I really wanted to like this place, but there was just one blunder after another. We arrived on a…read moreWednesday night at 7:30 PM. They had one server and she told us that she was the only one working that night and because of that and a shortage in kitchen staff that there was an hour wait for food and that we might want to consider going somewhere else. We elected to stay and put in a drink order. 20 minutes later she came back to take our food order, but no drinks were brought back. We eventually got our drinks and then 40 minutes later she came back and said that they lost our food order and we'd have to re-order if we wanted to eat there. I would've bailed at this point, but my guests agreed to put in their order again, so an hour later we finally received our food. I was not planning on dining at 10 PM. Overall, food was good (I had their meat pie). The place looks and feels like the quintessential English pub. Unfortunately, it was a pretty disastrous dining experience due to a lack of staff.

I had the wild mushroom poached egg toast which was simply outstanding. I also had the tomato basil soup which was very good. My husband had the Cajun chicken on a bun with fries. It was very good. The fries were extra tasty. We had Stoke's Ketchup for the first time and liked that as well. There is seating inside and out. We opted for inside since the front seating is on a busy road. Then we noticed rear seating in a garden and probably would have opted for that, but we had already moved once.

With the refurbishment they have new furniture and fittings and a new classical look. The outside has been improved and they also have new signage. The clientele range from 18 to 80+ with all appreciating the trouble free, female friendly reputation it holds. For added peace of mind there is CCTV cameras. The new extensive main menu has proved very popular. Food can be eaten anywhere in the pub or outside on the patio in the summer. Evening entertainment is well attended and includes weekly karaoke and disco. regular theme nights and live music. With so much on offer here i would say, it is a place to spend one of your precious evenings. You would love the chicken in cream sauce. It is the best

Has an UNSAFE totally weird, essentially inoperable (not a passenger) elevator.) Themgmt reported me as a "no show" to booking.com (so I couldn't leave a report on their website) and charged my credit card under another name (not the name of the hotel) and categorized the charges as "dining", all in an effort to sneak the charge past me. Anybody decent would apologize profusely for the UNSAFE conditions and not attempt to charge me (It was so unsettling and unsafe that I had to leave at 1:30 am and walk half a mile down the road to the Doubletree.) AVOID
