Did not try and make the best out of dim lights and bottles of wine or anything. We were happy to sort sandwiches, or anything, but he was just browned off. Went this past weekend 10/4/14 and evil women stared down her nose at us and inquired "what do you want ladies"? There was a party of 10 of us (all adults) coming to look for dinner, and instead of, sorry we are fully booked, perhaps a drink at the bar, wait list etc. it was a genuine dismissal. With that kind of service we will NEVER be back to see if the food was any good or not. Bad review for the blond woman who was SO unpleasant on Saturday night.

Friendly service and good beer were complemented by some fine food, possibly a little pricey for a pub but well worth it. Breaded mushrooms and breaded whitebait for starters were in plentiful supply and went down well; the grilled gammon also disappeared with some speed though by this time my companion was flagging and had to leave some chips. I did better, my sirloin steak being one of the best I've ever eaten tender, succulent and cooked exactly as I like it, a little to the rare side of medium rare. I was eventually defeated though, and also had to leave some of the splendid chips despite my best efforts not to. Added to a couple of pints of rather nice beer, George Gale's 'Seafarers' bitter', this all made for a very pleasant evening. Definitely somewhere to visit again if I'm in the area.

This has also lead to the problem of very long waiting times for food. Having said that, if you have the time, the food is very good. The fish cakes with chilli dip are very good and the hill of nachos is amazing, if you don't mind getting in a mess! The pub itself is quite traditional looking with lots of wood and brass, which is a nice change from trendy tub chairs and lots of glass. The staff are usually quite friendly but sometimes you might be served by someone that's having an off day. I really like this pub and if I have a long lunch I often meet friends there.

Ordered honey pot for dessert which may be one of the top desserts we've enjoyed anywhere in the world...Lava Cake @ Commanders Palace New Orleans being #1 but this was close enough to knock it off it's pedestal. The ganache filled edible clay pot with toffee crumbs, chocolate and ice cream magnificently presented and every bit as delicious as it looked. We live in the US but I know all future desserts will be graded against this one. Staff warn friendly and inviting. Hard to imagine a better pub experience anywhere.

The pub does good food; lots of specials on the board including fish and pint/half pint prawns etc. The service can be slow if they're busy. They have lots of tables and happily reserve for you. Some dishes were excellent and probably deserve a 5/5 score but others although fine didn't hit the mark and were really 3/5 so I've gone for an overall 4/5. They seem to serve food all day every day. Car park by the pub is small but you can park further along the road and take a short walk back if it's busy. Nice friendly place.

Real homecooked pub food, i.e lasagne, gammon, cottage pie. Friendly service. Be aware as the food is freshly cooked there can be a wait on the food (but it's worth it!)
