We went here on our first day. We had been trudging through the downtown trying to find good places to eat and chill, and when we finally found The Forks Market, it was a much needed solace from the both the summer heat and the quiet of downtown. We walked in and we were immediately amazed. This place has so much food variety, as expected from being a food market in Canada. I spied a pizza place, a Sri Lankan food spot, a taco store, and so much more. I could've spent my entire trip eating here as there were so many options. We tried the several spots: - From Habanero Sombrero, we tried three tacos: one shrimp, one fish, and one beef. They were all stellar. - We tried some Thai dumplings from an Asian spot and it was amazing. I've never had peanut flavoured sauce in dumplings before so it was a nice find! - We tried beverages from Fools and Horses. We enjoyed the drinks we got (I got a chai drink and a tea drink on multiple occasions). My boyfriend wasn't a fan of the matcha. The food here is all very affordable and there's a variety of savoury and sweet places if you wanted to get dessert after your meal. The upper floor mainly has shops (the lower floor has a few shops too, such as a candy store and a souvenir shop). The shops on the other hand are a little pricey for me but they do offer tons of goods that feel very Canadian/Winnipeg. There's a sitting place upstairs if you can't find a place to eat downstairs, or if you want to lounge around. I was overall very ecstatic to spend time in this market, so much so that I went again the following day. I would highly recommend this as a stop if you're ever in Winnipeg.

With this restaurant I have often enjoyed their noodles or chicken dishes but this time I wanted to try their 'Plain Cheese Cake' offered both in their in-restaurant menu and their online menu. At first glance the cheesecake looked delicious but as I looked over to the side of the crust there was MOLD. The obvious green mold spots can be seen in the images I have provided. Quite disgusted and disappointed with this situation leading me to most likely not order from this establishment again. Both are still there, but are under the Indigo name. The one store at Polo Festival in St. James, which used to be steps away from the old Winnipeg Stadium, was one of my favourites. The other was this store in St. Vital Centre. It's an Indigo now. It still has that cozy feel of taking a few books, finding a cozy place to sit down and reading parts of them before deciding whether I wanted to commit to buying them. It also has a Starbucks cafe in the store. Back then, I rarely bought anything there. I can see myself doing it now, especially spending time on my phone and using the free wifi offered in the store. This bookstore is right outside the food court. You technically can grab a drink and food if nothing at Starbucks interests you. I came here to browse. I also wanted to see if I could get a gift and a birthday card for my friend. There was a plushie sale. I didn't get any, but the plushies were cute. This store always features books by Manitobans. One book, mmm... Manitoba, caught my attention. I didn't get it, but it's a book that I'd like to read and possibly buy. It shares stories about the foods that Manitobans eat. I will need to revisit it. I did find a card for my friend. I spent a while finding the perfect card for her. The card selection at Indigo never disappoints. However, some cards can be expensive. I found one going for $19. Yikes! I like the sales items. I saw mugs, reading socks, and more that were all discounted. I got a gift and a birthday card for my friend from this store. I went to pay for it and chatted with a friendly woman at the checkout. I got my Indigo rewards barcode scanned. I then paid for my items with a credit card. All was great. The woman asked if I needed a bag. My items were so small that they fit in my existing bag. I thanked her and left. Although I didn't spend as much time in this store as I used to when I lived in this city, it still felt cozy and familiar. I still love this store. I'm happy that it's still around. (312)
