The worship is outstanding and the messages are relevant. No matter who is bringing the the message it is powerful and life changing. Although we don't have young children it is obvious that the children are well cared for and excited to be in church. The youth group is active and growing in numbers and in their walk with God. The church is passionate about helping with local needs, Guatemala, Ukrain, and a couple other countries. This is a large church. The bulletin was full of activities and events. While congregation covered all age groups, there appeared to be a lot of young couples and families. The service was traditional. I particularly enjoyed their organ and choir. The service was even a little interactive in that everyone opened their bibles to read along during the readings and the sermons. I felt comfortable in a dressy sundress. Men were wearing nice clothing; mostly collared shirts and ties. I would not be surprised if they wore full suits in the winter. Parking was limited and it appears that they have hired a shuttle service to rectify this. I would suggest arriving a little early. They have visitor gift bags and treats for visiting kids. We didn't pick one up but it was an appreciated gesture.

The music is powerful and in different languages, and the preaching is very substantive. Sometimes they have great food after service from many cultures. They also have a small food pantry for anyone in need and have plenty of coffee and food for attendees. Not going to dissect the ministry style or the pastor as evidently that was his last day before heading off to start another church so a review of it going forward will not work. Average age seemed to be about 28 of the crowd I saw. I have a feeling if you're very set in your religious ways you might find this presentation offensive. But it was not. But somehow, the Anchor has really stuck with me for the past couple years. It really is a fellowship, as its name implies. It also isn't your typical, cookie-cutter, Bible Belt church. It's a fellowship of social outcasts (i.e., the people who Jesus hung out with). Being a social outcast myself, I really feel like I belong here. The church leadership consists of tattooed, artsy rockers who are truly filled with the Holy Spirit and on fire for Christ. Here is what you need to know before you go: Website: http://www.fpcnashville.org What's the worship music like? hymns. very traditional. What's the speaking like? Pastor Todd Jones's style is expository. He loves to include stories from his life. He has an unusual voice which can be hard to get used to at first. And I have heard the same sermon preached more than once on different occasions. What's the childcare like? FPC has a great children's ministry run by Deb O'Brien. They have a program called "Noah's Ark" that is Montessori style teaching during the worship services for kindergarten aged children. Even younger children have a great nursery program run by paid professionals. What's your favorite thing? FPC has one of the best youth groups around and I was lucky enough to be a part of it. They also have tons of opportunities for mission work. What would you change? I love FPC and the people there but the worship style is just not for me. I also feel like the elders can be pretty stuck in their ways. Can I wear jeans? nope. don't even try. i snuck away from working in the nursery one Sunday to attend church. I was in my jeans and I got nasty looks from those elders I was telling you about. The worship services are at 8:30 & 11:00 with 9:45 Sunday school and donuts in between.

The groups were specific not just an adult class but a college class, a post-college adult class etc. The other review was spot on in her description of the pastor and the service. He does have a weird voice pattern and it would take me awhile to get use to it. I would need to attend a few more times, though, before I would be willing to critique his abilities. The dress code is dressy. 98% of the men were wearing suits and the other 2% were wearing collars. The women looked nice and were dressed as nice as the men. Even the children were in their best clothes. I will definitely attend this church again. The congregation was obviously very active and there were tons of opportunities to get involved
