It's a modern, casual place with ample comfortable seating. Ricardo (super awesome human being) took our orders and helped me select mine. He recommended the Herby Chicken and Steak Pie. I went with Steak Pie. My friend ordered a burger with chips. Her food came and about an hour later, I was still waiting. The people who sat down about 30 minutes after me got an apology on the delay of their food (one of the guys ordered the same thing as me) and got their food before me. I had to flag the server (and later manager) down to inquire about my food, which I received a vague answer initially about it being redone and the pie that the man next to me received was indeed his. I honestly don't care who's name is on the pie, I just wanted my food, especially since I ordered way before he did. The manager apologized and dealt with my concern calmly. He made sure my food was delivered personally shortly. Ricardo also followed up and apologized for the situation. Abeit the whole mix up, the Steak Pie was sublime. The upper crust was a smidge overdone for my liking, but the filling was mighty tasty. Even the veggies and mashed potato was tasty all the way through. Wished I had 2 bellies, so I could squeeze every morsel in. Despite the situation, I thoroughly enjoyed my food, Ricardo was amazing, and the manager dealt with the situation cordially--I'd come back.

Friendly service and good beer were complemented by some fine food, possibly a little pricey for a pub but well worth it. Breaded mushrooms and breaded whitebait for starters were in plentiful supply and went down well; the grilled gammon also disappeared with some speed though by this time my companion was flagging and had to leave some chips. I did better, my sirloin steak being one of the best I've ever eaten tender, succulent and cooked exactly as I like it, a little to the rare side of medium rare. I was eventually defeated though, and also had to leave some of the splendid chips despite my best efforts not to. Added to a couple of pints of rather nice beer, George Gale's 'Seafarers' bitter', this all made for a very pleasant evening. Definitely somewhere to visit again if I'm in the area.

Whether it's food and drink or just drink you're after this place is great for both, just don't forget to bring friends ;-) I've been here a few times now so I'm slowly working through the menu and it's all been delicious so far, pizza goes down especially well. Also worth mentioning the lovely fresh fruit and crepes you can have for dessert, very very good. If I was being criticial I could mention it's a bit more expenive than other places in the area but I never come away unsatisfied.

Ordered honey pot for dessert which may be one of the top desserts we've enjoyed anywhere in the world...Lava Cake @ Commanders Palace New Orleans being #1 but this was close enough to knock it off it's pedestal. The ganache filled edible clay pot with toffee crumbs, chocolate and ice cream magnificently presented and every bit as delicious as it looked. We live in the US but I know all future desserts will be graded against this one. Staff warn friendly and inviting. Hard to imagine a better pub experience anywhere.

It was a great way to spend a sunny day in Southampton. The crowd is diverse and super cool, there were families out on the hillside enjoying the sun and the marina view, there were a bunch of younger people enjoying the good weather as well. We walk up to the host stand and are immediately told it's reservation only. "Great! I have a reservation." "Oh sorry! Head upstairs and they will take care of you." We go up a gorgeous staircase and find ourselves just standing there for a while. Someone finally comes over, confirming we have a reservation and we sit. Our server comes right away, drops two empty glasses (for water) and menus and immediately asks if we are ready. Nope, you just gave me the menu right now, I am not ready. She leaves and never comes back. She forgot about us. She apologized but it never got better. It was half an hour before we got our pints. Our appetizer came 15 min after this and our food came in another 30 min. It took an hour and 15 minutes to get a burger and chicken. Thankfully, the food was good. Oh, and those empty glasses for water, stayed empty until they finally remembered to bring us water, about 1 hour in. And before you ask, yes, I hailed other servers and asked for the water and the status of our meals. They seemed annoyed they had to pick up her slack and maybe kind of took it out on us by doing things for their tables first before ours, which I understand but still kind of sucks. Would I come back? Absolutely not. However, it's so pretty and such a cool building and the beers and food were good so I do recommend checking it out.
