It normally gets to the stage when I'm walking down the street and feel my hair at a certain point, I'll just walk into the next hair salon I see. However, having passed The Barber's Shop on several occasions, I made a mental note to make use of their services the next time my hair inevitably reached the point where I ceased to look like a human and more closely resembled some sort of yeti. The Barber's Shop is the best of both worlds, modern and sleek, but designed to evoke the classic, traditional barber shop feel of a bygone era (complete with spinning pole outside!). They've got various Birmingham City Football Club merchandise on the wall, giving the place a real local feel. The look isn't the only thing reminiscent of days gone by; the prices are fantastic, just £7 for a gents cut. I've never even had to wait when using The Barber Shop, but should you have to, there's a great selection of magazines and some cushiony sofas to occupy you. One of Birmingham's best.

If you're looking for a quick trim and back on the streets, this probably isn't the place for you. If you're looking for an experience of a traditional Barber with attention to detail, you'll enjoy it here. When I visited on a weekday lunchtime, the two Barbers were busy with existing customers and they didn't rush to finish their work. When I was finally seated, the Barber placed cotton wool around my neck and regularly used a hairdryer to remove cut hair - meaning that when I left I had no loose hair on my clothes. The conversation was friendly and after a 15 minute cut and shave, I was delighted to find the cost of my cut was just £6. A bargain! Again, if you're in a rush then this probably isn't the place for you. If you just want to relax and feel the attention to detail, you'll enjoy this Barbers.

However I hate it because it's always so busy. This Saturday was no exception as it was really busy in there. I got the impression that they may have been short staffed but I wasn't made aware of any issues. Once seated, I was offered a hot drink and sat reading magazines for around 20 minutes. Once taken over to meet my stylist, she went through the style I had in mind, agreed it would work and then sent me off to have my hair washed before I returned to have it cut. The salon wasn't the most friendly I've ever been in and I wasn't made to feel overly welcome but it was OK for a trim.

Menz Barber Shop is a recent addition to Kings Heath High Street. There are plenty of barbers…read morelocated in Kings Heath, but there are also lots of heads and hair that needs to be cut. I guess everything in life has a balance. One thing about Menz I don't understand is how they balance their books by charging only 4 pounds for a men's hair cut. A men's haircut is 4 pounds, a child's is 3.50, a pensioners is 3.50 and they also offer threading of facial hair for 2.50. Now I'm not quite at the age where I have excess hair growing out of my facial orifices, but my eye brows can get a bit bushy from time to time. To avoid looking like the mono-brow racing hero Nigel Mansell, I came here to have my eyebrows threaded. The experience was quick and painless and they did a really good job. I didn't need a haircut, but noticed that other patrons were having well placed styles put upon their heads. At 4 pounds for a cut you can't go wrong on price. Don't expect a Vidal Sasson cut; just expect a nice clean haircut.

On his lst visit I think my husband paid £10 for his hair cut.

They do not seem to be capable of cutting a new style, such as a bob, as they are not trained, or are not willing to adapt their style. A basic cut only, without washing, costs £15. I'm not sure how they would cope for anything more elaborate but they do this just fine.
