Verbally assaulted by one security and one staff at the entrance…read more When we got first line in the queue, we asked if the security guard had a good night, and he responded by saying "don't look or talk to me". After patiently waiting for 45 minutes at first line in the queue, being quiet as we didn't dare to look or speak to the security guard due to his disrespectful and rude attitude - we finally asked if the two of us could go in as our friends was already inside and waiting for us with drinks. The security guard and one from the staff then gets really, really agressive and starts yelling and cursing at us. The security guard and staff verbally assaulted us whilst we was trying to talk them into sense in a calm and polite way. The entire queue of 15 people ended op leaving due to staff's behaviour and thankfully backed us up. We have never experienced behaviour like this, and would never, ever come back. This has all been video documented.

Let me start by saying the food was 'OK', nothing to shout about but nice. The small portion size was a a bit of a problem. I was left still hungry after their Roast Rump of Lamb, there were no side dishes. The location of the Wharf is really nice. Just by Teddington Loch so you can watch the boats on the Thames. The dining area is floor to celling glass so everyone gets a good view. The service was absolutely abominable. For want of a better word the waiters were 'snooty' and very unobliging. We were a party of five. Myself and three others arrived first. We were asked weather we wanted to sit at the bar or go straight to the table, so we opted to go to the table. The Waiter then proceeded to put the menu's on the table, walk away and never come back. No offer of drinks while we wait, it took me to get up and get a waiter to be served some drinks. When the rest of our party arrived, exactly the same thing happened. After we finally had our drinks we started browsing the menu. The Waiter then appeared again to tell us the kitchen was closing in 15 minutes so we needed to order now! I enquired later as to why you would take a booking for 5 at a time when the kitchen was about to close and the received the response of "most of our patrons order quickly"....... The final nail in the coffin for the evening was the fact that we were offered no choice of desert and then were rudely ushered off the table so they could clear away. We headed down to the bar and an hour later I noticed the same table was still unoccupied. So avoid the Wharf like the plague. In fact, here are three reasons why the Jolly Woodman is a must-stop on your visit to the UK... 1. The staff Most nights our waiter was Oli. He is probably the sweetest kid we've ever met. Very easy to talk too, great recommendations and super accommodating to anything we asked for. On the nights he wasn't working, we genuinely missed him. On the second night we visited, we met the manager, Matt, and he's a truly genuine guy. Matt is the kind of guy who would literally give you the shirt off of his back. You can tell he really loves the restaurant with the stories he tells about the history of it (ask him about the tunnel if you visit!). He gave us a ton of recommendations of places to visit while we were in the UK and they were all spot on. His knowledge of the food and beer is extensive. We looked forward to catching up with him each night that we went in. We also met the head chef, Stuart, on our second night and he's one of a kind. He's also a Michelin star chef, but NBD. This man is passionate about his food, so much so that he brought out samples of what he was working on for us to try and it was all AMAZING. It was a one of a kind experience that you simply wouldn't get here in the states. If you have the chance to visit he Jolly Woodman and try his food - do it. You will not regret it. 2. The atmosphere Look at my pictures. Could this place be any cuter? It's a truly unique location with more history than you can imagine. 3. The food Alright, let's get down to brass tacks. The woodman has HANDS DOWN the best fish and chips I've ever had. The serving is huge, so I recommend fasting before you get there (really). Trust me, it will be worth it. I cannot do it justice writing about it - just go and try it. I also had a cheeseburger and the cheesecake for dessert and they were both spectacular. You cannot go wrong here. They also have a phenomenal beer selection. My recommendation: Sit at the bar, have a chat and a drink with the locals, you won't regret it.
