Haystack Rock is spectacular and something you'd see on National Geographic. I couldn't believe…read morehow easily accessible it was from Canon Beach. There are tons of access points to the beach, but the easiest is to park in the parking lot and walk across the street, past the public bathrooms and homes, and you're immediately in front of Haystack Rock. The rock is impressive, jutting out of sea of crashing waves, dotted with greenery. The best part was watching all the pufffins flying round and round. At low tide, you can get pretty close up to bird watch or take photos. The puffins come to nest here in spring, and we saw a tons of them at the end of May. The history is just as interesting. The rock was created by ancient lava flow. People used to climb the rock back in the day and get stranded when high tide came in, requiring many rescues. To prevent this, they dynamited the bottom, creating the monolith shape we see today. The rock is now a protected marine garden and wildlife refuge. It was even featured in The Goonies movie. The beach stretches for miles, so you can also continue on for a nice walk. They were also dog friendly. We saw several remnants of fire pits, so guessing they are ok.

It would have been nice to spend more time in Wheeler shopping. The train seems to move at a snails pace in some parts.

The ride is also not smooth at all and the staff is awful/rude we were on the 21+ moonlight train ride on 07/11 And felt like we were being watched the entire time ended up getting kicked off with literally no way home at midnight thank God, a bartender hosting a karaoke night in Rockaway gave us a ride back to our RV that was in Garibaldi(2+hr walk if we did have to) so definitely be cautious of booking and having a good time (NO CRAZY ACTIVITY WAS TAKEN BEFORE BEING KICKED OFF - "just to loud") even though the music was blaring to the point you literally had to yell just to be heard and they even made an announcement that they were trying to fix the music situation like literally five minutes before they even came up to us. But it just got worse when my husband was just trying to ask like why we were getting threatened to be thrown off the train so your not allow to ask questions Also want to say I only had 3 beers same with my husband so if wasn't like we were even drunk! Oh yeah don't eat the chicken sandwich croissant I was literally peeing out of my ass for days after

We only did the Ecola Point viewpoint which has some short trails from the parking lot. You can see the lighthouse a little bit from some of the views, but probably not as well as grub the lighthouse view trail. Still amazing views tho down into Cannon Beach, haystack rock, etc. If you're going to visit a lot of state parks, I recommend getting the state park pass. Worth the price!
