The Jolly Fisherman has some outdoor seating above the water, and on a cold day you can just admire the coastline out the big windows. In terms of scenery, it can't be beat! You order at the front and then they bring you your food. I hope they have a fire going in winter, because this pub was absolutely freezing on a mild day in September, colder inside than out. My fiancé and I split the Jolly Fish Board: crab Pot, fillet of fresh salmon, kipper pate, smoked salmon, prawns and herring rollmop, side salad and sour dough bread. We also had a crab sandwich to share as well. Everything was fresh as advertised, and though it was my first time trying some of these foods, I was really impressed. The kipper pate especially was so wonderful, and the crab pot too! Wonderful smoky salmon. The only thing I couldn't bring myself to try was the rollmop. All that skin! While the prices seemed quite fair, £8 for the sandwich and £10 for the fish board, the meals aren't filling and we did get hungry again a few hours later. So order a bit more than you think you can eat, maybe! Anyway, the atmosphere is good here and the seafood is wonderful, I'm sure we'll be back the next time we're taking a scenic walk on the coast!

It appears that its popularity centres around the food as almost everyone was dining. Craster is famous for its kippers and the Jolly Fisherman continues that theme with the emphasis firmly on seafood. Crab sandwiches, North Sea prawns, mussels, kipper pate and salmon all starred on the lunchtime menu together with the option of a portion of beef dripping chips. I didn't notice any local beers at the bar but maybe I missed them as I fancied a lager when we visited. I can imagine how busy this place must get on a sunny Sunday in the summertime but I'd still have to pop in anyway if I was in the area. One downside is that it has a very small car park and parking is severely limited in Craster, there is a pay and display car park just outside Craster though or maybe at a push you could park on the small housing estate nearby although I'm not sure whether there are restrictions there. Fortunately we landed lucky on our visit and there was a free space in the pub car park which was a bit of a miracle really. I'll be back! :-)

Not exactly in the middle of nowhere but fairly remote. Found somewhere to pull over and turn around after5 minutes drive. Called to make sure that the kitchen was still open (mid afternoon) and headed back. The staff were young an friendly, service was good and my creamy fish pie and a glass of cider were tasty and satisfying. It was now late afternoon (about 4-4:30) and I had seen a road sign for a castle - so I looked on Google and discovered that we were just minutes from Holy Island: https://www.lindisfarne.org.uk/ Couldn't resist - so off we drove, pretty landscape and beautiful views once we had crossed the busy train track. Then we got the crossing to the island and realized for the first time that access was determined by the tides and the tide was clearly coming in. Stopped for a quick chat with two photographers getting ready to take pics and ascertained that we had better be back in 15 minutes or we could get trapped - so off we went, quick visit of the beautiful island, took a few pics (of course we couldn't stop for long) and crossed back within about 20 minutes - we likely had another 10-15 minutes to be honest before we would have been cut off - but Edinburgh awaited us :) Three thumbs up Definitely visit bot the pub and the island but check tidal times before deciding which to do first! This was presented beautifully and was so tasty. Definitely one of the best vegetarian options I have tried in a while. As for desserts, I would have liked to have seen a lighter, fruit-based option, so decided against a dessert. However, my dining companions all ordered desserts and were suitably impressed. If you are looking for somewhere to have a special meal, luck or evening, I don't think you could go wrong with The Cobbles, Kelso.

Given the reviews I was expecting something lovely rustic and tasty, but sadly what arrived was a little bit bland, with boiled potato and vegetables. Now, there was nothing wrong with it at all, it's something that my mum would make, but I wouldn't rush back for something that definitely equals home cooked food. However, maybe I just got lucky with my mum :) It's not the worst place to visit by a long shot, and the pub area has lots of beer mats to look at while waiting for meals to arrive.

My in-laws suggested we go here for an early dinner out during our recent stay in Kelso, and from the outside my initial thoughts were... meh, Wetherspoons-type food here we go! However when we stepped in to the bar/restaurant I was pleasantly surprised. The interior was warm, clean, and inviting, and the staff were instantly welcoming. The menu appeared fairly standard pub/restaurant fare... burgers, fish and chips, steak... There was a daily specials board with some lovely choices available. I opted for the chicken fajitas off the regular menu, and boy, I wan't disappointed. This dish was carried out of the kitchen sizzling and smoking on a three tiered stand with a hotplate jam-packed with deliciously tender and moist chicken strips with juicy onions peppers, chills, and coriander on the bottom shelf, soft tortillas on the middle, and sour cream and sweet chilli sauce on the top! These may be some of the best fajitas I have ever tasted, living up to the fajitas of my youth (from The Tidy Doffer in Lisburn, Co Antrim). My fellow diners were also impressed with their orders, all the food was freshly cooked, well presented, and super tasty! A great, no frills dining experience, which far surpassed my expectations!

They stock a complete array of local ales and if you look on the ceiling you will find all the different locally brewed brands they have had. The food is great, never had a meal we could complain about, lovely baked goats cheese starter, seafood broth, and of course, all locally caught. Recommended with a great and very brisk walk along the sands with views of Dunstanburgh castle. Fantastic photo opportunities abound here. In fact I hate to give this little place away, but don't worry you don't stand a chance of getting booked in anywhere around here, everyone else has discovered it well before we did.

It is small and compact with a darts board and a jukebox and in some ways is a bit of a relief from the more touristy and cramped Olde Ship Inn and the nondescript hotel feel of the Bamburgh Castle Inn. The cask beer was excellent too, so basically if you're visiting Seahouses and don't want all the hassle of the more food orientated and touristy pubs why not pop in here for a good pint of beer :-)

As a lapsed Geordie its great to get back amongst the locals and my accent soon returns.
