Rockaway Beach is where she mentioned the pick your crab and eat it restaurant and I saw picnic tables there too. The ticket/seating system is ok although I thought she said to go back to the same seats after the rest stop. My seat was taken so I took the closest seat and the guy across me said the same thing. People were in their seats too. Over all, it was nice to sit and take in the views except for the port-a-pottys that we had to use during the stop. I did see bathrooms nearby but it was gated off so hopefully next time they're working.

3.5 stars! Very unique way to see some scenic features of the coast! The train is there and back only -- not one way. You take the same track and train both ways so the views don't change on either side, and one side is significantly better so sit on the ocean side for sure! It was interesting to hear the history of the vintage locomotive we were on and the views were beautiful, but unless you're a train fan I'm not sure I would recommend! They are a nonprofit organization and it's amazing that they are keeping these historic cars running. The man narrating the ride was very knowledgeable and does offer new narration each way, so it kept the ride interesting. Note, if you're sitting outside it's difficult to hear the narration. We had a 30 min stop in Garabaldi before we got back on to return to Rockaway, and there was not much besides a DQ and some gas stations, but we were able to get back on during the stopover to get seats on the coastal side.

So I just want to start off by saying the scenery isn't all that scenic. It's just the backyard of people's houses and some occasional ocean views. The ride is also not smooth at all and the staff is awful/rude we were on the 21+ moonlight train ride on 07/11 And felt like we were being watched the entire time ended up getting kicked off with literally no way home at midnight thank God, a bartender hosting a karaoke night in Rockaway gave us a ride back to our RV that was in Garibaldi(2+hr walk if we did have to) so definitely be cautious of booking and having a good time (NO CRAZY ACTIVITY WAS TAKEN BEFORE BEING KICKED OFF - "just to loud") even though the music was blaring to the point you literally had to yell just to be heard and they even made an announcement that they were trying to fix the music situation like literally five minutes before they even came up to us. But it just got worse when my husband was just trying to ask like why we were getting threatened to be thrown off the train so your not allow to ask questions Also want to say I only had 3 beers same with my husband so if wasn't like we were even drunk! Oh yeah don't eat the chicken sandwich croissant I was literally peeing out of my ass for days after

Would love to give a 5 star rating but the constant narration took away from the experience. Hubby said all his videos has the narrator talking over it instead of the sounds of the wheels on the tracks, horn blowing etc. Maybe less narration for the people who just want train noises? Apart from that it was a wonderful experience. Beautiful short ride along the coast on a steam train that felt like going back in time.

We had a nice time riding the train. It's less than 2 hours round trip. Nice narration on the way there and back about the history of the train, local area and other historical information about the towns you go through. We sat in the open air car and it was a nice view. Easy on and off even for seniors. Gift shop was small but had a nice chat with the employees. No bathrooms on board but the ride is short and they are available before you board at both stations. Parking was close. Just look for the trains to find it. We had fun!

I grew up going to garibaldi and seeing the train and finally go my the opportunity to ride the oregon coast scenic railroad! Buying tickets online is easy and they ran us $30 per ticket for adults. While we had no problem Getting our tickets it seemed like if you purchase your tickets there the staff weren't very clear about instructions for purchasing tickets. The trip was beautiful and I'm glad we booked the inside cars as it was a little chilly out. They have soda, water and some t shirts available for purchase. Once the train sets off you can sit in any available seat.

We were really excited to do this train ride, hoping we'd see a lot of the coast you're not able to catch on the 101. That's really not the case. For about 20 minutes of the 30 minute one way portion, the sights are the back side of houses that are between the tracks and water. The ride is also pretty rough. Like hard to not take blurry pictures rough. We were in the totally open car which was nice on this sunny day. Maybe the other cars are smoother, don't know. We took our own lunch and stayed on the train at the break to eat. Some got off and played on the playground equipment. This is really a good family outing as kids will appreciate the train and playgrounds at either end. If you're doing this for great shots of the ocean, you'll likely be disappointed.

We had a great time introducing friends and relatives to this part of the coast. The train ride is fun - I love the option of open car, open car with roof, or closed car. And freedom to move around. Great narration by Bruce. We got to see an eagle! Finn shop and hop back on the train.

Short but sweet , lots of cool scenery. Loud and rocky . If you have a bad back be cautious. Great little side trip !

We took their first ever Halloween themed coast ride, and it was marvelous. They served hot apple cider, gave out these cute little treat bags and passed out candy. Everyone dressed up in costume, even the train conductor! 10/10 recommend this to anyone who wants to see the coastline. I would say to maybe take an anti- nausea before hand, the train does rock around a bit.

This was a really experience. It's a slow paced leisure ride along a section of the coast. It's a fun activity to do for a couple of hours. The tour guides are great and the staff were very pleasant.

Okay...I have no idea what the bad reviews are about. First of all...it is antique rail system. So yes, the cars are old. It is not, nor is it meant to be, a bullet train. It is quaint, slower and it basic. I also don't know what these reviewers were looking at, but you can see my pics that include a ton of water shots, both bay and ocean, turtles, an eagle and cranes. Maybe they looked out of the wrong window. For those wondering, this is a non profit trying to preserve and share history. It is not club med. But it's lovely and way UNDERPRICED. The staff and volunteers do their best.

A nice way spend a couple of hours on cloudy day, if you like history and a slow and clattering journey with a guide to tell you all about the very interesting history of the coastline between Rockaway and Garibaldi. Stops for 30 minutes in Garibaldi, but there is zero to see or do there. You might want to hit the Chevron station for snacks and drinks for the return trip to Rockaway. We were told that the Dairy Queen is so slow that you will miss the train for the return trip, even if you get carry out. Picture of our cousins from Chicago who also enjoyed the scenic railway adventure.

Fun train! Not much to do in Garabaldi -- I would recommend doing only a 30 minute round trip. I would do this again.

We took the train with the cow-looking diesel engine from Garibaldi to Rockaway Beach and back, and had a great time.

You can spend plenty of time reading the story boards and watching some lengthy videos of the history of the area, including the growth of the local fishing and lumbering trade. They are quite informative and there are small benches where you can sit while you watch. The second floor is devoted to the story of the discovery of the Columbia River in 1792 by an American captain, Robert Gray. His mention of this discovery was the catalyst that ultimately inspired President Jefferson to send Lewis and Clark off on their now famous expedition, culminating in the discovery of the Columbia River meeting the Pacific Ocean, in 1805. There are fun, interactive displays to keep the kids interested, and there are a lot of well chosen items in the small gift shop that are kid-pleasing and educational, too. I have to add a disclaimer. Many of the artifacts appear to be replicas, but the displays are still fascinating. And if you are unable to do stairs, there is a back entrance to accommodate disabilities. This is a fun thing to do while everyone else is off in Tillamook sampling cheese, cheese, and more cheese while going brain dead.
