3.5 stars! Very unique way to see some scenic features of the coast! The train is there and back only -- not one way. You take the same track and train both ways so the views don't change on either side, and one side is significantly better so sit on the ocean side for sure! It was interesting to hear the history of the vintage locomotive we were on and the views were beautiful, but unless you're a train fan I'm not sure I would recommend! They are a nonprofit organization and it's amazing that they are keeping these historic cars running. The man narrating the ride was very knowledgeable and does offer new narration each way, so it kept the ride interesting. Note, if you're sitting outside it's difficult to hear the narration. We had a 30 min stop in Garabaldi before we got back on to return to Rockaway, and there was not much besides a DQ and some gas stations, but we were able to get back on during the stopover to get seats on the coastal side.

Would love to give a 5 star rating but the constant narration took away from the experience. Hubby said all his videos has the narrator talking over it instead of the sounds of the wheels on the tracks, horn blowing etc. Maybe less narration for the people who just want train noises? Apart from that it was a wonderful experience. Beautiful short ride along the coast on a steam train that felt like going back in time.

We had a nice time riding the train. It's less than 2 hours round trip. Nice narration on the way there and back about the history of the train, local area and other historical information about the towns you go through. We sat in the open air car and it was a nice view. Easy on and off even for seniors. Gift shop was small but had a nice chat with the employees. No bathrooms on board but the ride is short and they are available before you board at both stations. Parking was close. Just look for the trains to find it. We had fun!

I grew up going to garibaldi and seeing the train and finally go my the opportunity to ride the oregon coast scenic railroad! Buying tickets online is easy and they ran us $30 per ticket for adults. While we had no problem Getting our tickets it seemed like if you purchase your tickets there the staff weren't very clear about instructions for purchasing tickets. The trip was beautiful and I'm glad we booked the inside cars as it was a little chilly out. They have soda, water and some t shirts available for purchase. Once the train sets off you can sit in any available seat.

We were really excited to do this train ride, hoping we'd see a lot of the coast you're not able to catch on the 101. That's really not the case. For about 20 minutes of the 30 minute one way portion, the sights are the back side of houses that are between the tracks and water. The ride is also pretty rough. Like hard to not take blurry pictures rough. We were in the totally open car which was nice on this sunny day. Maybe the other cars are smoother, don't know. We took our own lunch and stayed on the train at the break to eat. Some got off and played on the playground equipment. This is really a good family outing as kids will appreciate the train and playgrounds at either end. If you're doing this for great shots of the ocean, you'll likely be disappointed.

Outside the waterside of the train

Short but sweet , lots of cool scenery. Loud and rocky . If you have a bad back be cautious. Great little side trip !

We had a great time introducing friends and relatives to this part of the coast. The train ride is fun - I love the option of open car, open car with roof, or closed car. And freedom to move around. Great narration by Bruce. We got to see an eagle! Finn shop and hop back on the train.

This was a really experience. It's a slow paced leisure ride along a section of the coast. It's a fun activity to do for a couple of hours. The tour guides are great and the staff were very pleasant.

We took their first ever Halloween themed coast ride, and it was marvelous. They served hot apple cider, gave out these cute little treat bags and passed out candy. Everyone dressed up in costume, even the train conductor! 10/10 recommend this to anyone who wants to see the coastline. I would say to maybe take an anti- nausea before hand, the train does rock around a bit.

Okay...I have no idea what the bad reviews are about. First of all...it is antique rail system. So yes, the cars are old. It is not, nor is it meant to be, a bullet train. It is quaint, slower and it basic. I also don't know what these reviewers were looking at, but you can see my pics that include a ton of water shots, both bay and ocean, turtles, an eagle and cranes. Maybe they looked out of the wrong window. For those wondering, this is a non profit trying to preserve and share history. It is not club med. But it's lovely and way UNDERPRICED. The staff and volunteers do their best.

A nice way spend a couple of hours on cloudy day, if you like history and a slow and clattering journey with a guide to tell you all about the very interesting history of the coastline between Rockaway and Garibaldi. Stops for 30 minutes in Garibaldi, but there is zero to see or do there. You might want to hit the Chevron station for snacks and drinks for the return trip to Rockaway. We were told that the Dairy Queen is so slow that you will miss the train for the return trip, even if you get carry out. Picture of our cousins from Chicago who also enjoyed the scenic railway adventure.

This scenic train ride from Rock Away Beach OR was fantastic. Highly recommended. The scenery was awesome.

Rode from Rockaway Beach to Garibaldi and back with my 3-year-old and had a lovely time. There are three cars to pick from: a fully enclosed car, a car with a ceiling but no windows, and a fully open car. You can move about from car to car. The ride is 30 minutes each direction with a 30-minute stop, making for 90 minutes in total. The ride is beautiful. You pass Smith Lake and gorgeous views of the coast. We even saw a couple Bald Eagles. The folks working are passionate about what they do - so kind, welcoming and informative. There is a playground within walking distance of both stops. We didn't spend much time in Garibaldi but Rockaway had a large parking lot right next to the train. There is a lovely and delicious bakery right across the street along with a shop for ice cream, salt water taffy, beach toys, etc. There is also a tasty smoke shop along with other restaurants. And the beach is right there. Plenty to do within walking distance of the Rockaway Beach stop!

I met Jim, a very affable gentlemen who obviously knows his aircraft inside and out - it really shows. His biplane is in mint condition - especially when you consider it was made in 1929! You get to sit in the front cockpit while Jim flies in the seat behind you. He gives you all the safety details, makes sure you're comfortable, tells you how to get great pictures, and then take you up in the air! He'll even take pictures of you while you're in the air and share them with you. Did I mention, it's a blast to ride in the plane? No? Best. Time. Ever. The views are spectacular from the moment you take off. Took my son up with me, and we both loved it. The ocean, the mountains, the river, the city, the sights - they're are all jaw dropping. Jim offers many different flight options, from a basic flight to the more scenic and longer flights. Quite a bargain considering what you get. You do need two people per flight (or be willing to pay double) - it's just the economics of running an antique aircraft. But Jim makes it totally worth it. No better time to be had in Seaside!

I've lived in the Pacific Northwest most of my life and have taken for granted just how accessible whales really are in this region. During peak migration months it's possible to view the whales right from your car as you're driving down Highway 101! From the moment we booked our $55 tickets for a six-person, 90-minute whale watching tour along the coast, everyone at Eco Excursions made us feel welcome. Even if someone lives here sometimes, put things away, dust, vacuum, etc. so the first impression upon boarding isn't one of entering a messy dorm room. 2.
