I had a disappointing lunch with some friends at White Horse. Even if we overlooked the errors in our order, we could not excuse the manager dropping by to scold us for not making a reservation. She slammed the door on her way out, instead of staying to help her staff. The waitress could not split our bill, but also didn't ask of we wanted separate bills. I went in tonight alone and asked to sit at a high top instead of at the bar with my back facing to everything and the lady couldn't have been more disgraced and just started ignoring me. After a bad experience years ago, my husband and I decided to give The White Horse another try. Well, that was unfortunately a mistake... We walked in and saw the sign that said to please wait to be seated. There was 1 server and 1 bartender. It seemed like they were doing all they could to not look in our direction. After about 10 minutes, the lady who was running the trivia night, came over and asked if we'd been helped yet because she noticed we'd been waiting for a while. I told her no, but I'll go talk to someone. I went to the bartender and said, "Hi, is the sign by the door accurate? Or can we just go sit at a table?" She asked if we were there for dinner, I said yes. She rolled her eyes and told me to wait for her (pointing at the server). I said okay and went back to waiting by the door. The server then yelled across the restaurant waving us over. We still wanted to go in with an open mind and took a seat. I ordered the ribeye medium and my husband ordered the brisket burnt ends. While waiting for our food, a friend of mine also happened to be there and invited us to sit with her at her table. My husband told me to head over there and he was going to let the server know where we were moving. He couldn't find her so he just came over with his drink and said I'm sure she'll find us. A little while later, the next thing you know, the serve is behind us yelling, "Oh there's my friends! Thanks for telling me you loved!" Dropped off our plates and left. The entire table was blown away at that comment. Now getting to the food... My steak was SO DRY. Definitely well done, there was no pink at all. The asparagus was skinnier than a pencil, and the mashed potatoes were sour... The only good thing was my side salad. My husband's burnt ends were definitely BURNT ends. They were terrible! So hard and dry and burnt. Couldn't even finish our food. We spend almost $100 for terrible food and even worse service. No more chances for this place. Will not be back. read more

This place, definitely just wasn't worth the money the surf and turf steak and shrimp was OK but the mashed potatoes were cold lumpy and the gravy was nothing more than a pack of store-bought crappy brown gravy. The side salad was OK even though the dressing was kind of watery and the bowl was packed full of lettuce. I've tried eating here numerous times over the past few years and after being disappointed every time, I had decided to not give them any more of my money. However, last night, while trying to find a place to eat in Molalla where pandemic protocols are being practiced, the White Horse was one of only a couple options in town so my friend and I decided to give them another try. We were pleasantly surprised. The service provided by our server, Kalah, was spot on, attentive, pleasant, friendly. I ordered the 2-piece fish and chips (made with cod) and upgraded the regular fries/chips to dirty fries, which are french fries with tons of garlic and Parmesan cheese, and a glass of peach pomegranate hard cider. The fish was perfectly deep-fried, the chips/dirty fries were delicious and very garlicky, the cider nicely chilled and tasty, and with Oregon's current pandemic mandates re: masks and social distancing, the White Horse was notably compliant. I'm happy to have another option for dining out in this little town that includes good food and quick service, along with taking seriously the health of their employees and customers. First time eating at this restaurant in Molalla. Not many places in Molalla are worth the money to eat at. They do have a huge selection of taps and drinks. It was slightly busy when we went in. It looked like they had two workers and a bartender. My only suggestion is more rounds to refill drinks. I got the rib eye dinner with salad mashed potatoes and gravy. The salad had a good variety of items in it, the blue cheese was very good and thick. The rib eye was good perfectly as well as the mashed potatoes and gravy. My girlfriend got the chicken tenders with a salad. Three huge chicken tenders with the same large salad. They also have plenty of TVs to watch games. This is a place to eat in Molalla. read more

I have live in Portland my entire life. I'm spoiled and used to having lots of restaurant choices. My S/O and I moved to Molalla to escape. Being spoiled I was worried about lack of choices. We found the white horse. I love it! The servers/bartenders here are rad. The menu is staple foods but enough variety for most anyone to find something. To top it all off I'm a bit of a beer snob (side effect of working in the beer industry) and their tap menu was more than I expected and have always found something interesting to drink. Let me state again! The staff is rad! Good people and good at their jobs. Sometimes they are super busy but they bust their butts AND find time to remember us despite our infrequent visits. This was our first visit to The White Horse, and overall I would give a "mixed" review, but it was good enough to warrant 4 stars because our food was quite good. Three of the four in our group ordered burgers, and we were all pleased. The patties were 1/2-lb. each, hand-pressed, and cooked to order. I opted for the White House Burger, as it comes with roasted jalapenos, which I'm a sucker for. The heat was excellent, and the burger was very juicy and flavorful -- the best burger I've had in this area. I ordered a salad with my burger, and I found it to be generously sized with a nice mix of fresh greens, but it was clearly rushed in preparation, as all of the grated Parmesan cheese was clumped along one side of the salad bowl. My son ordered a cheeseburger with bacon, and he rates it as one of the better ones in the Molalla area. My daughter got the mini burgers off the kids menu, and she loved them. Both kids ordered the steak fries, and we all thought they were excellent, and the sea salt was a nice touch. Their only complaint was that there were a few too many small burnt chunks mixed in. My wife ordered the South of the Border Mac, and thought it was okay, but that it could have used a little more kick to it (and she doesn't do spicy food very well). She also said that it wasn't as piping hot as she would have liked. She did get a peach hard cider to accompany her meal, and was quite pleased with that. Having read recent Yelp reviews, we knew that there may be some service hiccups, so we were prepared. We were seated promptly, but told it would be a few minutes before someone could take our order -- and indeed we did wait 15 minutes until our server came. Having had plenty of time to peruse the menu, we knew what we wanted -- only to find out they were out of pulled pork, which meant I had to scan the menu again. After taking our orders, our server promptly brought our drinks, and let us know it would be 15 minutes before our food was ready, and she was right on the money with that prediction. Once all of our food had arrived, I made sure to ask for ketchup and refills of our now depleted drinks, as it was clear she wasn't going to offer to bring them without us asking for them. My thoughts the whole night, as we watched the lone server race around trying to keep everyone happy, were basically, "wow, they are really understaffed". At the end of the meal, she thanked us for our patience, and told us that they were short-staffed tonight. But after reading other reviews, it makes me wonder if this is a standard thing. Our server really did a great job considering the circumstances, but I know she could do even better if there was adequate staffing to help her out. I definitely would like to try out a few more menu items, and even maybe a beer or two, so we will definitely be back. They are still in what I would consider to be the "growing pains" stage, so hopefully they will get the service kinks worked out by then. read more

I have tried, really tried to like this place. I have gone three times now and I am out. Tonight, I got out with my wife. We got someone to watch our girls and everything so that we could have a nice evening out. I saw fried chicken on the menu and I asked how it was prepared. They said that they had chicken breasts in buttermilk and then battered in Panko. Sounds great, right? It was not. The chicken was like rubber. It felt like the chicken was boiled and then tossed and fried. So bad. The Mac and cheese was flavorless and the mashed potatoes were as well. We tried, but when you mix poor quality food with poor service, there is anything redeeming left. I wanted to support and like them so much. I don't drink, so maybe the beer is good. I took a large group of 20 there (business)--called ahead the week before to give them a heads up as there aren't very many places in Molalla or neighboring towns that can handle a group this size. They had the tables set up when we got there and even though there was only one server for the entire group, she worked hard to make sure everyone received their food in a timely fashion and had plenty of beverages. The food was very good ,particularly the dish and chips and the burgers. Good vibe for a casual dinner. Came here for a special lunch for Administrative Professionals Day. Large open layout, plenty of televisions, friendly staff, and pretty decent food. I heard they had a rough opening with some of the food being quite lame but they made up for it this time. Everyone was very pleased with their tall Burgers, scrumptious sandwiches, large bowls of soup, and overall good atmosphere. We had decided we would not go here after getting a sandwich so laden with Mayo it was inedible. That was about a year ago right before the pandemic. We decided to try again last night-- bad decision. We frequent Molalla restaurants-- several a week, so decided to give them another chance. The tv screen beer menu is still so small you can't read it unless you walk up to it, which is hard to do as they now have a table right under it. Plus there was a child next to it. So my friend had to basically choose a beer at random. Upon getting it it has close to no flavor-- not sure if it's been sitting this whole Covid closure or what. Wings were good. That's about it. The food took about 1.5 hours to arrive, and when it did plates had clearly been sitting out for 30+ minutes.. The fish tacos were so fishy I couldn't eat them. The tortillas appeared to be either 2 weeks old, or the chef doesn't know you cook soft tortillas on a skillet not in the oven. When I commented to the waitress she looked offended and told me red snapper is supposed to be fishy. The fried shrimp was cold-- and gross. My bf took one bite and has had an upset stomach ever since. Fries came literally as 2 giant piles all stuck together-- a cold mess. Coleslaw appeared to be shiny and crusty-- looked like it was also made a week ago. Guys-- I understand it's Covid and times are tough, but buying new mugs and then serving customers food that has been sitting in the freezer for months is NOT the answer. Also $3 up charge for sweet potato fries without any mention of an up charge ... giving us the couple meals for free was hardly worth being sick w food poisoning for 2 days from your poorly cooked food, not worth it. I wasn't impressed the first time I visited The White Horse, during my lunch break, with my wife and newborn son. I thought I'd give them a 2nd chance. I called in an order, "Blue Cheese, Bacon, Cheese Burger.... and BBQ Wings". I was told the closest thing they have to a Blue Cheese Bacon Cheese Burger is their Mushroom Burger that has blue cheese on it. SO, I asked for the mushrooms to be held off, and add bacon and swiss cheese. I was asked what kind of wings I wanted... again I repeated myself "BBQ please". When I picked up my order 20 minutes later it wasn't ready. I was offered a beer while I wait at 12-noon in the after noon. Really? I finally received my order 10 minutes later, returned to my office and found.... A Mushroom Burger with no Bacon or Cheese and Chicken Wings with tough skin drenched in Ketchup. This place is great! The beer selection is amazing, and the staff is very nice. Plenty of TV's to watch the game or a Fight on. The Menu is amazing and reasonably price. I come in here all the time. Most people give it a bad review just because they had to wait a bit to get served, or the prices seem to be unfair. If these people wanted faster service and cheaper prices they can go to the McDonalds on the other side of town. The bacon on my bacon cheeseburger was delicious. The burger itself tasted off and the texture was different. I'm not a big meat person and the patty was thick. I would have just thought it was me, but hubby thought the taste and feel of the burger was weird. The fries were cold. It took a little while before we were even acknowledged when we first came in. And there was no concern that we didn't eat much of our burgers and fries. Might be expected? We love this bar and grill! This place is casual and comfortable with a rustic country hometown feel. We have never been disappointed with the food and the prices are great. We stop in 1-3 times per month. Prime rib is great. Great sweet potato and regular fries. French dip is a favorite. Ribeye excellent. Impressive side salads. We like good food and I read reviews before going to places. I recommend this bar to everyone as our #1 casual eating out restaurant in the Canby, Molalla, Oregon City, Mt. Angel, Silverton areas. We are generally visiting on week nights and there are always several people dining but we never have to wait for a table or quick service. read more

Waited 1 hour 15 minutes for my food, as there was a miscommunication between the server and kitchen (I overheard the two tearing into each other over it). The server was not in tune with the ongoings, didn't recognize we hadn't gotten our food for the first hour even when customers who arrived after us had already eaten and left, and even after we finally received our food the server never acknowledged a mistake or tardiness to us. No apology. Nothing but "here's your food". The food itself was good (the 3 stars is to be fair because others seemed to be getting okay service and the food was decent), but I don't intend to be back based on poor service. read more
