Mama Roza's was recommended to us by a nurse at the RAH and I went to meet with Esta (Mama Roza's daughter) and immediately fell in love with the space and the compassion shown to me and my family. Not only were they extremely understanding and accommodating, they have created a wonderful community and familial atmosphere of caring and respect (a quick message out to the community and they helped me get a playpen for my daughter so she had somewhere to sleep at oir AirBnB). My daughter absolutely loves the daycare, which is incredible, themed curriculum that is shared with parents in advance that includes experiential learning amd STEM activities (which as an educator is a huge plus in my books) and freshly prepared healthy meals and snacks daily by their in-house chef. Every one of their staff I have interacted with are both knowledgeable and professional (Huge thank you to Esta and Ruth for going above and beyond to support us) and treat my daughter as their own. The kitchen had a good number of features and the bathrooms were re-labeled to be gender neutral (not sure if only for the event or as a more permanent thing) which was stellar. The hall is accessible via an alleyway from the neighbourhood and has a small amount of parking nearby along with a nice little playground beside it. The mural on the building is a nice touch too.

The ice is professionally hand made (not a common art, for sure!) and well maintained. There is supervision at the rink at certain times on weekdays and weekends. The Family Day celebration here in February is worth a visit, with horse-drawn carriages, skating, food, and fireworks to top things off in the evening. The skating rink was recently renovated. When a rink attendant is present, there are washroom and changing facilities. Skating is free to community league members, and I think there is a nominal charge for non-members. Support this community and have some winter fun outdoors!

I was sent to Crestwood for my elementary round. What a nice place! I grew p not far from here and always wondered how Crestwood differed from Parkview, where I attended. The kids were very sweet and the teachers knew what they were doing. One of the teachers who was there at that time was Dave Eggen, who became an MLA for a number of years with the NDP party, and is now the Executive Director of Friends of Medicare. Many of the teachers back then were on the younger side, had lots of energy, and seemed to enjoy what they were doing.

Kepler Academy is focused on exploratory education from an early start. They've developed a curriculum focused on your child's cognitive, emotional, mental and physical development through exploration, creativity and play. This really shows when you walk into the facility and see the work that has gone into furnishing the place (with sustainable furniture from Natural Pod) to the interactive, tech-enabled & educational toys selected based on STEM. The care providers are hand selected and trained well on the Kepler vision and I've heard wonderful things about the care since. My child does not go to this facility (yet) but I know it's important to be able to keep tabs on the child so Kepler even has their own app where parents can track their child's progress, communicate with staff and see updates about their child through the day. Also of note, Kepler will be opening two new facilities this summer - one in College Plaza near the University of Alberta and another downtown in the Standard Life Building. Our son (4 yrs) moved from…read moreanother newer child care facility in Sherwood park to Kepler at the beginning of January 2020. Since this transition he has grown emotionally and intellectual. We first noticed his whining stopped, his listening improved, he started communicating his feelings, sharing actively and energeticly about his day. We attribute these positive changes to the teachers, their control of the classroom, the scheduled learning, and focused independent attention he has been receiving. In addition with the very healthy meal plan that is freshly cooked daily and offered to our son his willingness to try new foods has increased exponentially. We have seen our son engage in his learning toys at home, creating and building, writing and drawing and wanting to learn more and asking inquisitive questions. His mood at pick up is positive and on the ride home he chats my ear off, which is a big change from his cranky and request for quite in the car when I would pick him up from the old child care facility. The staff is amazing, they definitely enjoy what they do and care about your child's development. They communicate daily with you on your child's progress and have a posted monthly lesson plan that is updated as completed. If you are not happy with your current care facility or want your child to receive fresh health homemade food like smoothies and tuna with avacodo sandwiches, oatmeal cookie etc or you want your child to grow interpersonal kepler is the place for you! I give them the highest of recommendation as they have throughly impressed me and have done great for my son.
