Steak sandwich, pickled onions, rocket, beets with kiflers potatoes and a mustard aoli....

Driving down to the Mornington peninsula, finding this place was an absolute treasure on our way back from fort Nepean (a must see, check out my other review). Unfortunately, I didn't sample the coffee seeing as it was late in the evening so please share your thoughts. We where starving and the portions where, well simply put, generous. It was delicious and maybe ordering the 'bread, cracker & dips' was a little much but we didn't regret a thing. They have a fun combination selection for their meatballs where you get to pick the ball, sauce and base. We ended up getting the beef with Napoli on mash and although seemingly traditional it was simply great. Mel got the steak sandwich and it too was just what we wanted... A little more refined. The staff where really friendly and the store itself was quaint & beautiful. If your driving down that way make it your stop either for brunch or dinner.

Brunching down the penninsula can be hit and miss with a lack a good yelp reviews as a guide we were forced to be the explorers and wade through the weeds for others who come after. On Saturday morning we headed to mornington to catch up with my sister. It was a beautifully sunny day so sitting outside was high on the priority list. We wondered along main st perusing menus and settled on the winey cow for it's enticing menu and options of outdoor deck and indoor seating not to mention the quirky name. The deck was the perfect place to sit and I am sure the flocks of people coming down for the grand final would have enjoyed it as well as it was the perfect spot for a beer in the sun whilst watching the game. The food here was delicious. We started our meal which a caramel chocolate chip muffin which oozed caramel after being warmed up. My companion ordered the pork and beans which was a delectable combo of mixed beans, chorizo, bacon and pork belly served with potatoe rosti. I opted for the sweet potatoe dukkah which was a potato frittata with mixed vegetable chunks served with poached eggs, haloumi, kale and hollandaise with hazelnut dukkah. This dish was great apart from the frittata probably because I was imagining a much higher proportion of sweet potatoe. We also ordered the blood pudding croquettes which were amazing and made up for the lacklustre frittata (the only reason this isn't getting 5 stars) All in all great spot I would recommend checking out if you're in the area.

It was a Sunday morning in summer and the place was buzzing! We overheard the couple next to us say that they left the place next door because they couldn't cope with the demand, that was far from the issue here! Friendly service - everyone was welcomed with a smile. Food took a bit long to come out but no big deal. When it arrived, presentation was lovely and the taste was even better! Fresh, good quality ingredients cooked with care. We go out for breakfast every month or so and this place is the best so far. $50 for 2 mains, 2 coffees and an OJ - fair enough, we definitely found value in that as it was complimented by lovely service from Kate. Highly recommended although hubby did bring me here thinking I'd fit in perfectly..'the winey cow'...he's currently sleeping on the couch.

Wintry Cow was quite busy when we went, the service suffered because of this. Luckily the food made up for it! Crispy skin Trout with freekah and heirloom tomato salad. Absolutely delicious! A table outside is the way to go, if the weather permits.

Really enjoyed our weekend brunch at this busy cafe! Staff were friendly and great menu. We ordered the brunch stack - delicious! It had so much flavour. Also ordered a superfood sandwich which had grilled chicken, avocado, goji mayo, kale almond pesto and more.. It was quite unique ! We enjoyed both our meals. Ordered a matcha latte - flavour was a bit weak and didn't quite enjoy the honey flavour it had. But overall a nice cafe to visit when around mornington

Nice little Café in our way to Rye recommended by a family from Mornington! Came a little bit late for breakfast but had a lovely honey roasted parsnip soup with Turkish bread. Great presentation and a delicious home-made flavour. Very nice and cosy atmosphere with modern deco. A large variety of wines and other food items for purchase also. A must stop for breakfast !!

Average service. Small menu. Average food. Expensive price. Small noisy atmosphere. Felt overlooked as I wasn't a local.

Since it was closing we didn't get to go inside, and simply ended up sitting outside while waiting for out takeaway coffees. The coffees themselves were all that bad, and I guess that is what counts when it comes to a coffee shop though. It does have a reasonable atmosphere, and seems to fit well in the semi-rural seaside atmosphere that happens to be Mornington. It was a nice place, and it was a shame that we didn't get the opportunity to spend more time here.

Mornington is a cold, desolate place devoid of any kind of pre-octogenarian life. To find a decent coffee in this god forsaken backwater of time is rarer than a finding a virgin with an arts degree. Walk down the main street and be awed at the strange chronological stagnation, the bizarre effects of entropy upon the human body. Due to the large amount of oldies enjoying themselves in this quaint village way down past Franganistan, the coffee trade has been somewhat skewed. Those of you whom have ever worked as a barista will be more than familiar with the baby-boomer-stay-at home-wife-class customer, who rarely ever stays at home. Instead, these listless, pithy females embrace their lack of responsibility once the kids have moved out and spend their time traipsing about cafes and speaking very loudly about private school tuition. Making a coffee for such an individual is rarely as simple as it sounds- it more so involves making several successive coffees as they are venomously returned to you over and over- "It's not *HOT* enough!". Having very little to worry about, and having their feelings abraded away long ago, about the only warmth they can still sense is horribly burnt coffee scalding its way down their leathery throats. The patronage of Mornington's coffee shops consists mainly of the above, and as such it's rather hard to find a coffee served at the right temperature by a capable barista. Coffee Traders, however, gives two fingers and a raspberry to these decrepit oldsters, and serves coffee with a cavalier smile. On offer is a myriad of house and foreign blends, single origin and daily highlights. The menu drily explains the consistent temperature of the coffee they serve and why it is not served any hotter. Coffee traders, it seems, houses the only decent beans in Mornington. The wait can be long, but worth it. Whilst there I tried a Kelaguar Heights ristretto- pleasantly sweet and nutty with an undertone of woody bitterness, very nice. Coffee Traders is a nexus of sanity in an ocean of terrible, awful coffee. House blends start from $10 for 250g beans. Enjoy the comfortable outside seating and admire the vine-strewn face of this characteristic coffee bar in the sun with some friends, just remember to bring a book.

My two friends and I were even given free coffees! Don't mind if I do! They really make conversation with you and care about whether or not you enjoyed your meal. That definitely is a rarity when it comes to businesses nowadays. This place probably has the best customer service I've seen anywhere! Food: They have delicious meals all at reasonable prices. My two friends both ordered Big Breakfasts, which is reported to be delicious. I personally ordered the Eggs Florentine with Smoked Salmon and it was honestly incredible. I even wanted to lick my plate clean. Filling, great value, absolutely delicious, you cannot go wrong. The only negative thing I have to mention is that there is a decently long wait time so don't go in if you're already starving and a bit impatient. The wait time is worth it in my opinion for the delicious and fresh food, but it's still something to be wary of.

We were told to go to Blackbird by a local shop owner and were so glad we took their advice! Blackbird Cafe is off the main drag down a laneway about halfway down Main St. We went for breakfast on a Sunday morning and though it was busyish they were happy to accommodate a table for 6 without a reservation. Breakfast menu had all the usual faves plus a couple of great vego options for us so yay - Vegan Breakfast and Baked Eggs. Our friends had The Big Breakfast, Eggs Florentine and Avocado Smash. Also each coffee comes out with a itty bitty piece of cake on the side - too cute! The Big Breakfast definitely lived up to its name - huge! The hollandaise on the eggs was raved about and my Baked Eggs were AH-mazing. Lesson learnt - listen to locals! Check out Blackbird if you're ever down that way.
