Extremely overpriced washing machines that are always malfunctioning. No bathroom for customers. No one there. Obnoxious note on the wall under a video camera to talk to the camera or call. The people making you pay rip off prices to do laundry are too lazy and cheap to have staff present. One time I was using the dryer 15 minutes before closing time (which constantly changes to earlier hours) and the employee told me she wanted to go home and close. I still had 15 minutes before the place was supposed to close. The no bathrooms for customer is HUGE. No respect for the customers they are ripping off. read more

I came here today to do laundry for the first time in years- no reflection on the place at all but I had moved. I've just been utterly disappointed by the laundromats closer to where I live so decided today, I'm coming back to The Wash Tub and so glad I did. Nice, clean, quiet, very reasonably priced (the laundromats I was going to cost more. I'm back, baby!!! Only bone to pick and it's minor but could be a hazard: the stairs going in and out are a bit dicey to navigate for a senior or someone with navigation peoblems- thar could be improved somehow but it was always like this so I guess noone fell yet. read more

My friends, this laundromat deserves an award for the number of times I have been here after vowing not to return. Upgraded the star for the lowered drying prices (8 minutes/quarter) and the new change machine that consistently does provide change. Unfortunately, as a laundromat, The Wash Tub is kind of bad at it. The washers are still mostly broken, they don't have anything larger than a triple loader in service and the dryers are actually terrible. The only really good thing is that they have a food vending machine and patrons don't really stay inside, but I really struggle with whether my clothes are actually clean. The photos are not updated on the yelp page. They have newer machines and I haven't seen any mold in any of the machines. The place is always clean and tidy. There is also sanitizer to wipe down the fold station. The attendants are super nice as well. They have recently upgraded their snack machine My one complaint is that only the new black washers have hot water. I just wish this was posted, so that I knew from the start. read more

I lived in different parts of the area here in East Rock over the last 8 years. One thing has remained consistent and that's this laundromat. Literally Ive come here every weekend for the last 2 years. If this place had any bad qualities that I found unacceptable I would not still be going here. There are brand new machines. As well as the dryers. Which are so fast for a dollar you could dry a 15 lb 20 lb load. Now I don't know about the negative reviews. So what... the front desk is old carpentry. I'm not here to look at linoleum or formica. I'm here to get my clothes washed. If you want to get ripped off by somebody with a smile on their face go up the street to bubble and squeak. They'll charge you for hot water and give you cold. I'm very particular about quality of service, I'll tell a crooked business owner to his face that he's a crook. But not here, I'm satisfied. If you want light traffic, friendly people, clean machines and friendly help, this would be the place. (Oh I got one bone to pick, staff is not present more often than they are) read more

If you're doing your own wash, a word of advice is to stay away from the triple load machines in the back, they don't work that well. Clean, quiet, and straightforward. My laundromat experience in a large western city was that it was necessary to have a quirky, dark sense of humor to endure doing laundry, so it came as a pleasant revelation that here it is possible to sit in serene quiet with a book, while the wash reliably tumbles its way to completion. Prices don't strike me as especially high compared to where I used to live, and I'm definitely saving money by having access to dryers that work the first time. Clean, airy, quiet. 3-load washers are $4.50, 2-load washers are $3.50, single load washers are $3, and dryers are large and spacious at $0.25 per six minutes; all in all, a little expensive, but may be worth the premium if you live in East Rock (especially if you don't have a car). Nominally, the 3-load washers seem like the best deal, but I have a growing suspicion that they don't work quite as well as the 2-load dryers. The employees are very helpful and courteous, and there is free WiFi. Only two benches available inside but they never seem to fill up. read more

Under no circumstances should you patronize the Wash Tub. I wish that I could give them negative stars. I'm new to New Haven. This is the first dry cleaner I tried. I will not go back under any circumstances. I dropped by clothing off on a Thursday and was told it would be returned the following Wednesday. I came back at the close of business on the Wednesday I was promised my clothes. They were not there. I returned mid-day the next day. Half of my clothes were not there. I am hopeful that I will receive all of my clothing tomorrow. That means it will have taken them a full week to turn around 6 shirts, one suit and a few blouses. The price I was charged for dry cleaning that takes this long was absurd and the service I received after I showed up two separate times to pick up clothes I was promised was terrible. I'm hard pressed to think of anything that could make this laundromat nicer. The Wash Tub is a lovely place to do laundry. They have many, many machines, and I have never had to wait even one moment. It's bright and very clean (I've seen the owners meticulously cleaning on many occasions). They have free wifi and benches inside and outside to sit on while you wait. They also have a "Wash Club," which rewards you for recording your washes. Plus they offer free candy at the front! :) The machines are fast and always seem to do my laundry well. They also have a coin machine, which never seems to be out of quarters (because they kindly only let customers use it, which is great for customers). Overall, it's as enjoyable an experience as you could ask for. I've also had my laundry done by them before, and I find it to be affordable and well done. They fold everything nicely and wrap your load in brown paper for you. Great for times when you can't do your own. The dry cleaning has been perfectly fine. It's a little pricey, but worth it because of their East Rock location. Also, I've left clothes there for ages (a whole summer!) and they were kind enough to hold onto them for me and remind me to pick them up. Everyone who works here is very friendly, especially the husband and wife owners. I'd recommend this spot to anyone needing to do their laundry in the area. read more

This place is more expensive than other laundromats and does not always have somebody working. When the woman who does work is there, she is great, but it's a real problem if the machines do not work and then you end up paying double when you should not have to. One time, my clothes got "skunked" by some idiot who put skunked clothes in the dryer. Eventually, I got the smell out, but if someone had been working, they would have caught that idiot. After that, I never went back!!! I only go to laundromats where the workers are always there. read more

This is a fairly clear, well-lit laundry. The prices are steep: washes are $3! If you are doing multiple loads, combine them in the oversize dryers and pay by the minute. The internet is very slow, bordering on useless. read more

STAY AWAY FROM WASH TUB - Moved to New Haven/East Rock a few months and started dropping off dress shirts and blouses here for dry-cleaning - despite the high prices - as I heard they were good. Sometimes when I went in to pick up my dry-cleaning I would use their change machine for quarters worth a FEW DOLLARS for laundry at home.. however today to my utter surprise I was told that the change machines is for laundry customers "only" and even though I was spending far more on dry cleaning than the people that use the washing machines, they told me I cannot use the change machine!! I was shocked at the rudeness - they charge almost $9 to dry clean a shirt, which I have paid multiple times a month, but prevented me from $4 worth of quarters once a month. I came to do my laundry. As far as I could tell, there was not free wifi as is stated here. If its busy there can also be limited room to fold your clothes. Overall though it was perfectly fine. The staff were nice and helpful (helped recommend time for the dryer and whether or not I should split up my loads into more dryers), and the machines did their jobs!
