Grace Fellowship of Lakewood - Sermon Series from September 2-16, 2018

I found grace fellowship here on Yelp and I checked out their beliefs on their website. So I decided to go because I saw the church seemed to be firm on both truth and grace. I had a wonderful time at the worship service. I was greeted warmly by people who have genuine interest in me. It made me feel very welcome the message from Pastor John was rooted in the Word, And included the gospel. The worship music was very good. If I had the pleasure of calling Lakewood my home, this would be my church.

My husband and I have been attending Grace Fellowship for three years. What struck us when we first…read moreattended was how friendly and loving the congregation was. They were welcoming and it was not difficult to make friends. We joined a Life Group, which was the best thing we did, as we got to know people of our peer group well through bi-weekly studies, fellowship, and prayer time. They honor families and celebrate events together, like baby showers, wedding, funerals, and graduations. On one of the negative reviews here, several comments were made about the pastor, which I do not find to be true at all. We have found him to be well versed in scripture and enjoy his sermons. If you are looking for a small to midsized church where you can get to know the folks, this is a wonderful place to go.

A very nice local church with a medium sized congregation. Very friendly and welcoming staff who…read moreremember regular attendees and greet new visitors promptly. One note, Yelp needs to update their records. This church was previously operating out of a rented school building, but they recently merged with an older church that had an existing building but was suffering from declining membership numbers. After the merger, the new church is now known as 'The Bridge Church at Bear Creek' and is operating out of the building that the older church owned. If you live at the Dartmouth Woods apartments across the street, this location is incredibly convenient, as you can attend church right across the street! If I do have one complaint... it would be the way they do communion. It is very old fashioned, with chalices of wine and loaves of bread. I guess some of the older folks probably like that sort of thing, but it seems very odd for a non-denominational church with a very modern style in most other respects. Also, the way people just put their hands right on the bread and rip off chunks of it is a little gross... just wait until flu season comes back around and they will be changing the way they do this for sure!

I really liked him a lot. He retired and two senior ministers shared the duties. I went a few times after Dr. Roger left. It's always different when the head minister changes. I've had mostly wonderful experiences there. I took classes, too. This is not the church for evangelical Christians. If you're looking for guilt, fire and brimstone, this is not the church for you. This is about Law of Attraction and welcomes all. You won't hear any specific politics from the pulpit. It's based in love and peace, and honors the earth. Because it's universal, there won't be a lot of Jesus talk except as he was a great teacher who taught love. The few not so great experiences I've had there were based on who was teaching. Just quit and wait for a different teacher. I live an hour away now. Today, we drove down for a labyrinth walk for peace, aligning with groups and churches around the world. It was wonderful. I cried, realizing how much I've missed this place the past five years. I don't know what's going on administratively and frankly, I'm too old to care. Science of Mind feeds my soul, and that's what counts. For those who are naysayers, understand that the pandemic affected everything including attendance. They've adapted as best as they could. Go there if you want a practice. Go there if you understand that we are responsible for our lives. Go there if you're hopeful and want to join a positive community.

Those are the principles that Westwood's operates on. For several years now Westwoods has participated in the Advent Conspiracy to take back Christmas by - worshiping more, spending less, giving more, and loving all. This truly has changed by Christmas season for the better. This year we donated food to a food bank, cloths and other necessities to foster kids, and medical care, educational expenses, and micro loans to people in the slums of Uganda. Westwoods is not one of those mega churches with an attached gymnasium. It is also no one of those churches with a beautiful old building with stained glass windows. Actually, Westwoods doesn't even have a building of its own - it meets in the music center at CCU. But that is one of the things that makes it wonderful - Westwoods is fully devoted to serving the needy and donating as much of its resources as possible to those who really need it. Westwoods has a fairly small, young congregation (lots of people in their late 20s and early 30s but a good size college age population and plenty of people in all other age ranges as well). The services always start with a great worship session led by the band playing contemporary Christian music with some traditional hymns as well. The sermon is always good, relevant, and entertaining. The lead pastor Rick speaks most Sundays but there are guest speakers as well and they are all great. The bible is always the foundation of the sermon and we always spend some time in God's word each week but all the speakers do a great job of bring the message home and making it understandable. Westwoods is a very easy church to attend even if you have not grown up in the church and aren't used to all the "churchy" stuff. Regardless of where you are on your spiritual journey it is a great place to get to know more about God and Jesus and what being a Christian really means.

I can't say that I've ever been to a church that is more genuine and welcoming than Scum. The evening service starts off with a time of worship, followed by a community meal, and then onto the teaching segment. The worship band is never "flashy", which adds to the charm and humble nature of this church. Pastor Mike's teaching is from the heart and is easy to understand. Scum's church building is at 9th and Kalamath. It is from the late 1800's and was shut down by Denver's code enforcement. Scum isn't having financial problems as the other reviewer mentioned; but when the city closes your doors after being in a building for a couple of years, then there is a cost of hundreds of thousands of dollars to reopen those doors - yes, there will be some need for donations. Currently services are being held at other locations in Denver. In fact the money that churchgoers give regularly is invested back into the community in the form of homeless outreach, and other neighborhood projects. The staff raises their own support. Like I said at the outset, I love Scum. Every week I drive an hour to attend!
