The TV tower and dome from our hotel room.
    Philip F.

My family and I stayed at The Westin Grand recently on a weekend trip to Berlin. The hotel was beautiful and we had great views of the Brandenburg Gate and the TV tower. It's an ideal location in the city with a great proximity to the Berlin Mall, Potsdamer Platz, CheckPoint Charlie, and more. Our room was on a very busy street, however, we heard no street noise with the windows closed. The only reason for not giving this hotel a fifth star was we were told they'd be able to accommodate my sons who have food allergies and they could not. There was no milk or bread alternative. It was disappointing for a five-star luxury hotel.

Oh, the Westin. I generally love Westin hotels, this one being no different. The location here is great as it's in walking distance to a bunch of shops, restaurants and the train station. The hotel itself is grand! It's big and beautiful and the staircase is just so pretty. The open layout makes it seem much larger than it is. My room was spacious and I was on the top floor so I had a little balcony with a nice view. I stay at a lot of hotels, 3-4 each month and this one, and this particular Westin, for some reason, has the BEST comforter I have ever used. Better than the one I have at home. I was trying to look for a tag on it to see what brand it is so I could buy one but I think it's their own for the hotel. It was amazing and so darn comfortable. I went down to the breakfast buffet the next morning. My company gets a discount of 50% off so I figured I'd get some coffee and toast in the morning. The buffet was amazing but it was 16 Euros with my discount. Which is still steep for the lack of breakfast I eat. I cannot imagine someone paying 32 for that.

Loved my stay! I traveled solo and felt super safe. The hotel is super nice and modern. No major complaints. The location is very convenient. For my tours, the meeting points were within 20 min walking. There's also a metro station around the block. Loved the location! Breakfast is "included" with your stay, but they do charge you for it- like $7 euros per day. But it was very convenient and good. However, not sure if I would be able to enjoy it for more than 3 days since it's the same thing - they don't change it up at all. I wanted to try out the spa but they said they just had the sauna and no steam room. I did get two massages, but just a back massage since they didn't have time for a full body, yet I was the last appointment and there was plenty of time before they closed. Makes no sense. Anyways, wasn't that good - just got the job done as I was in dire need of a massage. Room service - I ordered the linguine and it was delicious! Look no further - just book your stay here!

Very nice room with updated bath very unique hard wood floor ( Chevron parquet pattern ), 48" Samsung LED TV, coffee makers, small fridge, and heavenly bed/shower. If you got enough dough this is definitely the hotel you want to stay! A+++

Rooms are extremely large for European standards. Am looking forward to sleeping in a heavenly bed, but noticed the bath towels weren't Heavenly branded. Hotel is very pretty and at the entrance has a piece of the Berlin Wall. Outside are heated lamps with chairs and pillows and blankets to people watch and have a drink. Inside the restaurant seemed busy throughout the day. Service is nice, but disappointed that as a platinum premier elite my upgraded room had a view of the roof of the terrace building and street. Yuck!

If you are looking to stay in Berlin in style, be within walking distance of subways, historical sites and restaurants, and you're not afraid of dropping a few extra Euros, then this is a great option. Centrally located in the Mitte neighborhood, you are a stone's throw away from restaurants, cafes, and shopping. When you walk into The Westin Grand, you are greeted with a stunning lobby that seems to always be bustling no matter what time of day or night. The restaurant and bar in the lobby is open late, and is a bit pricey but the quality of the food is very good. I highly recommend their "Milchkaffee", and the burger is also delicious. The rooms at the Westin are nice, clean, to be honest for the price it could be updated (there is a smell that we couldn't quite put our finger on). The service staff is very good, and will visit your room multiple times to make sure you have water, coffee, and they do a complimentary turndown service every night. The amenities at the hotel are pretty nice, they have a beautiful pool and a small fitness center that I was able to use, the hours are from about 7am to 11pm which is convenient if you are on a business trip. There is a nice garden you can walk through that is connected to the hotel, and there is a Spa that is connected to the pool area. It is about 8 Euros to go into the saunas and there is a full service spa menu. The breakfast is quite expensive, running about 30-40 Euros per person, but it is very good. There is a wide array of meats, cheeses, bread options (I loved the pretzel rolls!) eggs, bacon, sausages, fresh juices and smoothies, an omelette station, yogurt, fruit, cereal... there is even champagne! Very good coffee options, they have a machine that offers Espresso drinks and a friendly staff that will bring you a pot of coffee upon arrival. There are windows that overlook the busy street, and the atmosphere is busy and filled with business travelers. I would eat here and make it your breakfast and lunch to justify the price. Overall, a good experience and I would recommend this especially for business travel.

This place is a bit pricey but it is in the middle of everything and the hotel is very nice so it's definitely worth it. Closest subway station is less than 10 minutes away, and there are lots of things to see around the area. They have great service too! Very efficient and professional. Their breakfast was pretty good but it was the same everyday i was there many types of bread, pastries, cheese, fish, vegetables, omelette, fruits, yogurt, eggs&bacon, sausages, etc. 32Euro per person. It's not bad but if you are ok with going out in the morning, it might be better to just explore the restaurants around the hotel. They don't have much of a view. The hotel is only 8 stories high, and there are only buildings around haha i had a view of construction lol I mostly stayed for the location and quality of the room though, and those were perfect so I don't have much to complain about. Wifi was free for me too, I'm not sure why i see a lot of reviews saying it wasn't.

Every trip to Europe I want to experience a five star for a few days, even if we have an apartment (which we did this trip) I love hotel experiences. For Germany I chose the Westin Berlin and it was in the perfect location so that we literally walked to every major site in one day. It may be in the most walkable area of Berlin. There are also many hotels and a mix of high-end and low-end shopping here. We also stayed in the spa suite which meant it functions as a small apartment and the spa area in the suite consisted of a jacuzzi tub and an infinity shower with heated floors, robes and one of my favorite hair lines: Malin&Goetz, as well as built in massage tables and amazing views of the city. Here are a few issues I had though: What's up with Germany and the lack of air conditioning? It's gets hot there, I can't sit inside some restaurants because they're too stuffy. As a supposed 5-star, I definitely thought this suite would have but it did not. Also, they need to update the suite! No one has used an iPhone 4 since Gone Girl's Amy and Nick Dunne graced the screen to show us what true marital dysfunction looks like. There are a million docks but no one who can use. Finally, the furniture needs to be updated (scratched end tables, etc.) and they charge a fortune for food (which is still quite good) and internet. There is also only one TV station in English. I'm a big believer in learning languages before visiting countries, but still it's nice to have a few channels to relax and feel at home. I spent more time watching the French channels because I'm much stronger with that than German. So, while I was impressed I also wished I had tried Sofitel down the block. Oh yeah: Westin beds are always clouds. That seems to be a worldwide staple. It is a nice place to just relax, shop, tour, relax, but I'd rank it at 4 stars.

    Sam S.

I stayed here for a couple of nights and it was my first time here. The service is great, staff polite and courteous and the rooms are nice. My reason for giving this place 3 stars and not 4 is simply because of the quality of the beds. The room I was given was really nice and I was delighted when I walked into the room the first time. The bathroom is well stocked and there big is a bottle of water complimentary each night. The bed however was too soft and as soon as you lay on it you either sink into the middle or if you are on the edge you get this feeling you may fall out anytime. This is certainly not good for me and makes the overall experience less than optimal. After all it is a "bed and breakfast" place :-) most important thing for me in a hotel room is the bed :-)) There are nice facilities in the hotel and the location is amazing. I would return here however will request a room with a firmer mattress and if this is not possible then I am afraid this place is out as far as I am concerned.

    The Grand Foyer

Old World elegance in the heart of Berlin -- a few minute walk from the Brandenburg Gate. The Westin is deserves its five-star rating from the Old World Charm in the lobby to the details in each room. An old East Germany hotel - it has been updated nicely with all the amenities you would expect from the Westin Brand. The location is an easy walk to multiple Christmas markets and downtown shopping along with tourist attractions such as Museum Island and the Tiergarden, The breakfast buffet is several steps above average and well worth a stop before exploring the remainder of the city. Highly recommended.

I figured, breakfast every morning, why not. I chose a river view room and was not disappointed with the view. The glass doors open to a wonderful view of the river, but don't expect a walk on patio. The room was nice and clean with enough drawers and compartments to hang and unpack all my clothes. I was glad I paid for lounge access. Breakfast hours were from 7A-11A; Candy from 11A-3P; Bite size bakery items from 3P-6P; and Appetizers from 6P-9P. Cold, bottled water, soda, and beer are always available from the refrigerator. Coffee and espresso drinks from a machine are always available as well. I really enjoyed the breakfast. Not only was there a buffet style spread, there was also a menu available and staff who would take your order. I ordered a coffee and fried eggs every morning. Perfectly fried and beautifully presented. Then I started ordering the waffles with cherry sauce. So delicious. Who knew I liked cooked cherries. Evenings, I made certain to get a glass of sparkling or red wine. Staff were awesome. They were always friendly and accommodating in the lounge. Cons: 1. There are no USB charging stations for phones. I had to purchase a power adaptor at the concierge for $10 Euros. 2. There were no wash towels in the restroom for the majority of my stay. 3. Bar of soap available 1 night. 4. When I called housekeeping, it kept ringing, so I hung up.

This being said, there are a few downsides to this hotel, which I will get to in a moment. You should probably consider these before you actually decide to book a room here, as they may affect your stay. To begin with, I want to discuss the location. As mentioned, this hotel is perfectly located right in the heart of Berlin. You are easy walking distance to Museum Island, to Berlin Tower, The Bauhaus, cathedrals, shopping, and dining. Plus, you are located right along the Spree River This brings me to their rooms. I really suggest that you book a river-view room. It really makes the whole lodging experience so much better. You open up your window, and there it is, the Spree River. All of the flavor of Berlin flowing right at your feet. As I am speaking about the rooms, there are a few things you need to consider. The rooms are all very well-designed and they're very well-maintained. They're very clean, and every time that you leave your room in the morning you can be sure that it will be made-up by the time you returned. One of the downsides to this hotel, however, and this fact really blows my mind, is that they do not have USB connections in the room. Thus, there is no place to charge your phone, your computer, or anything else unless you have an AC adapter. It's almost hard to believe that a hotel, in this day and age, would not install USB ports. But the Meliá does not. This brings me to one of the negative points about this establishment, providing me with a real bone to pick with this hotel. I live in the States, and expecting there to be USB ports in the room, I didn't bring a European electrical adapter. I have traveled the globe for over forty years and there has never been one time, at one hotel, that I asked for a power converter that it was not happily provided to me (for free). This hotel, however, does not provide those. The only way I could get a power converter, that fed into a USB cable, was to buy one from the concierge. I really think this NOT a good policy! I mean, come on! With the price of the rooms, and the level of the service this hotel supposedly provides, the guest should at least be provided with a power converter if they need one. The other thing I would like to discuss about this hotel is that you should really get a room that offers their Lounge Service. Their Lounge Service is really a good thing. Not excellent. But pretty good. Yes, with this service, your room will cost a little bit more, but you will provided with breakfast every morning and snacks throughout the day and well into the evening. The Lounge changes their offerings at various times during the day. In the morning they offer breakfast style food. And, it's pretty expansive. Not like a full-on breakfast buffet, offered by some hotels, but a nice integrated offerings of various breakfast items. During the day, they offer appetizers. Plus, all day long and into the night you can grab bottled waters, coolers, and beer. In the evening, they provide what they call a pre-dinner offering. With this, the guest are provided with very nice appetizers that are very well prepared. I've noticed that many guests come in there to eat their entire dinner from the Lounge. You can do that if you want. But, that's not really my style. During the afternoon and into the evening, they also offer a nice selection of wine and self-made cocktails. The other minor beef I have with the hotel, and it's kind of amusing, is the fact that for the first three nights of my week-long stay, they did not give us washcloths. But, on the fourth day, amazingly the washcloth did appear. Why didn't they leave washcloths every night, I do not know? One would think that would be standard protocol. Then, the next thing that happened is on the fifth night, the washcloths were gone. So, I don't know what's going on with that? Additionally, in terms of their housekeeping services, they have a note posted in each room that if you need a toothbrush or a razor they will provide them to you. We had run out of toothpaste, so we thought instead of going and buying some from one of the local shops, maybe we could get some from the hotel, since they were offering it. We called housekeeping services a total of seven times over two days and not one time did anybody answer. Thus, I'm not quite sure what they're offering, or who is manning their stations, but we were not provide with what they claim to offer. All this being said, I have good things to say about this hotel. Yes, there is a few downsides, but overall staying at the Meliá was a very pleasant experience.

The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are beautifully appointed, quiet, and clean. Not only did our rooms have full kitchens, they had washer-dryers too -- and balconies. Internet is included. Adina Hotels will be my first choice from now on!

After weeks and weeks of research into hotels in Berlin we finally settled on booking 4 nights at…read morethe Adina in August. It was affordable at just over 100 euros per night; it was centrally located without being beside loads of noisy clubs and restaurants and it had little self-contained apartments rather than basic bedrooms. Our room was very luxurious and we couldn't believe we were staying in such a high quality hotel in the middle of a capital city for such a great price. The bed was huge and insanely comfy. There were two flat screen TV's with English as well as German channels. The kitchen was small but well equipped with a microwave, hob, fridge, toaster and kettle. The bathroom was luxurious with a huge shower and most importantly it was absolutely spotless. The whole room was kept spotless by housekeeping throughout our stay. The restaurant was expensive but the food was delicious and you're so close to so many other restaurants and cafes that you can go your whole stay without having to eat in the restaurant if you don't want to. The pool was small and freezing but it was refreshing to jump into it at the end of a long days sightseeing. There was also a sauna and a Jacuzzi and they were never very busy. The Adina was within walking distance of all major sites including Checkpoint Charlie, Jewish Museum, Jewish Memorial, History Museum, DDR Museum...I could go on! It's also 2 minutes' walk to the underground if you want to venture further afield. We hopped on the underground and then a train to visit some markets and the zoo and it was no problem at all. I highly recommend going for a little apartment type room on a city break such as those offered at Adina rather than a standard hotel room. It was great for days when we didn't want to drag ourselves out of bed for breakfast early because we could just make some tea and toast in our apartment to set us up for the day. We also bought some microwave pizzas for one night when we couldn't bear the thought of leaving the apartment again to go out for dinner after a loooooong and tiring day of sightseeing. There were too little downsides to the Adina for us. One was that there was no DVD player in the apartment. You could hire one for an extra cost but they were all taken during our stay. Secondly our apartment didn't have a bath (but the shower was huge!). It would have been nice to have a cosy bath to recover a sooth body after walking around Berlin all day. Despite these too little things I 100% recommend the Adina if you are visiting Berlin. We went as a romantic, young couple's holiday but it would be equally suitable for families or groups of friends.
