When I asked why they were laughing at my choice in vinyl, they explained that they were being "personable". Unfortunately for them, I speak to people on a daily basis and I have never met anyone as low energy and rude as them. They have a great selection of DVDs, Bluray, CDs, vinyl, and video games. They are our first choice when trading in. We have tried other places but POS gives us good returns for our trade ins. We have tried other places closer to where we live now, but they fall epically short. The best part of Planet of Sound though are the people working there. Such great guys that care about their clients. Every time we go in, they recognize us and remember us. They could tell us things we had purchased in previous visits and ask how we are doing. We are very impressed by their service. This is why we come back time and time again. Definitely check them out if you are in Winnipeg!

I had mentioned during the summer that I have two Chapters locations in Winnipeg that are my…read morefavourites. The first one is at St. Vital Centre. The other one is this one on Empress Street, at Polo Festival. I'd come here on a leisurely Sunday. I'd check out a few books and sit there, reading them before committing to buying at least one of them. I used to frequent this Chapters before a Winnipeg Blue Bombers game. It was easy to park, go inside to look at CDs and books, and head over to the game. The CD and DVD sections are long gone when you walk into the store and look to the right. The same fate happened to the Canad Inn Stadium (formerly Winnipeg Stadium). If you ever need confirmation of buildings in the past that are no longer there and you think I've been there, I can likely provide insight. It seems like I go through this exercise often! While killing some time before my late afternoon flight out of Winnipeg, I returned to this Chapters. There is still lots of parking, except that there are new stores next to Chapters, including a Burger King that I dropped by after this bookstore visit. This Chapters is special, as it's the only one in the city with two floors. Part of the ceiling is made of glass, so you have the natural sunshine that Winnipeg offers year-round (it's the second sunniest city in Canada) beaming into the store. It's cheerful and pleasant. There used to be a Starbucks cafe on the second floor. I rarely frequented it when I was a Winnipegger, other than to grab a snack and chat with a friend now and again. Sadly, the cafe is gone. The washroom is also closed off, which seems to be a theme in this area, including at the Plaza at Polo Park. If you do need a washroom, Burger King is your best bet. The main floor had new book releases. It also had a bunch of gift ideas, from tote bags, to mugs. The kids section was at the back on the same floor. I saw lots of books, games, and plushies. If you are looking for Kobo readers, they are no longer on the main floor. Go up to the second floor and face Empress Street. These readers were on sale. I like these readers, but I tend to read digital books through the Kobo app on my phone. Magazines are still on the second floor. The selection is one of the better ones in the city. There was a lot of Taylor Swift merchandise. You could get her records, books, calendars, and more. I liked seeing a rotary telephone next to all the merchandise. Sadly, it wasn't for sale. This store also had a decent manga section on the second floor. It's on the right when you leave the escalator to get to this floor. It was wonderful returning to this bookstore. I relived old memories and created a few new ones. I'm happy that this store is still around. (494)

After 2 weeks pickup was changed to the Empress store. Six months later I am still waiting for the second book to come in. July is the earliest they now claim. Both are still there, but are under the Indigo name. The one store at Polo Festival in St. James, which used to be steps away from the old Winnipeg Stadium, was one of my favourites. The other was this store in St. Vital Centre. It's an Indigo now. It still has that cozy feel of taking a few books, finding a cozy place to sit down and reading parts of them before deciding whether I wanted to commit to buying them. It also has a Starbucks cafe in the store. Back then, I rarely bought anything there. I can see myself doing it now, especially spending time on my phone and using the free wifi offered in the store. This bookstore is right outside the food court. You technically can grab a drink and food if nothing at Starbucks interests you. I came here to browse. I also wanted to see if I could get a gift and a birthday card for my friend. There was a plushie sale. I didn't get any, but the plushies were cute. This store always features books by Manitobans. One book, mmm... Manitoba, caught my attention. I didn't get it, but it's a book that I'd like to read and possibly buy. It shares stories about the foods that Manitobans eat. I will need to revisit it. I did find a card for my friend. I spent a while finding the perfect card for her. The card selection at Indigo never disappoints. However, some cards can be expensive. I found one going for $19. Yikes! I like the sales items. I saw mugs, reading socks, and more that were all discounted. I got a gift and a birthday card for my friend from this store. I went to pay for it and chatted with a friendly woman at the checkout. I got my Indigo rewards barcode scanned. I then paid for my items with a credit card. All was great. The woman asked if I needed a bag. My items were so small that they fit in my existing bag. I thanked her and left. Although I didn't spend as much time in this store as I used to when I lived in this city, it still felt cozy and familiar. I still love this store. I'm happy that it's still around. (312)
