I love the water. So much so, I actually live along it (makes it very easy to check in on yelp!) Its a nice path to walk along in Stockbridge. It's also a stunning running path, I usually enter from Dean Path and its like stepping into somewhere entirely different- its luscious, green, and the sunlight always manages to shine through. I think the water is hard to miss since walking along it can take you all over Edinburgh, but if you're up for an adventure just stick with it and see where you end up- I've done it a few times and I've never been disappointed!

Why did I wait so long to write this review.. I don't know. I haven't walked the breath of this wonderful piece of nature and urban mix, but I sure have walked it many times! It is difficult to add what has already been said by my fellow Yelpers over the years and i will only try to describe the effect that WoL has on myself. It helps me escape the city. I even can get as far to state that it sometimes helps me forget what decade (century) we are currently in. Walking here on a quiet evening or early morning gives you the impression of a time warp. (without pulling you knees in tight..). I tend to imagine what it would be like walking here in more historical times and you know what - it works. The bridges, the nature, the buildings and sometimes even the people you encounter - they bring up images of a long forgotten past. The walk may be the same distance or on the same location, but the images and experiences it evokes differ every time. They are improving the waterway and building flood defences on several parts of the water. Animals can be found here like fish, storks, otters and many birds and butterflies. Oh and mosquito's.. or worse midges.. But that doesn't happen often and hey.. it's nature. I can easily imagine that people have made part of Water of Leith their own. I tend to prefer the Shore to Stockbridge - as I am most familiar with it. One time Anita & I walked home from the Stockbridge back to the shore start on sunset and dusk with an orange & pink sky. The silhouetted trees, the blackbird and owls and the sheer emptiness transported us into a world of our own and it was one of the most romantic and personal bubble walks I have ever had. *deep sigh*

Lovely, nature in the middle of a busy city. Good for walks, short cuts and forgetting your worries. take your time here and a camera.

The Water of Leith is one of Edinburgh's gems! Running from the Pentland Hills, right through the city to the Firth of Forth, the river slithers through many parts of the city including Gorgie, Slateford, Stockbridge and finally, Leith. Once used to power the old shipping and paper industries of Leith, the water is now used as a place to relax and enjoy! The river is a marvel when the sun is bouncing off it, and furthermore it is a place of life! It is home to many birds and insects, and even fish (very typical for a river, but not so much for a river in the middle of the city!). The water of Leith adds so much to the city, and it even has a visitor centre, located in the south of the city. The river is looked after by the local conversation trust, and hats off to them, because they help keep this gem what it is...one of Edinburgh's main features!

We took the one on the edge of the cliff and it was steep, so maybe avoid that one. There is one that takes a dirt path that is a little less steep to get up to Arthur's Seat. This summit provides a beautiful panoramic view of Edinburgh. Open 24/7, it's definitely worth a visit (maybe even more than once!)

There are a few different ways to make your way up to the top. For first timers, I would suggest taking the route near Holyrood Palace which, while not easy, is more gentle than the route near Pollock Halls. My first time up, I took the latter and ended up climbing up boulders - which felt a bit precarious. No matter which way you go up, bring lots of water and wear shoes with good traction. You will definitely feel like you accomplished something when you reach the top. And, as I mentioned, the views are spectacular! At the summit, I always make a point to touch both the white triangulation pillar and the bronze geographical indicator. On our most recent trip, it was April so the weather was perfect! The previous time, we hiked it in August when it was a little too warm and we were greeted by swarms of midges at the top!

I didn't climb any high hills for a bigger view, that's something I can go back to the Pentland Hills and do another day. Just walking about in the forest was pretty cool, i like that kind of thing plus it was so relaxing and peaceful. There was a sign that I passed, it was funny because someone altered the sign and it said "no parking, pissing place only" lol hehe. Did you knew that Amy Soldiers do exercise in Pentland Hills with firing there guns, a sign posted for warning, just in case you get a bullet in you bum. A great atmosphere at the Pentlands as everybody would pass you and say hello, it was nice, everyone was enjoying there day out. Ideal for walking your dog's or just hanging out with family/friends. Would consider going back again sometime very soon. https://socialsandi1.com/2018/08/05/pentlandhills-regional-park/

Well, I am so lucky to live in a town surrounded by "mountains" which are called the Pentland Hills. There are several lakes/ water reservoirs in the Pentland Hills Regional Park which are accessible using several walking routes. We walked towards the Glencorse reservoir. A good start or end for the journey is the Flotterstone Inn and the Information centre nearby. Take your rucksack, get good walking boots, warm clothes and off it goes. Follow the paths which are clearly marked and you can't get lost. You might even pass an occasional waterfall! For the travelers without a car, you can hop on a bus and get off at Flotterstone Inn (but be careful - buses are a rare occurrence and you could be stranded) Lovely place!

It is surrounded by trees. If you look above the trees you'll see how modern architecture blends with the very old buildings. In the park is a playground for toddlers and a little older children. A short-game 36-hole golf course is here with a neat history listed on the signs. You walk on at no cost carrying a wedge and putter and practice/play as long as you want. We saw two girlfriends playing, and two businessmen in shirts and ties playing during their lunch hour. There is also a dog park. Take a walk here on the paved paths.

I mean yes, it nice and green, and it's cool having a space like this in the city, but in my view there are other awesome places like Inverleith Park, and the Botanic Gardens (obvious I'm from Stockbridge much?) that aren't such a hike to get to but have much better views. Also less people which I like. Walking through, this place is quite busy with people sitting with their lunch, drumming, playing with their children or walking through to get to their next destination. Overall a nice space that is easily accessible, and would probably be a favorite of mine if I lived on that side of town, but it's not so in blowing that I need to go out of my way to return.
