It feels more like a city park than a quiet garden. I personally would not return, though I see why neighbors enjoy having green space nearby. When I visited, a large group had formed a circle that occupied an entire section of the small rose garden. There were no signs indicating the area was reserved, and their gathering unintentionally made the space feel closed off to other visitors. In shared public spaces like this, especially in smaller gardens, it is important for any group, whether local or new to the community, to be mindful of the park's norms and not treat the small public garden like it's only for them. Many people visiting or living here may not be aware of how these spaces are typically used, so a little consideration goes a long way in keeping the park welcoming for everyone.

I grew up with Brookdale Park. I would bike over with Daddy - or in the beginning, trike over - and…read morewe would ride the paths together. Down the little dirt trail by the stream near Watchung Ave., see if I could make it down the ditch under the bridge, then back up near the duck pond to look at the birds. Over to the playground, down the tall metal slide (burning in the hot sun), on and under the wooden playground (splinters and the occasional scary bee), and riding the swings, both pony-themed and regular. Slow forward to 2025. Brookdale still has the same paved paths. The old dirt trail gradually became a bunch of bumps for dirt bikes instead of my regular bike. The duck pond was filled in years ago but is now a wetlands area. The playground has been modernized a couple of times and is now modern, safe plastic. Still pony-themed swings. The old gravel track is now modern plastic for running or similar sports - though there was something special about sliding my bike around the turns on that gravel track. You just can't ride on a running track. There's an annual softball tournament there we still play, and the fields really haven't changed, though I've heard it's been getting tougher to get things reserved properly. So it's still a wonderful park, but without the ducks and with the complications to holding in park events, the fifth star has gone away with my childhood. That's OK. It will always be 5 stars in my heart.

Cameron field, where baseball, softball and other field games gather and "The Baird center" which is where all of the community and recreation affairs can be handled such as registering for youth team sports and tennis lessons. I have many memories of this park where much goes on in the spring and summer including hosting festivals and used to host 4th of July festivities. Still a great place to pass through and the most sprawled and varied park in town.

The first part closer to Bloomfield Ave. Is more open field and walking. Within the past few years a new playground, There plenty of benches in this area is closer to Bloomfield ave. Parents bring their kids often, so as soon at that opened it was getting a lot of use. There is a wide-open area for soccer. In the back corner there is a little dog park. On the other part of the park there less open field as there is a little Brook that runs through it. There is a small track, basketball court and a recently built mini water park with fountains that gets a lot of use in the summer. The park is nice for walking through. There aren't a whole lot of benches on the Glenwood ave. part so it isn't the best for people watching but more for a nice stroll. Even on the nicest days it isn't too crowded except for maybe the court and soccer field.

Grace Lord Park has something for multiple kinds of Instagrammers. Dystopian audiences may enjoy…read morethe graffiti and occasional broken glass found closer to the Boonton Iron Works, while those into more cheerful scenes might like the waterfalls, trees and rocks. It might be unclear what counts a trail, but please be careful as you try to get those rushing river videos. The elevation changes that make Boonton fascinating also mean there might not be as many park entrances as you'd like, but the new bridge certainly helps. Boonton has been a staycation mainstay, partly because of its odd weekday-only train schedule but also because of its unique structure and mood. I can't think of any place in New Jersey that feels more like upstate New York, but if I'm wrong please let me know.

With the waterfall going near the gazebo, trees all around, it is a beautiful location for events small and medium. (Large events would have to be up in the Township anyway, no huge spaces in Boonton proper.) I have been to several of those events and seen dozens - even hundreds - of people enjoying themselves, relaxing in sun and shade, playing on the modern and safe playground, walking up and down the Rockaway River trail with the newly restored 19th century bridge. I highly recommend anyone visiting Boonton (family, friends, restaurants, real estate...) make Grace Lord a part of their day - along with walking through downtown - to understand what makes this town special.

The park itself is large with and as such spreads out in many directions so it's surrounded by residential houses, has one of Maplewood's library's within and on the other side is Springfield Ave. - Maplewood's main street, or one of them. Many events take place here including the above mentioned concerts, neighborhood association gatherings and is busy with park goers. Other efforts are put into the park as I recall hearing of a bike repair station as well as a skate park, which I did not see, but the fact that they're looking to use the park for things like this make it and the town the much nicer.
