A very, very tired property that has seen better days. Threadbare carpets kept together by sticky tape, scuffed surfaces, dated '80s decor, similarly dated menu with a very average breakfast and not the best of ingredients (anaemic bacon rashers clearly heated first and then grilled, reconstituted orange juice, you get the picture!). The staff are doing their best to keep it all up and running, but it must be a Sisyphean task in the circumstances and the owners' best option should be to shut the place down and refurbish completely. Shockingly these days, they charge you for WiFi too
The Royal's only redeeming features are the friendly staff and the location, which as central as it can be. For the most part if you want a good room and a more contemporary experience go elsewhere instead. read more
