This place was a little odd, but the food was good enough to rate it solidly above average. The decor is a little ostentatious and grandiose, and the patrons were almost all tourists -- loud Americans and louder British (the table immediately adjacent to us was a little scary, devouring their steaks so voraciously one of them had a ten-minute coughing fit.)
I loved my fish and chips. The fish was light and crispy on the outside, flaky and tender within, and so hot I could only pick at it with my fork at first. The chips were typical UK-style, large and crispy. Both needed salt, which seemed pretty standard for the area. Also to be expected: the salad (which I ordered in place of "mushy peas" -- they may be terrific but I just can't get past the name!) was lackluster, quite a few bruised leaves mixed in with pale and mealy tomatoes and dressing so light I didn't think there was any at first.
Several at our table had burgers and described them as fine, not great. Service was likewise, a little slow and unenthusiastic but not exactly bad. Overall, I would probably seek out another choice if I were back in Warrenpoint, but I wouldn't mind going back here if pressed. read more
