We had walked by this place…read morequite a few times as it's right beside the sea, along a favourite walking spot with a perfect view of the Mourne mountains, Warrenpoint and the peninsula and Carlingford bay, but never ventured in until now. We had been invited to a wedding and this was the reception venue. The venue couldn't physically cater for a big wedding. This one was around 100 guests and it was a tad cramped. The stage is small too. The meal was excellent, fish starter, perfectly cooked tasty meats for main and a scrummy trio of desserts. For the most part Irish restaurants deliver excellent fish and meat. The country is a giant natural larder and the cold Atlantic provides everything from crab and oysters to salmon and turbot, with a mostly soft damp climate with few temperature extremes. It has to be one of the best natural food rearing, growing climates on earth. Where restaurants did disappoint was usually the vegetables which were either cooked until they disintegrated or they were not properly cooked at all. The former was more typical. This place got it right. All the vegetables were perfectly cooked. It's also a fact or at least it's how I find it now that the places that murder great veg by overcooking are diminishing. In terms of rating it's probably a one star, there's no swimming pool, no jacuzzi or steam baths. Just a basic ten room old hotel with oodles of parking. It's not bad enough to need redecorated but it's not at all modern if you get my drift. I wouldn't change it as it's period, characterful and lots of real wood and old comfy chairs. The best thing about it is the friendliness of the staff. Like so many places now, the welcome and the service is genuinely warm and has that beguiling Irish charm. Now TH's we've been once, and liked it, we'll be back to try the al a carte. One real bummer though, the coffee is crap and like the over cooked vegetables of old Ireland it's just not acceptable to serve up this awful powdered crap any more. I've been inside all 3 and oatfield is my…read morefavourite although the loft is back to front with the upstairs having the living room kitchen and downstairs having the bedrooms, it does have the best views of the mountains and across the fields and over the golf course. The beds are really comfy and all the bedrooms have their own ensuite plus an additional bathroom when people come to visit so they don't have to go through the bedrooms. There is lots of car parking spaces and the owners can lend bicycles out as well as golf clubs. There is lots of things to do in the area but it's also a really good place to stay to relax and then take your day trips from a central location when you feel like it.

Our room had twin beds (two travelers) and the linens were beautiful cutwork cotton, ironed, crisp, perfection. Lots of pillows to choose from. Nice size en suite bath with plenty of fluffy towels, and the furnishings in the room were eclectic antiques that were useful (desk, chair, cushioned window-seat) but not overcrowding. Beautiful view of tidal Dundrum Bay from our window, and a lovely coffee service in the room with chocolates, tea and coffee. A glass pitcher of water in the bathroom. So many nice, thoughful touches! Maureen makes a full, hot breakfast to your request, and it often includes homemade breads, fruit compote, and jams. She has a cat who hangs out in the breakfast room and the whole atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. Highly recommend The Carriage House and I can only hope it doesn't become so poplar that next time I visit I won't have to book a year in advance!

It has a big park, a tennis court, a football pitch, a boat or jet ski slipway, and brilliant views of the sea. Whether it is to go swimming, a picnic, or a day with the dog, this caravan site is the place to go. You make friends quickly and it's easy to go up to the town ( five minutes away ) and get the groceries, or a treat for your kids. The caravans are brilliant, just so cosy to live in. The people who own the place are so kind, they do get the job done. The picture I taken below was the caravan site lit up at night, but it is so much more beautiful in the morning. During the summer, it is so warm, and in the winter, you always are comfortable with the blankets and heating. Gas prices are good, definitely the best place to go!

I was fortunate to be able to attend high tea at this magnificent building. Normally, one can rent out the entire building for exclusive use. It has nine unbelievable bedrooms, a breathtaking party room, beautiful sitting room, library, and much, much more. Words can't describe how beautiful this estate is. The gentleman who hosted our tea also stays on sight when guests stay to take care of you. He was fantastic and a wealth of knowledge about the history of the building and everything in it! I don't know the cost, but I know it would be well worth it if you could swing it! I don't think you could find a more enchanting place to stay in Northern Ireland!
