has access to all the packages in the 15 story building. There are no more notifications from the building that a package has been received. There is a camera, allegedly. The air conditioner condenser and my refrigerator were hilariously loud. I also received my renewal offer which was approximately an $100 increase per month, which is a 14% increase. Otherwise, this place is fine. But you can probably find something comparable with better amenities in the area for the price. read more

I lived in the Veridian for two years and was sad to say goodbye. Moving during a pandemic was not my idea of fun. I lived on the West side so I cannot speak to the East side. The East side was originally supposed to be the condominium side and thus, has a little bit more flare, but from other reviews tenants seem to be a little more neglected on that side. But that is my outsider perspective. I've experienced the Veridian pre-covid and during covid. So this review is a blend. Things I particularly enjoyed... Silence. The building is QUIET. I hardly ever heard my neighbors. On very rare occasion I would hear my neighbors across the hall if they were standing by their door and talking very loudly, but that was generally it. So perhaps the building is constructed out of very good materials. Silence is paramount in my book, I'm not interested in what you're doing in your apartment. The demographics in the building appeared to consist of more mature adults with real jobs so I'm sure that helps. The price of the Veridian is probably why you'll see actual adults. Concierge was always great, Paris is this best and probably deserves a raise if she's still there. Before covid, concierge would take packages if the package wasnt going to be put in the mail courier boxes. As a result, I didnt encounter any packages being lost or stolen. During the pandemic however, packages started being left at resident's doors. Convenience is another plus. A quick five minute walk to the metro, for whatever that's worth these days. I also enjoyed going to bump n' grind coffee right across the street. For quick grocery runs I would walk to Giant, otherwise I'd make the 60 sec drive. Being able to walk to the restaurants downtown is great as well. There's a homeless shelter right around the corner. Not everyone makes it inside at the end of the evening so just be advised when walking downtown and you have to walk by. When I was moving there appeared to be a homeless community in development on the overpass as well. Don't know if its still there. Amenities, during the pandemic when the amenities were completely shut down I felt as though rent should've been discounted due to the diminished standard of living but I didnt take up that battle sword. Pre-covid I enjoyed the two separate gyms. The gym on the East side has the treadmills, benches, and free weights. The gym on the West side has the elliptical machine, rower, bike(s), and leg curl machine and the like. At one point the gyms were completely shut down, and then another point capacity was limited. I only enjoyed the pool pre-covid which was nice. During the pandemic, no guests were permitted and capacity was very LIMITED. So I didn't really bother. I did also utilize the community room and its adjacent computer room to have a group meeting once, pre-covid of course. Probably used the rooftop deck the most, especially in the summer. Things more ehhh.... Parking is the reason I can't give five stars. Atlantic owns the parking garage but Atlantic and the Veridian are not strangers to entities cooperating with one another. There was a string of Vandalism taking place in the garage for a time. My car was saved from the first two incidents, but the third time was the charm for me. The vandals decided not to limit their pursuits to P1. Perhaps people complaining the first two times and then my husbands complaints the third resulted in some actual change. Cameras are installed at the entrances to the garage now and brighter lights have been implemented. Perhaps these measures will be deterrents to would be vandals. THE GARAGE IS EXPENSIVE. There's no other way to put it, I had a tandem spot for my husband and I. I would park in the tandem spot and he would park wherever. My husband said if he were single he would just park in one of the county garages thats not too far away. Rent is pricey and the rent increases can be too. HOWEVER, read this part carefully... YOU CAN NEGOTIATE YOUR RENT INCREASE. We negotiated our rent increase so you can negotiate yours too. Management, I had very little engagement with management which is how I like it. So not much for me to complain about there. When I put in a maintenance request it was timely addressed. Does management take the time to get to know residents? not really but that's not high on my list or priorities. We have lived here for a little over a year. The staff is super nice. For the location, square footage, and the quality of our apartment, the price is incomparable to anything around us. We have lived in two separate apartments in this building and the quality of both have been outstanding. Our biggest issues with this building come from the parking and the yearly price increase. Parking for a tandem spot in this building will cost you $240 (upwards, because this also increased after a few months) or $140 per car. Equity does not own the parking garage and therefore has no say over the parking so there is no negotiating this price. Each time we moved/renewed our lease there was a significant price increase. The leasing staff act like you get a say in how much your rent will increase/not increase when in reality you have no say in this. Either you take their price increase, or you vacate. Equity seems to be focusing on turnover instead of keeping current tenants in the building. I guess their management rather move us out so that they can make an additional $1,200+ on our apartment by someone else moving in. I love our apartment but it is definitely a short term option because who can afford living somewhere with an definite increase in parking and rent every year?? Not sustainable location. What follows are details on the complex based on my experience. -------------------- My wife and I have moved out after a year here. There was only one reason for the move: the rent increase. It was -insane- how much they wanted to increase it by (16%). After two solid weeks of negotiating, the percentage increase stayed where it was, so we opted to leave. My understanding of the situation, after talking with a number of people that were moving out around the time I was leaving (apparently it was a blanket rent increase across-the-board for almost everyone), the increase was tied to the new building management that took over earlier in 2011. The rest of my review still applies as far as I'm concerned. With 10-16% rent increases at the Veridian, it isn't about the money anymore, it's about whether or not one wants to support such behavior. We voted with our wallets and left. -------------------- 1) Location: I'm a big-city guy (born and raised in NYC), so walkability is a must wherever I live. Fortunately, The Veridian meets all of my requirements, being a six-minute walk from a Giants (supermarket), pharmacies, and restaurants. Another six minutes away, a TON of shopping options, most of which I don't care too much about but my wife really likes (clothing stores and places like that) and two movie theatres. Last, the coming transit hub on Colesville Road (under construction as of this review) will undoubtedly make the area even more attractive. 2) The Staff: VERY helpful and well-informed people work here. Everyone's been courteous and willing to answer my questions, even the many questions I had that got one or two people a bit flustered because of how specific they were. Fairly quick to respond via email. The [former] building manager, Marcus, can get very technical if he gives you the tour, something I really liked. However, following the change in building management there was some turnover in front-desk and maintenance staff in the following months, which definitely affected the level of knowledge available at the front desk. 3) Security: There is someone at the front-desk all day and the doors auto-lock at night. However, there are two ways into the building, and one of them is only monitored by a camera (though that entrance is always locked unless you have your keyfob). That said, I did look into crime reports in the general area and despite a single event that happened last year, I'm comfortable with the buildings present security measures which, according to some reviewers on another site, have drastically improved. Many people feel this area in Silver Spring is pretty unsafe, so take my words with a grain of salt if you must. 4) Maintenance: Requests are resolved VERY quickly. I've had a couple, ranging from a snapped cord on my blinds to having a showerhead removed, but they were all resolved within 1 business day - in the case of the blinds, it was resolved over the weekend, which I thought was amazing service. One incident that occurred in spring 2011 was a major leak in the pool when filling it up, causing a massive flood on the 15th floor. My apartment wasn't affected (came REALLY close, though) but several others had major carpet and wall damage. 5) Sound: Considering myself somewhat of an audiophile, I ran several sound tests (working with my neighbors) to determine what the maximum volume level could be in my multimedia center before it became audible to them through the wall. The conclusions are very comforting: I can have the volume up to a fairly high point before the sounds began to consistently pass through the wall. Being that these speakers were in one of the bedrooms (the living room sounds are practically inaudible even at really high volumes for my neighbors), I was very satisfied with the results. The one glaring issue that at least my wife and I have constantly experienced: erratic cell phone service. So far, my experience here has been flaky at best, as my T-Mobile phone gets practically no service in the main lobby. In addition, service is surprisingly intermittent at times in my apartment. I don't know if it's because of the height in which the apartment is located, but it is quite surprising. The moment I step outside the building I get full bars and maximum data speed. If your phone supports WiFi Calling, definitely utilize this. Otherwise, figure out the locations of the deadzones in your apartment and don't pace a lot. read more

We lived here for 1 year and are moving out the second our lease is up. The staff is nice, the amenities are fine, the apartments are normal. I have no major issues or complaints about the property. Construction-wise, I really like that they separated all floors/ceilings with concrete like a parking garage. There is none of that upstairs-neighbor-stomping that is so common. Alternatively, I really dislike that all of the walls were studded with cheapo metal studs. This is such an aggravating construction shortcut. Trying to hang pictures is frustrating and forget wall-mount shelving or TV's. The main failure with this property is the yearly increase. We had no idea they would be raising the rent on us 14% after the first year. That is a very dishonest business practice. They were offing no new amenities or features, their business costs did not increase, they're even looking at tax breaks for 2018! This is just raw greed to screw the tenant. They are sitting on several untapped gold mines of revenue at this location, but probably cannot focus on them since their staff are too busy handling tenant turnover instead of driving additional revenue. I guess their executive management can't figure that out since they're making business decisions like a 12 year old, trying to increase revenue by raising prices. What are you going to do if your rent goes up $300 PER YEAR? That's $1800 in 6 years. That's a $4000 apartment for 1100 square feet! read more

I'll start with my only complaint- the hike in rent every year. I've lived here almost two years and will be moving out when my lease is up in May. Just received my rental renewal notice today and they plan to charge me $300 a month more than when I moved in. It's a bigger rental increase than any of my friends I've asked in the area. I just can't keep paying this much for rent, plus utilities, plus parking to live here. I'm moving about a half mile down the road to save $500 a month. The building is great, maintenance people are amazingly quick to fix things, and it's been pretty quiet, except for the barking dog that moved in upstairs a couple of months ago. I love living here. The staff is always responsive. Issues pop up everywhere (Veridian or not), but they address them promptly from leasing to service staff. The consistent concierge staff is good, remember your unit, etc. and I live in the East building. Rent is high but you're in downtown SS so I would guess they're all high in this area or not managed well and therefore have cheaper rent. I think Veridian did a good job with the pandemic and took it seriously judging by the precautions. Parking is expensive BUT it's not owned by Veridian. Originally I enjoyed living at the Veridian, but as time has gone on I've been seeing the same issues pop-up: - The parking garage is absolutely terrible. In the time I have lived there, there have been multiple car break-ins, to the point that the management has emailed people about it and just sends the same standard form email. Also, the corridors in the garage are incredibly thin / concrete blocks jutting out everywhere. You're probably going to scratch your car. - Get ready for your rent to go up 6% - 13% each year. I paid on time every month and saw my rent go up 6%, and this was not a month to month contract (for that I was quoted at a 10% increase). When I tried to negotiate it down, I was basically told that if I didn't like it I could move out. - If you live in the east building, prepare for the desk to treat you poorly. Whenever I come for packages or to get a key if I've locked myself out, I have found the desk to be incredibly rude to me, all while being friendly to people who live in that building an walk by. One time I went to throw bulk trash out and had someone from the front desk run over to me and question if I live there and demand proof. - The hallways are pretty gross. They need to be painted and the carpet cleaned. If you live near the trash room, prepare for the hallway to smell like garbage. - Getting in touch with the management company is far more difficult than it should be. read more

I have to admit that I was reluctant to move to the Veridian based on others reviews, but I'm glad I didn't let those deter me. It's a super convenient location and the units are updated and in good condition. I consider myself to be a very low maintenance tenant meaning I don't need to interact with the staff more than necessary and my expectations are pretty minimal (safe, quiet, clean). I've never felt unsafe coming and going in the building/garage, but it never hurts to be aware of your surroundings. In my unit, I cannot hear the metro or other trains pass at all and I never hear more than a door close or water running from the neighbors on either side of me. I don't use the amenities very frequently, but when I do things seem to be in good working condition. It's more important to me that my individual unit is comfortable than the amenities being in immaculate condition because I don't live in the community room or fitness centers... Every staff interaction has been positive and I worked with everyone in the leasing office at some point and they were all helpful and professional. Also, maintenance requests have always been handled promptly. All in all, I'm happy to live here and the bad reviews are just an example of "you can't please everyone" so take them with a grain of salt. read more

So first I would like to say that this review is based off of the service. Not necessarily the apartments because I never got that far. Last Saturday I arrived at the Veridian Apartments to look around at some apartment models. When I first got in the lobby area there was no one around to guide us. After about 5 minutes the concierge told us that if we wanted to see apartment models we would have to make an appointment. This was fine because they were about to close that day, so there was no problem there. The concierge told my girlfriend and I if the following Saturday at 9:30am was ok. We both hesitated knowing good and well that 9:30am on a Saturday morning is the last thing in the world we would want to do. So the concierge laughed, and said she agreed; "How about 10:00am" she says. We both agreed that would be fine. Fast forward to the following Saturday which is today. We were running a little late, therefore we tried to call the Veridian to let the office know that we were running late and would still like to see some apartments. No one answered. I called 4 times, and still got no answer. We finally arrived at 10:07am. Now again, granted we were late; we asked if we could still see some apartments. The SAME concierge asked for our names, and proceeded to tell us "You're appointment was at 9:30am". Ummmmm first off....no it wasn't. I remember you specifically telling us "I'll put you down for 10:00am". The concierge sort of gave us a side eye and said she would talk to the leasing agent to see if they could still see us. Sure enough they couldn't and the concierge asked if we would like to reschedule. We said no and she said ok have a nice day. Moral of the story, she wasn't helpful. She probably put us down for the wrong time. When she initially took our name and number, my thought process was "why ask for a number, if your not going to call to either confirm the reservation time slot, or to see if the customer is still coming". I don't get that at all. I didn't look at the apartments. They might have been fine, but service overrides all of that. Everything happens for a reason, because 15 minutes later found another apartment complex (Fenwick Apartments lol) that just finished construction and beginning to rent. The Veridian Apartments are at best, a great setting with its proximity to Metro, nearby shops, and restaurants. The amenities are what you expect in a luxury building, HOWEVER, the service and security are a complete and utter disappointment. 1) In only 18 months, residents have experienced 3 changes in management (I stopped counting the changes in office staff that have been fired), a string of burglaries, a homicide, and multiple power outages (one where the generator failed and no one was there to assist residents in a complete blackout -- imagine walking down 10 flights of steps in total blackness). Recently, I awoke to a malfunctioning fire alarm, that literally blares IN YOUR apartment a recording, "there was a fire reported in the building, please exit the building" at 1a, 3a, 5a, and again at 7a!!!! Not happy! 2) The biggest takeaway is that the VALUE for apartments in this building are unmatched. I recall after my first year renewal, my rent increase was proposed at 18%!!!! The "Montgomery County Voluntary Rent Guideline" more than 8 years ago only suggested a 5.4% increase. In this economy, I was dumbfounded that they could request such a huge increase. Management tried to argue that occupancy and market value dictate rates, but when more than 25% of the residents are short-termed, military, this argument loses merit and only points to managements excessiveness and goal to increase bottom line. IMO, a one bedroom at The Veridian should start at $1,500. 3) Equity has a history of underpaying staff and the tenants suffer by getting a level of service that is consistent with the desk staff's compensation. That might be ok if the rent was not so expensive. Its a problem when you are paying water, sewerage, electric, rent, and a amenities fee. 4) I, as well as other residents have repeatedly asked for a concierge/security in the East building and to no avail. The lack of security on the East side poses security issues for both sides of the building. The most recent manager made it clear that the management would NEVER add a concierge--- no matter how much the residents asked, created a petition, or voiced concern. How's that for customer service? 5) The complimentary internet service they boast about, is often down and strangely, when you need it most. For prospective residents: If you really like the property and after reading the other reviews still want to make The Veridian your home, I hope you can negotiate a reasonable rate. For the management team: I keep hearing, "bare with us...we have a new property manager, we are trying...blah, blah, blah" -- TRY HARDER! Rather than host meaningless social mixers (sponsored by Zipcars/Comcast) and tell us what you WON'T do, try listening to the residents, train/polish the staff a bit more, and improve the security on the property -- I for one count the days until my lease expires. Wow! I LOVE the Veridian community! Safe, clean, inviting, and peaceful! My partner and I were diligent in seeking a community that was accessible to transportation, food, and fun options. And the Veridian hit all those criteria and more. The amenities are outstanding, and in the era of working from home, I have been so fortunate to have multiple workrooms to conduct meetings and complete work assignments. The repair/maintenance personnel are responsive and thorough. And I appreciate the friendly and attentive staff. Ms. Janice is fantastic! She gave us a wonderful tour of the community when we were weighing our living options and has continued to be kind and welcoming now that we're members of the Veridian family. Sam (front desk attendant) always has a positive demeanor and is proactive in responding in supportive ways. Robert (community manager) walks around with a smile on his face! Spent a lot of time here at a friend's house the past year. I also just signed a lease today. I wasn't going to leave a review, but as I someone left a bad review about service(which sounds like you were just unlucky to get that specific concierge), i feel the need to write my good experience. Arrived without notice, and within 3 minutes I was looking inside apartments. Our concierge, William, was top notch. We went in, then out, then asked to go back up - he gave us a measuring tape, pen, and paper. We spend a good 30 mins discussing where I'm going to put my furniture, measuring space left and right. He was super friendly and patient. As far as the place, I've slept there a number of nights. The place is pristine, clean, modern, and, for my most important criteria - quiet. So disappointed in the management and leasing office. Signed a short term lease for 60 days at $2500 per month plus security. Lease noted a 60 day notification of move out, I asked if this was applicable to me and was told it was not as my lease was for only 60 days. My bad in not getting it in writing but bad form of Veridian for not honoring their word. They billed be 2800 for failure to provide a written notification of lease termination. Would not recommend the Veridian to anyone. read more

I lived at The Veridian for over a year. Great place and location is really nice! You are very close to a major grocery store and the Metro. Plus there are more than a dozen or so places to eat within walking distance ....not to mention a Papa Johns and a small store that sells liquor and other items in the building. One con is price but this is Maryland and downtown Silver Spring so prices are high. My advice is to stalk the site and look for a deal. Also, I wouldn't get a unit facing the train tracks ....when I parked in the garage( facing the train tracks) I could hear the train and it was crazy loud. My apartment was facing East West Highway and I NEVER heard the train, ever! Pros: decent size apartment, balcony, real wood floors ( some units), granite, secure parking, 24h concierge, secure entry, trash chutes every floor, easy move in, attentive staff, and location! Cons: price, no SS in kitchen, not luxury, parking garage is tight and is extra $. read more

Lots of reviews are all over the place for the Veridian, so I wanted to clear a few things up. First of all, if you are moving into any apartment complex in the world, there is a chance you will end up with a horrible neighbor. So 1-star reviews complaining about a bad neighbor doesn't really mean much because that can happen anywhere. I'll start with the only downsides I can think of: sometimes the front desk is not staffed; there were occasional smells of smoke through some hallways (as mentioned, this can happen anywhere... and I should say we could never smell anything in our apartment); and finally there are train tracks on one side of the building so if you are a light sleeper then try to avoid getting an apartment facing that direction. Overall, The Veridian really deserves a solid 4 stars. It is a nice clean building; the maintenance staff are excellent (and often complete repairs within 1 day); elevators were never out of service; and there are solid amenities for those who use things like the gyms and pool. It's about an 8 minute walk to metro and in a very nice safe area. We really had a good experience living there and I would recommend it to others. read more

I notice the early reviews seemed to be people expecting what living in downtown Bethesda is like...This place has been great to me, i dont live on the concierge side so when they arent there I dont miss them and they usually promptly return. The staff is friendly, vibrant, and engaging....many live in the building so they foster the relationships with the neighbors constantly. My things get fixed promptly, my calls get returned, the hallways and common areas and parking garage are SPOTLESS as a rule, occasionally theres a mess but its rare. The onsite stores have very professional people incl the Papa Johns and especially the convenience store....it is truly the best convenience store ive ever shopped in...once i asked for chocolate milk and it wasnt there...when i returned weeks later they remembered me and told me they stock the milk...it was a nice touch...and the wine selection is sommelier quality...literally hundreds of varieties. But overall they do not micromanage their residents...some people double park for a sec...its ok....play music in your home at reasonable time and hours....its ok....have a gathering and it gets a bit loud....well its kinda ok but they will warn you respectfully. I feel free here, no one in management smothering or harassing you as if theyre doing you a favor by managing the place....the walls are kinda thin as some mentioned but hey its an apartment...my neighbors having a reasonable noise level bothers me none. A great place, well managed, and I love coming home...plus there are about 100 stores within a 10min walk up GA Ave...and a Whole Foods 1/4 mile away read more
